Halo |OT3| Remember Reach?

Why would they? They're big boys now, they can handle the franchise now without running back to Bungie for every little nostalgic reason.

It's not unheard of. EA went and had Frank Klepacki come in to do the Hell March for Red Alert 3 even though he had moved on with the other former Westwood guys to Petroglyph.

The other VAs aren't Bungie employees in the middle of their Next Big Thing (tm). It's also easier to replicate high pitched alien squeaks, hoots, whistles and one liners than the identifiable voice overs that comprise the main characters.

I'd disagree. Staten's voice is pretty identifiable. I can definitely tell which grunts are him in Halo 3, and the Super is basically Staten's normal voice with a bit of a filter.

Maybe because he did a good job on it?

They have the rest of the voice actors.. why not him too? It's not as if they've asking him to write them a script.

No wise-cracking grunts without IWHBYD skull on please. Keep grunts scary. (Or, as scary as they can be).

Yup, I suspect they will sound like they did in Reach with maybe the occasional "demon!". I would love if the IWHWYD skull made them speak in english like the older Halo games, I was hoping they would do that in Reach.

Could Warhouse be any more grey? Seriously

Btw, I like how you can color the rubber/fiber part of the armor. Hope they let you use whatever color for the visor that you want instead of selecting from a small set.

I want a red visor to go along with my red spartan.

Btw, looks like you can customize the weapons too? The BR up there looks copper.

Grunts are no more funny.
Also I would expect those religious covies to shit on the human language and speak native alien.

You would if you had to stay with a whole platoon inside a ship for many long months.

Well, the MJOLNIR armor/Cortana translates all the Covenant. That was the technical reason everyone spoke English in Halo 2 and Halo 3.

Cortana is insane!
maybe she'll translate it in French, or make erotic verses out their gibberish alien speaks.

Got my magazine and it has some new info about Halo for on the modifications:
The guy who wrote the article said he had a modification which allowed him to hold more grenades. He also talks about a covenant assault rifle (maybe the assault carbine?) that shoots blue ''balls''.

That's about the only new thing in the magazine plus that grunt picture that was posted already.

Also, for the first mission
Jackels will appear during the mission and they have a more fearsome lizard like loom

I really hope grenades aren't as powerful as in Reach otherwise allowing someone to hold more grenades will just be overkill. If they do however, turn the grenade damage down it may work I guess.
If modifications work like that another possible modification could be longer sprint, which I wouldn't mind.

The new renders of the grunts and elites look pretty sick, liking the new savage look of the "covenant."

My guess on less armour;

Halo 3 the covenant were at war, now they are in true / peace / skirmishes there isn't the budget / need for full body armour. This is more their casual look if you know what I mean. Agree that the grunt looks wierd though. May just be the head on profile makes it look double weird, need to see side on.

they are probably part of the glasslands elite's factions. maybe we'll even see some jackles with ARs

Yeah, someone hit on it in the Gaming Side thread:
The skin on the Grunts & Elites, it really reminds me of the Locust.

said that over there, those grunts look straight off Gears, kind of mini-Brumaks.

there is an artwork which looks like the Chief is about to encounter a group of shield wielding Jackals on Requiem.

Love the new elite and grunt looks, hopefully the grunts wont be too 'humorous'... or at least only with the iwhbyd skull on ;)

On another note, I really hope grenades aren't as powerful as they are in Reach.

Modification to increase the amount of grenades you can hold? If they are the same strength as in Reach, that would be quite hard to stomach. But I have a feeling nades were toned down a lot in order to accomodate this modification. If that is the case, then that's awesome especially if other modifications may have other advantages.

One thing I do worry about though is "knowing your enemy". How do we know which modification the opponent has really?

The flat soles on the boots do crack me up. When you jog you run heel to toe, when you sprint you run on your toes. running completely flat footed is impossible.

I refuse to accept all dromaeosaurs had feathers. I just don't like feathered raptors. They look ridiculous. I'd be alive when they ate me... and laughing.

Kind of a "tough shit, deal with it" kinda thing.

Not really fond of the Covenant designs- I really wish they'd pick a consistent design for the Elites (meaning the actual Elites, not the armor), and I'm just not all that thrilled with the aesthetic anyway.

Dromeaosaurs were feathered. Accept it.

Also, I do bet the Jackals looks like scary vicious cracked out dinosaur birds. I cannot wait. And, if Brutes appear they may finally look as ferocious as they should...yum.

Did Famitsu or one of the other sites talk about mods, or are you just guessing? As far as I know there are no details on them other than they exist, but I could see them working in an extra grenade/ammo fashion.

I should have quoted but it's based on Tha Robbertster's quoted post above by Munish23. A pretty huge thing about modifications and holding more nades if it's true.

First thing I thought of when seeing the new Grunt design was, "That looks like a mini Brumak from Gears." Glad I'm not the only one.

That said, I like the new designs for the Elites and Grunts. They're fresh, yet familiar.

In relation to gears, this...

Reminds me of theron guards.

gow21.jpg

The Elite's hands now remind me of Jackal hands in color/texture, and they kind of have jackal-y skin. But maybe i'm just misremembering how Jackals look.

From a distance, the 4 elite almost looks like a guy wearing an Elite suit.

quick and crude:

It has grown on me. A lot. But I still like the old hands and feet a ton more.

Oh shit, I missed this. What magazine was it, OXM UK? So only new pic is the Grunt? Hm, not sure about the Jackals description, but I can't wait to see!

I always liked grunts for being cute, but incompetent little monsters. They were brave little lads with a lot of heart, back then. The new grunts are much more intimidating and creepy. It will probably fit well within the new game, though. Not really complaining, but I miss the mask over the mouth.

The fuck is up with their skin?
They adaptioned

Thanks for that Demoncarnotaur. Yeah. Do not want.
It just reminds of the quality and thought process behind the bloody Ring change in Halo Anniversary.
I'm going to assume these grunts are just a really really scrappy bunch. That the traditional grunts still exist.

I just... do these grunts have an extra toe now? Or has the toe magically moved from the back to the front of the foot?

The universe is informed and built by both the facts AND the visuals.
I do.... hence the post....
Seemed like a dig :p

Meh, don't have to. The current practice of feathering them all up is an educated guess on a few finds. We don't definitively know if they all had feathers (especially not the large ones, where we have comparatively little fossil evidence.) :)

I agree. Overall I really haven't liked the changes in each iteration, mostly because they've taken the increased graphic fidelity and just made them more generic, I think. I miss the Halo 2 and 3 Elites because they were detailed without heading into the "angry Predator" look.

I've always liked them as sort of Sharklike and sleek--definitely alien, but not exactly 'ugly'. Their scariness and brutality should come from their actions, not be defined by their looks.

I also miss the cuter Grunts.

In the context of how both species have looked in previous titles, there is a significant difference here and a significant similarity to the Locust.

I wouldn't really call the difference significant, the grunts are still quite clearly recognisable as grunts and the elites are clearly recognisable as elites.

If you're going to single out a mask-less grunt and a maroon-armoured elite then yeah, it is quite easy to draw visual comparisons to Gears. Compare a full-face masked Grunt and a blue-armoured elite? The only thing simmillar in that case is their skin tone.

Singling out is commenting on the pictures in front of me?
The claw hands are very different to the traditional Elites.

Woke up and saw whatever the fuck 343 is trying to pass off as a grunt. All I have to say is that is just pathetically awful. Just awful awful awful.
