Halo |OT3| Remember Reach?

Ultimately the only thing that truly scares me in the game is perks. There are many changes that I am willing to accept(instant respawn in Team slayer) and some that I love(movement acceleration is higher and base movement speed is higher) but perks are the only thing that haven't resonated with me. I think 343i just really needs to show us the perks in action in first person in some vidoc/trailer. That would alleviate most of the fears(and increase them for some but that's always expected)

I'm worried about what the boundry conditions will be on them. I have not read the Game Informer article, just summary lists; I think they gave examples like, spawn with an extra grenade slot, or an extra grenade, or an extra ammo clip. That's fine. I think (might be mistaken) they also mentioned extra health as one - which is very, very bad. It's critical to know someone is a four or five-shot kill with a given weapon, and not have variability from player to player.

It's an entire space I'm very nervous about the game going to, but much depends on where they draw the line. As always, I'll need details to judge it fully. (There I go again, cowed into holding back.)

Halo 4 has a grey map already.

I'm not going to go out a denounce a game I haven't played yet, that's stupid. That's why a lot of people won't be negative.

You're right. Everyone should be cynical dicks. ;)

I'm not saying everyone should be super polite and shit. Just be good to each other is all. Jokes are great. Wrapping every damn post in snideness is just lame annoying bullshit. But whatever I guess.

SensitiveGAF :p

I appreciate KyleJ's input and Over's attempts to be KyleJ. Tells it like it is in a cynical way. Maybe slightly less informed and jumping to conclusions, but its always in good joking fun. It's good to have a diverse community of differing personalities.

So either be a dick, accept the dicks, or get labeled sensitive? That's some good bullshit right there yo. I'm not sensitive, I'm just not an asshole. I think your age shows here dude. :p

I like Kyle's input too, and Over's, and everyone's here. I just don't think its cool to be a dick all the time to people if opinions differ. No, those posts are not a always in good joking fun, and if they are, how the fuck are we supposed to know that? Eh? Terrible defense/excuse for being a dick. But in the line of what Kylej would say, you don't need to be his white knight.

Whatever. I'm dropping this now as its futile.

Every precision weapon in Halo has had some kind of basic feature that you have to take into account while using it, or some way to use it that could give you an advantage. Sometimes those features weren't even there on purpose...

Halo CE: Pistol /sniper- Bullets have travel time, and it's relatively slow, getting headshots requires a decent ability to judge and lead shots.

Halo 2: Initial BR has relatively wide spread, updated BR has 0 spread. Instead at high levels understanding of button combos moves away from the idea of pure skill as you want to define it. Managing the burst, and for the sniper, how to use the sweep snipe

Halo 3: BR has a spread with a slight climb, understanding how it works and when to go for the headshot is important

Halo Reach: Bloom

Halo 4: BR with recoil, DMR with bloom(?)

All of these things required some kind of knowledge beyond just the ability to move and aim, Halo's combat is at it's best when it has a variety of wrinkles to it, whether it's things like knowing how to backpack reload, or cut the sound of a reload with a melee, how to manage bloom or use button combos, how to crouch land to prevent fall damage and crouch jump to get to a higher location. There's certainly a healthy argument around what each of these add or take away from the game, but halo has never been about "Just put a reticule over a guy and shoot."

Is anyone else having issues with the mobile Waypoint app? I'm getting redirected into a loop of "the Waypoint service is taking too long to respond" and "we could not sign you in due to windows live ID errors".

I do believe you may just have a problem with me.

I have a problem with no members of HaloGAF, i like everyone and i like some members extra lots, they know who they are.

I used to dislike Ram, no Ram is cool iv become accustom to him.

I know members have ... feeling towards me that aint exactly the best. Thats life.

We just need a multiplayer vidoc so everyone can chill.

There's a draw back for that though, me watching the Halo Reach "Carnage Carnival ViDoc" right now makes me want to play vanilla Reach right and gets me hyped then be somewhat disappointed at launch.

The best thing we need is a solid gameplay, even if it's just a few minutes so we can see how it is. Then again I don't want 343i to release anything they don't have polished/finished and could turn people away because of those reasons.

All in all I don't know what I want:(

My biggest thing is that Frankie has been here for years. He's seen all the complaints about Halo Reach, how its various features, additions, and subtractions from past Halo games messed up, fouled up, destroyed and flat-out fucked up many aspects of Halo. The slower movement, the sprint inertia, the map-breaking sandbox-destroying AAs, the vehicle balance and handling, the map designs, Arena, Invasion, the DMR's 3x scope changing the dynamic of the encounters, the mediocre storytelling, the framerate drops, the ghosting, the drab color scheme, TrueSkill implantation, playlist management, BLOOM, Forge, co-op netcode, etc, etc, etc.

