Reminds of samurai jack, wind waker and old disney.

Now I need to go watch this.

Thats more of the UPA style than old Disney. The Prince and the 8 Headed Dragon. Toei Doga's first great work. Came to the states New Years day in 1964. Dont know if they will do a blu-ray not even sure they have the original prints.

well Deen is fine too.

1 decently directed episode from 1 show = studio resurrection!

Ramen doesn't grow on trees.

Rumour on the street is that their employees will be treated to big bowls if Nise meets sales expectations.

Anime catch up time starts now...

Saint Seiya Omega 2

Hmmm. I hope Luna's introduction next week is more exciting. Maybe she'll have some kind of characterisation that doesn't bore me to tears, I don't know.

Slownen will be slownen, I guess. If I never hear "motto motto tsuyoku naru" again in my life I will be happy.

Fujikoike 2

The excellent shot composition certainly helped cover up the lack of animation this time round (aside from the climactic action sequence).

Despite being less "wow" than episode 1 and having something of a cliched plot for Jigen, I liked him much more as a character than I do Lupin so I enjoyed this more overall.

I would have rewritten the ending, though.
I know it's more romantic to have Jigen kill Cicciolina so she could give that dying speech about how much she wanted to die by his hand etc. Wouldn't it have been more interesting if Fujiko had shot her, regardless of how many bullets Jigen had left? I suppose that wouldn't fit with how Jigen and Fujiko's relationship plays out for the franchise, but I think I keep wanting the show to be more about Fujiko whereas she was mostly a plot device in this episode to get us into Jigen's backstory. I think she had ample reason to do so, and if even Jigen couldn't bring himself to shoot Cicciolina that might have been just as tragic.

Nephrite dies for love.
;_;

This episode was all about Naru, and
the culmination of Nephrite's redemption arc.

XvvuP.jpg

for some reason Naru looks like a K-on character here

It's a shame that
pretty much every redemption arc demands the death of the character being redeemed, but it certainly does add an emotional weight that wouldn't be present if they survived. Poor Naru, I wonder how this will effect her in the upcoming episodes. :(

Naru has cute pajamas

Youma wearing latex? Magical stripping of young girls? Is this show really for little girls? I have to start skipping the titles of these episodes as well, Toei just doesn't give a fuck about spoilers. :(

Just a heads up for anybody who was looking to buy the new Bobobo Box Set from S'more Entertainment (the same group that recently picked up Galaxy Express 999), they advertise it as a dub/sub release but there are no subtitles for the episodes. The "subs" are on a separate disc in PDF form.

Still might pick it up myself though. It's $25 for 38 episodes on 4 discs (with part 2 coming in around September). Yes 38 episodes on 4 discs. I'm sure pizzaroll is crying right now :(

You'll be asking that question more strongly later.

The answer, though, is mostly. The manga it's derived from was originally for girls of an older age, the anime is slightly more gender neutral than the manga (according to Takeuchi), and both Sato and Ikuhara weren't interested in being strictly confined in how they went about things. The last issue is even what Ikuhara quit over.

So I came across Ponyo on BD for like 5 bucks. I always found the movie itself rather underwhelming but it's totally worth it for dat water animation alone.

Interesting, I know Ikuhara had quite a bit of free reign with Utena, but I wasn't aware he had so much control over Sailor Moon. Either way, I need to get to S or R or wherever he takes over as series director!

Yeah, despite it's faults, the animation was great!

Hey man they apoplogized for the "misunderstanding".

There was a mis-communication internally and even though at least 10 people proofed the packaging, the fact the packaging incorrectly said 'sub-titled' was missed by everyone, incluiding byTOEI. As best as I understand, the series was only available in Japanese language or dubbed into English, it was never sub-titled. Galaxy Express 999 will only be available in Japense or sub-titlerd as they never did an English language version (according to TOEI)

Sailor moon 09

Jadeite has a plan OMG.
Apparently, if people are rushed, they put out more energy for Queen Beryl to steal.
So the plan is to manipulate time.
Usagi and Ami are hanging out shopping.
They see a clock shop and enter it. the shop lady looks suspicious. Could she be?
NAH. Too obvious.
Watches and clocks are deeply discounted. Must be a going out of business sale.

Usagi sees a cat clock and says it looks like Luna. It looks nothing like Luna.

Usagi is sad because she doesdnt have much money.
She goes home and her MILF surprises her with the cat clock!
Luna says it looks nothing like her. She's right.
She warns Usagi that the clock is suspicious.
Usagi doesn't listen. she's not good at it.
She goes to sleep and the clock begins shining light on Usagi. Naturally only Luna sees whats going on.

the clocks speed up the time.

