Fans beg for pc port. PC port announced. Fans displeased.

That's why we never get ports.
Making a PC port isn't a favor to us, they wouldn't do it if they didn't see a profit in it. All we ask in exchange for our money is that they don't make an insulting port that comes forced with save-deleting malware installations.

Bamco/FROM have been terrible at conveying what they're gonna do, with the painfully idiotic Facebook wall, the misty possibility of new content for consoles, the rough translation misunderstandings, etc. The fact that people ended up unsure if they could change resolutions in a 2012 3D PC game is proof that Bamco/FROM have handled this like amateurs.

Not only PC gamers are "displeased", console gamers are in rage over the new content not being available to them. Bamco/FROM just fucked it up, and all the flak they get is well deserved.

If it was this or no play, I'd be happy.

Except the fixed resolution was debunked for Dark Souls I think. It was about texture res.
You'd be happy? I guess some people have no standards. I don't think there will be any resolution lock or framerate cap, but if they were true I'd be furious.

Has there been a AAA game console port to PC with locked framerates and locked resolution before? If yes, I haven't played/noticed it. :-/

L.A. Noire locked to 30. I think Bulletstorm at first locked to 62. I think there are a few others. The physics engine in BioShock and BioShock 2 lock to 30fps on the PC, so if the rest of the game is running at 60 or above, ragdolls and falling objects show visibly fewer frames of animation.

I haven't heard of a locked resolution for a 3D game. Maybe a lack of supported resolutions (The Witcher 2 didn't support 16:10 at first) and some older games that don't natively support widescreen.

I've been looking forward to playing this, but now with this minimal keyboard stuff and a locked 30 fps I'm less hyped, if this is the way they're going with it I don't see why they thought they should bring the game to the PC.

If they want to do DLC, they need to hurry up. This stuff should've landed next month. Pushing it to August (or later) is dicey. I'm a huge fan, and even I'm not totally crazy about buying DLC for a then year old game.

Why not? Are you about to sell your game?

Because I'm already running out of things to do? Because I have 300-400 hours already in? Because the online isn't exactly as populated as it was? And in 4-5 months it'll be even less so? Because that time of the year is already packed with new releases?

Hmm. Nah time is totally not a factor on DLC at all.

Lol first people complain that DLC is too soon then it's too late. Expansion packs used to come out about a year after the game if I'm not mistaken.

If you already put so much time into this game and you're running out of things to do, can't you put the game aside, play something else and pick it up again, when the DLC, with new things to do, comes out later this year?

Abandoning the fanbase that made the game popular is not the best way for them to push Dark Souls 2.

I highly doubt they're going to put work into a PC port, knowing that most of the people that petitioned played the console version...then give the console version the exact same stuff at the same time. They're probably gonna go for the PC first so that they can get as many people as they can buying it for the additional stuff, then release the console stuff as DLC or a GOTY.

I could be wrong but it seems like it's gonna be a timed exclusivity thing, especially with there already being interviews about the PC version and no current mention of DLC.

God this thread is such a clusterfuck. Can't we wait till there's a hands-on preview of it before we claim it's a shit port. The interviews in OP's post makes it seem as if From Software doesn't know what they are talking about. I'm sure most of the problems are just misunderstandings. This game can't seriously have locked 720p.

Now that I see more images, particularly those last two. It looks like the area in the lagoon near the waterfall in Darkroot Basin. Particularly the portion off in the back where you fought the one crystal golem that is off by itself.

Trouble is most of those hands-on previews will be from console journalists for whom 720p is an unusually high resolution. They won't know what to do with themselves.

Yes we are entitled to a good port.

It's a good port, or no port at all.

I wouldn't be super happy about it, but I'd rather have a bad port than no port. Not that we actually know it's a bad port yet.

Then just wait for a hands-on from someone who knows what they're talking about.

That however should depend on WHY it's a bad port. If the game runs fine but not as nice as you'd like... ok. But if it's got loads of bugs and absolutely weird shit like Saint's Row 2 being nearly incapable of running at its intended speed then, no, it is not an acceptable port.

And, yeah, I've said it before but this ISN'T a case for using entitled in a derogatory fashion. People really are entitled to at least a port roughly on part with most modern console ports, something that may have no added graphical frills but will run much nicer on a good system. Though given the worst case scenario seems to be avoided (locked resolution) at this point I'm mostly concerned about whether or not it avoids being seriously buggy or having strange issues. Hopefully the worst we need to seriously worry about is a locked FPS and perhaps milder GFWL issues.

I think both sides of the argument hold water.
On the one hand PC gamers complaints are valid and, for the most part, objective. On the other hand these unique once-in-a-gen masterpieces really should be played and appreciated by as many people as possible and I'm certainly of the mind that supporting From can only bring good things in the future for everybody (I bought the japanese DaS and both PS3 and Xbox US copies). But buying shitty ports sends the wrong message and goes against most people's principles, so I've come to a conclusion:

If, come august 24th, DaS PC seems to be a decent and competent effort into bringing the experience to PC, I'll buy it. If it turns out to be the shit-job it appears to be headed in right now, I will of course not buy it but I'll make out a check for, say, $100 to FromSoftware,Inc and mail it to their Shibuya headquarters along with a 2 sentence explanation of how I want to support them but do not agree to Namco's management-led incompetent approach to multiplatform publishing.

This will work for me, I'm not advocating this for anybody else.

As for the game, I can't get enough and the new content will be jolly enjoyed (either on PC or console DLC later on).

Most PS360 games are 720p. In fact, the last time i checked (last year) there were less than 30 sub-HD games on PS360.

PC gamers need to stop lying to make themselves feel better.

Console games are usually 720P native, while many PC gamers have been playing at 1024x768 since the late 90's. Hm. Also, Dark Souls is sub-HD, if only just barely. (1024x720 with a horizontal stretch.)

I don't think anyone with a gaming PC even cares whether or not a console game is 720 or less. We get every game at the highest resolutions with the best frame rates regardless but you don't see me (maybe others shout it out loud) toot that horn. It is what it is.

That's because there's nothing to toot. That's standard for a PC game.

Resolutions vary so much on consoles that really high res games especially 1080p are worth losing your shit over.

lol at this guys question at about 3:12: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFhLLLQz_zw&feature=youtu.be

Tempered for PC players? Don't make me laugh. Make it harder, bring the pain!
Seriously. I'm not even a hardcore PC gamer, and this guy is like the Brian Butterfield of videogame journalism.

"So, ah, I hear this game was, ah, reasonably successful on the Microsoft Thirty-six-Oh, ah, entertainment system... what do you think is in store for the so-called, ah, politically correct computer game players?"

I don't think I've ever used quick save.

Me either, but I grew up on console games first and foremost. That and I dont really see the fun of quickloading right after screwing up. Dealing with the consequences makes things that much more fun when you overcome them.
