Halo |OT3| Remember Reach?

You said that the game won't be open worldly because one guy left the team. Or it confirmed it for you. Seriously?

I know nothing about Halo 4 outside what's being fed to me, but I supposed :
1/ most senior guy with open world experience leaving before the game is over does not bode well with game being open world...
2/ a lead on halo 4 leaving the game before it has shipped is curious, because it's definitely not how I would build my career. and thus supposed the guy found out halo 4 was not the game that would push him towards his goals or the game did not require his experience that much.

Xbox720/Durango will be marketed at core gamers and casual gamers.

Core Gamers will be marketed to with System wide clan support and Grouping systems with a 1000 friend limit.

Believe

Reach AR looks much better than the Halo 4 AR as well.

But I'll never use it, so who cares? :p

Yeah I don't like the new AR, its too much like Halo 3's and that one was... very toy like.

Glad to hear it. I just bought it yesterday.

Hmm... EOD, yellow and red?

I am so switching to this.

My god, no, 1000 friends would be a scary thing to manage.. 250 seems like a good area, with the possibility of clan support.

Man Hypertrooper, there's a line between being the voice of balance and swearing fealty to 343.
People will comment on the straws in front of them.
People will judge the game when they get to play it, but for now will comment and hypothesise based upon what is in front of them.
So, what did I miss over the past few days? Elite Ops and Arby is what I've found and some Tashi podcast. Anything else?
Faked post.

So I've decided that if the Ghost Recon Future Soldier beta is poopy, then I'll buy a copy of Reach again to hold me over till H4. If GRFS beta is impressive, then I'll just ride Ghost Recon till H4.

Does Halo GAF play together often, and is there room for terrible people? :O

People are starting the with the "previous halo game was better" syndrome already?

What if I was never a fan of 3 or ODST? Does that mean I get a prize? :D I did and still do think Halo:CE > Halo 2 >>> Everything Else

I can agree with others that the feedback in Reach was great, but that's a terribly steep price to pay for the rest of the game turning out the way it did :(

I personally think the Sparkcast is going to re-hash the stuff that Frankie posted here to NeoGAF and the Waypoint forums to try to calm us after the GameInformer article rather than release any new megatons.

That's personally what i'm hoping for in a sense, I'm hoping he clarifies with David basically all of the MP info and how it actually fits in the Halo MP most of us are very conservative about (especially me).

Rainbow Dash skins for Halo 4 CONFIRMED

I was talking with Danger the other day about the inevitablity of weapon skins in Halo 4. Every console shooter with loadouts has starter weapon skins you can unlock. Gears, CoD, BF; now it's Halo's time to join the fray. Gold Battle Rifle? Red Tiger DMR? Ya know it's gonna happen, because it provides a nice bout of customization for players to try and earn, and it doesn't harm any of the actual gameplay outside a visual florish to starter weapons.

Are they going to explain every mechanic already? Seems a little early to be doing that, but GameInformer did reveal them so there's nothing to hide at this point.

I think they'll talk about some of the more controversial abilities - Forerunner Vision, instant respawns, weapons drops - and that's it. Oh, and the BR and Sprint. Stuff that people are okay with.

My solution would be make some playlist specific. Put instant respawns in FFA, BTB and Action Sack where it's casual and fun. Leave it out of ranked, though I don't see that happening.

As for FV, well, I hope it's an addition to the radar of some kind which highlights power weapon spawns more visibly and enemies when they're in range for newer players. Again, I don't see it being that simple. The 'situational awareness' comment Frank made makes me think it'll be an overlay or something.

They should have done this in Reach instead of armor abilities.

That would be very disappointing, they made us believe back then when the GI bombshells dropped that the podcast would explain and give proper context to all the stuff people were upset with.

Well all know its coming.

What's going to be Halo 4's "thing"

I'm bored. Let's see how terrible everyone thinks this is; Fully Customizable Spartans.

Weapons:
Players will have 3 customizable weapon sets; Open, Regular and Heavy. Open can use any weapon from the sandbox, Regular can only use weapons from a small, balanced pool and Heavy has lots of power weapons available. These sets are saved to your character, and can be edited at any time.