Usagi ends up being early. Her dad rushes out of the house saying he's late.
Usagi gets to school and a bunch of people are there, but not everybody. Only a select few are in class. They freak out thinking everybody else is late.
Naturally, Ami is starting to figure out that something is very wrong. She talks to Luna who has the clock from before.

holy shit.
Luna gave Ami a 3DS. Actually, its a compact supercomputer.
Some girls have all the fun.

Ami and Luna inspect the clock. Something escapes from it and they realize that its one of Jadeites plans.

Meanwhile AUTOMOTIVE CARNAGE. Everybody doesn't give a fuck, cause they're late!

Usagi and Ami transform into Sailor Senshi.
They enter the youma's false store.

Her time tricks are pretty cool. Sailor moon becomes a superior chibi moon, then returns to normal.
why couldn't that happen to ami?
Usagi is out of energy, and ami gets paralyzed by the Youma.
Tuxedo Mask comes in and saves the day.
Good thing, because I thought they were going to do something different. Scared me for a moment.

With the youma distracted, Mercury does her shabon spray and in the confusion, Sailor moon finishes her off with the tiara.

The store disappears and everything is back to normal.
Usagi is still an idiot.

It's not really easy to appreciate just how much of the anime comes from Sato or Ikuhara without reading the manga, because you just assume that because it's an adaptation all they had to do is make a tweak here and a change there when in fact they are fairly different beasts.

No doubt, I'm planning on reading the manga as well, once I'm finished watching the anime.

I dunno guys, but I think I'd rather it be in Japense.

One Piece 7

Not much to say really, other than that Luffy continues to be the most annoying person in the series. However, for the first time, there's a few glimpses of potential for this to be eventually good.

Yeah, the anime started off rather slow but it hits it's stride in the Arlong arc. Though I've only seen the first ~110 episodes so I can't vouch for the quality of the later episodes.

I know many people probably say it, but it starts off really slow. Like wonzo said, it gets better near Arlong Arc.

Overall it was a decent show and it's one of the few where I found every girl to be interesting. While Sae's voice was painful, I did enjoy
watching her become more socially adept with people around her (non to mention the unintentional kinky "training" she went through with Junichi).

Ayatsuji's arc was pretty damn good.
I absolutely loved the fact that her nice personality was just a front and she could be a total bitch when she wanted to (when she told off those girls spreading rumors about her slacking off before the festival, sogood.gif).

In order of favorite arcs, I would have to go:

1. Ai Nanasaki
2. Kaoru Tanamachi
3. Tsukasa Ayatsuji
4. Rihoko Sakurai
5. Haruka Morishima
6. Sae Nakata

I was always weak for those sports types.

Any other good romance anime out there I should be checking out Anime;GAF?

Mai Ritoru Poni: Yuujou wa Mahou 3-5 - Err this show is watch-able at least so far, and episode 5 had a number of genuinely funny moments! only 21 more episodes to go.
Only 110 episodes?

Yikes.
I've seen like 250+ episodes. That's nothing!

Part of me thinks that the producers are thinking of something different.

Wouldn't be surprised, though the new ED only hints at revealing more of her backstory, at least for now. Interesting ED as it shows how she grew from a cute-as-a-button little girl into a sultry maiden, in spite of the Leiji Matsumoto eyes. What I think they're doing with this series, for the time being, is the writers are essentially describing the usual MCs in detail, even though the premise is usually straightforward and meant to center around an MC that isn't Fujiko. By doing this, they're easing in the old-time Lupin fans with familiar material before going all out with new material regarding Fujiko in particular.
Odd decision, but it makes sense if they're trying to stay afloat and not rush in with anything experimental. I'm foreseeing a lot of character development for Fujiko starting around after ep 4.

43, to be precise. If I like it by then, I'll most likely switch to the manga.

Our taste compatibility has been pretty hit or miss from what I remember of your recent postings, so I'm kind of curious to see how you end up feeling about this. But don't lie to yourself about how you feel about the series. I actually liked the earlier episodes better than the later ones, mostly because the stupid/weird characters aren't around yet.

I know it's hypocritical, but for some reason the fact that I've seen all 200-odd episodes of The X-Files doesn't seem as weird as watching so much One Piece. I guess it's because I don't like One Piece, but there just seems to be something odd about it. Maybe it's because there's no end in sight to One Piece and it's an indefinite commitment? I know I've stopped watching many vaguely serialised TV shows because they go on and on with no real sense of closure and it just gets tiring after a while.

Indefinite commitment kills things like that for me too. Once a long show ends though, interest rises as there's no worries about falling further behind.
