This is what happens when you watch shows designed for young children.
Hey, I dropped the first show years back after a couple episodes and I wanted to give it another chance like I did for Heartcatch and see if it would work out. To some extent, it did... kinda... sorta...

...but not for the second show.

I'm not saying all kids' shows are bad obviously, but if you watch enough of them, you're going to be hit with that sooner or later.

That reminds me.

Futari wa Precure 1-49

Much like Heartcatch Precure, I started out hating this series then it gradually got better on me. Annoying mascots pushed to the background and the main characters, Nagisa and Honoka, were brought more to the forefront and used better. Monsters were all kinda dumb, but the generals were good enough and episodic stories provided enough Nagisa/Honoka to be amusing.

This series is really two stories under the same title, and the start of the second story plunged the show into hateful territory pretty hard. Once again, though, it worked its way back up and managed to continue providing the same fare that made the show watchable even if it wasn't anywhere near enthralling.

One thing that became clear to me, though, was that the success of this franchise is largely due to the extensive and pervasive product placement throughout the show. This facet goes above and beyond the usual method of simply selling the brand alone and then making products that can be attached to it. Anything the main duo use is in the form of something that can be sold. Mascot plush toys. Mascot flip phone replicas. Cosplay dresses. Power up bracelets. Piece to hold magic gems. It goes on and on. One episode even revolved around a precure brand love meter. In stores now, kids. Tell your parents.

The early stages of the 2nd half were probably the worst. They introduce that 3rd mascot, who takes up a ton of screen time, and also do a number of mascot centric episodes which are hard to care about when they are not real characters.

So what Precure are you watching next?

Yeah Touko doesn't get any less annoying until very far into the series. If you can watch until then, you will officially become a Marimite-bro. The rosary ceremony will have to come after that though.

I'll hang in there. I know I'll be able to complete the 3rd season (the OVAs) tomorrow, maybe if I'm lucky I'll be able to cram the 4th season in there as well. I'll want my custom tag to be Rosa Foetida when I'm done with this (generous enough to let Firehawk have Gigantea). lmao

That works out great since I get to keep Chinensis (Sachiko-sama) to myself.

We don't get tags in the Marimite-broship however. Considering, its just me and firehawk :lol

This is starting to get pretty damn boring.
They're gonna pull something stupid and overly melodramatic like Shizume having some kind of terminal illness aren't they?

You're making me wanting to back out now... :(

Oh yeah it does! :lol

We just need to convert more people to warrant tags.

Mirai Nikki 25-26 (The End
... OR IS IT???
)

What the fuck just happened? So many plot elements in the last few episodes lacked impact since they seemed to just be making them up on the spot.

Also Yukkii is apparently the worst God ever. Like 10,000 years later everything in his timeline is just gone. It's just him moping over Yuno,in the void, growing out his hair, while Murmur rereads manga. He and Yuno should have just shacked up in World 3 off the grid, like Minene wound up doing, since the whole point of one of them winning was saving their world.

Does the manga at all explain why
Deus can skip the Survival Game and keep on living in World 3?

Yes it does, TV was either cut abruptly and they'll explain in home release or thats it. In the manga, The murmur of the first and third world, and Yuno of the third world end up creating a passageway into the third world. (the cracking that we see at the end in TV) and thanks to the first world murmor, third world Yuno has all the memories of first world Yuno. To answer your question though, Deus ends up not doing a diary game in the third world and makes both Yuki/Yuno his heirs.

So yeeeah, TV viewers got a little fucked there.

Not just you! I was there for Marimite day one, and have all 4 box sets. Even have my name in the credits for the first two domestic releases! I also have all 3 phone straps representing each family.

I guess, but I still don't see how resistance to photoshop filters is relevant in any way. If you want to argue a show looks bad, use the actual imagery of the show. Bringing in outside example which have no connection with what you are talking about just makes your argument appear weak.

I used both to compare it to the show

VYuDj.jpg

This picture uses sharp outlines and soft brushes to shade. Apollon does the same thing.

The effect of using soft brushes for both highlights and shading makes it look like a bevel, because that is basically what Photoshop bevel is, a soft brush for highlights and shadows. In my comparison there is an extra highlight in some places... because the show itself spared dramatic highlights. However, some parts of the show look like a beveled image, like the kid's hair.