In Matchmaking, each gametype has 1 of 4 different weapon descriptions; Regular, Open, Heavy or Special. So if you're playing "Slayer with Heavy Weapons", then everyone will use their Heavy weapon setup. Special, of course, is game-specific (for example, Team Rockets or SWAT). In this way, you always know what type of wepaons your enemy is going to be using, and can vote matches with specific sets down if you dislike them.

Melee Weapon
Each player can select from a large pool of melee weapons. These really only serve to change the assassination animation. These weapons do appear on the player's spartan, so it is also somewhat of a cosmetic choice. Examples include a Combat Knife, Kukri, Energy Claws, Energy Sword, Katana, Taser, Brass Knuckles, Entrenching Tool, etc.

Armor Ability
Players assign their preferred Armor Abilities to each weapon set, but not all gametypes will utilize them. Each voting option lists what weapon set will be used, as well as whether AAs are on or off.

Modifications
You can only have 3 modifications equipped at once; two Major and one Minor modification. These are visible on the player's Spartan at all times; the Major mods appear on the Spartan's hip, in the "Utility" slot, while the minor modification appears on the "Wrist" slot.

Modifications subtly change the game in a multitude of ways. For example, you can pick the Trauma Kit mod, which "decreases downtime due to injuries, reducing respawn time". While stacking two of these could allow for near-instant respawns, it would come at the cost of all the other cool modifications which might serve you better.

Mods are unlocked with Spartan Points and some are set behind ranks, so when you first start playing people will have only the basic set, but as you advance you'll start running into more powerful mods. Some examples;

Major (worn on hips):
- Ammo Dispenser: Decreases reload time of all weapons.
- Grenade Case: Increases the maximum number of grenades you can carry by one per type.
- Shield Battery: Slightly increases your shield recharge rate.
- Leg Augmentation: Slightly increases your sprint energy recharge rate
- Arm Augmentation: Slightly increases the speed of your melee attack and the brief delay that follows.
- AA/Stealth: Support battery for Stealth Generator, increases the effects of the Active Camo AA and pickup by x seconds.
- Thruster Augmentation: Increases run and jump high slightly.
- Load/Overshield: When you respawn, you have x seconds of overshield.
- Load/Camo: When you respawn, you have x seconds of active camouflage.
- Load/Boost: When you respawn, your movement speed is slightly increased for x seconds.
- Medkit: When standing still, you slowly regenerate health.

Minor (Worn on wrist:)
- UGPS: Increases radar range by x yards.
- Tacpad: Displays the timers on all weapon drops in radar range.
- Datapad: Displays the modification setup of the last hostile targeted.
- Assault Case: Supplementary bandoleer, increases maximum clip capacity for all assault weapons by 1.
- Sniper Case: Supplementary bandoleer, increases maximum clip capacity for all Precision weapons by 1.
- PK1 "Last Laugh" Device: When killed, you explode in a burst of plasma, injuring anyone nearby.

Visuals
As usual, players will be able to pick from a wide variety of helmets, shoulders, chests, kneepads and visor colors. New additions include leg and boot options. Players will also be able to apply a variety of paint styles to their Spartans, from camouflage to tiger stripes to a variety of patterns and shapes.

aaaaaand... I'm done.

Um, no.

I really don't want to see anything that changes the base player traits. Shield, health and weapon/melee damage has to be the same for everyone. I wouldn't mind slight differences in other things like movement speed or jump height but I'd hate it when there suddenly is a guy whom I have to shoot 5 times to kill him instead of 4.

Edit: Thank god!

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
would be cool if different helmets affect the overlay of the visor from 1st person

I want to see skulls or their equivalents as options in campaign matchmaking this time around.

I don't know if Reach just doesn't support it or what, but it'd be neat.

/facepalm

I had it as Kukri and then second-guessed myself. Listed the military Unit and not the actual knife.

RIP Halo.

We already know players are going to have Sprint as a default ability, that players are going to have customized loadouts, and that AAs aren't removed from the game. We've also been told that there will be unlockable modifications in the Armory that affect gameplay. I think my little blurb there isn't too radical based on what we know.

And now we know that's not going to happen. So it's going to be less intrusive on gameplay than what's in the post I threw together, which is a good thing.

Hey, there's an idea. Make ideas so offensively bad that 343 has to come in and comment how wrong we are, giving us valuable halo infos in the process. Genius.