I was a little unfair to the artist of the Yugioh "balloon" fanart. Their work isn't as quite as wrong as Apollon's shading. The Yugioh artist kept the contrast of the soft shading low, so it doesnt bring out the grainy sanded effect. Because the contrast is high in apollon, it makes the sandy mud look more apparent. I turned up the contrast in the image to show you what I mean.

zVedo.jpg

Again, the Yugioh painting is just an example of this technique.

Here is Apollon, one slide (the top) with the original contrast, and one (the bottom) with a more light and less contrast. The bottom one looks better because the soft brush is less obtrusive, and doesn't make the characters look like sandy mud.

This girl has a face like a manatee. Creeps me out, especially when all the old man faces are so rich with detail. Info dump episode (mostly of stuff I already assumed/knew) with a fight mixed in. Didn't really do a lot for me and I don't really know if I'll stick to this show. This show is just hitting the story beats way too fast and it's kind of just out of control at this point. Even the sloggy info dump couldn't really reset the emotional bearings.

That's Konoha?! Man, talk about fucking the beautiful original art.

There's nothing inherently wrong with soft brushes. The Yugioh pictures are completely irrelevant because the artist who drew it has nothing to do with Apollon. It's fine not to like how the show looks, but don't bring up some random crappy fanart from a different show and try to use that as some kind of definitive proof that soft shading should never be used.

Need more Asumin comedy fix.
Are both seasons of Working!! recommended or should I just skip straight to the second one?

You'll either love or hate the first season, and whichever it is, the 2nd season is a vast improvement on it.

Maybe I would enjoy Nyarlolithep if it were voiced by Kugimiya instead of Kana Asumi. :/

Why would you wish that!?

Have we even heard of a hyper-active genki Kugiyama?

It's not like Kugimiya could make the show any worse.

Actually it would probably be better since the pathetic male lead would have his physical abuse returned to him.

As I said in my response to you some time back, it wasn't confusing at all. You seem to have missed the on-screen text label saying when the main timeskip occurred.

Sorry, I must have missed your response back then since I don't remember this. Hmm, I must have been not looking when the timeskip label appeared or something.

Kids on the Slope;;Kids on the Dope -snip-

I can see where you're coming from. The soft shading and the shadows used in Apollon are certainly different from other shows. I'd argue it gives more personality and is especially fitting with Kaoru's social anxiety. The more prominent shadows gives a certain dreary mood when combined with the grey, pallid atmosphere of the school, while in well-lit places like the studio, it subconsciously focuses the eyes to the paler/lighter parts of the body, which are usually the most important action is happening. It's personally slightly jarring at first but grew to be aesthetically pleasing, although that may be due to how novel the shadows seem.

I don't think you came off as strong but the examples you choose are more than a little inflammatory.

Speaking of coming off as strong, did I sound belligerent when I was expressing my dislike for Tsuritama's colour choice and KoikeLupin's shadowing? Sorry if I came off that way.

Unsurprisingly, DeviantArt delivers. (Not Safe For Situations In Which Clothed Cheesecake Furry Pics Are Inappropriate)

That's true. Its nice to see a protagonist with a backbone sometimes. One who won't just take threats and stuff but actively threatens to STAB YO ASS WITH A FORK if necessary.

She's not Cthulhu or Nyarlathotep or anything. She's just a dumb alien lying and defaming a dead author. When the Elder Gods come, she will be eaten last.

I'd hate to break it to ya but... the Elder Gods sort of ARE aliens. Trans-dimensional beings I believe is the specific, but yeah, that's Word of God stuff right there...

The URUSAI bit only ever happens in Shakugan no Shana and that franchise is deader than Madhouse.

Also happens in Hayate.

Phi Brain S2 2

That shutter/maze puzzle seems frustrating as hell. All that running back and forth even when you know what route to take. Seems like a pain in the ass.

Really glad this isn't a reset in terms of puzzle scale. I mean both the maze and the mirror puzzles have been along the lines of something you'd see in the later parts of season 1. Hopefully that means they'll keep on escalating.