He KNOWS this shit. We've been telling him since forever. We've gone over it again and again and again, often in well-reasoned and supported arguments over why these changes or features were bad for the series.

Ok? He and the rest of 343 wouldn't put back in AAs, Sprint, Bloom or whatever without some RADICAL changes in their concept, implantation, and their effects. Surely they wouldn't fuck up the game again, right? Surely they didn't just ignore all the complaints and not attempt to fix these ideas, correct? Is that an unreasonable, irrational point of view to have?

We about half a year out from release of the game, and little less then a month before E3. The picture of what this game actually is will become clearer as time progresses.

I've done my share of melodramatic, over-exaggerated responses to the news already, complete with funny gifs. I'm past that shit. It's old news. I'm sure once E3 rolls around I'll join back into the routine.

But UNTIL then, until we know anything more about the many, many, MANY things that we haven't played, must less flat-out DO NOT KNOW ABOUT, then what's to talk about? The same people whining about the same shit every fucking day.

E3 really can't come soon enough.

The best thing for me about Reach is that the playspaces are fantastic, the level design is just great and one of the unsung plusses of Reach.

The story however, just misses every mark and feels like jumbled mess.
I agree for the most part. It feels like a lot of spots are calling out to be explored, only to have either a invisible barrier or a "return to battlefield" placed there, it's annoying. I like the level design enough, and the AI encounters are really top notch. I couldn't care less about the story at this point, though; that really speaks to how poorly executed it was in the end. I'm more than ready to experience some Halo 4 in all aspects.

btw - good luck on your self-imposed exile.

Not quite...

I thought it might have been faster regeneration.
This is what I remember reading. I hope 'faster' means by an extremely small margin comparatively, and I also wonder if there is going to be some kind of trade-off for gaining these, for lack of a 343-coined term, perks.

Same, my main issue with the multiplayer that has been revealed so far is the "modifications" or "perks." I don't see why they were needed at all, what's the point? If we might not even notice it why put it in there the first place. I can understand keeping armor abilities in, and some other changes like rotating weapon spawns, but modifications are not needed at all.

Its hard to understand these changes just from reading, so we'll have to wait until we see the game in action which I guess is just a few weeks away. Campaign sounds awesome though, and that is the main factor for me in Halo.

Yes, HaloGAF is known as a bastion of restraint. There's so many of us just terrified to say bad things, if only we had the courage to speak up.

And people call me the king of hyperbole. I'm not saying I'm a martyr or a bastion of intelligence, but way too many people are content to say "I hope it's good" or "stop complaining" than actually express their opinion. If people don't get that vibe, I dunno what to say.

Yeah, I think I'll be playing Reach tonight. It's pretty fun looking at something awesome and then realizing, "holy shit, I can go home and play that any time I want."

Thanks for the correction, I thought I'd read something health related. Not sure that's any better, as that affect combat pacing; I don't want some dude to get his shields back faster than I do, even if he's taken a trade off to get there. Those types of (not sure what else to call them) perks (abilities?) are probably what I'm most nervous about. Hopefully we get some clarity around E3 time; I just want to know what their boundry conditions are. Personally, I would draw the line at base traits such as movement, jump, health, shield recharge time, etc. Extra grenade, or ammo clip? Sure.

Probably wont get Legendary edition for this one.
I just want the game. Not useless junk.
Put that shit in boxes of cereal not in a game box.

Bioshock Infinite. :(

Possbility of GTA V taking its place. :)

Pretty sure both developers are on the we'll release it "when it's done".

I'd love GTA V this fall, so many games though. Sad about Infinite, but if it makes it an even more absurdly great game than I'm okay with it.

Oh that risk. One of the 3 games(CoD, GTAV, Halo 4) will bomb and I'd say it will be Halo 4. But I do not think that would happen.

What? Why will one of those games bomb?

Oh, and about being negative or not about Halo 4, I've seen some stuff that looks good, I've seen/heard stuff that is concerning, but the fact remains that we still know next to nothing about the game. I cannot give an actual informed opinion on the game at this point. Once we get an actual healthy dose of information and see how the game plays, I'll be cheering the awesomeness or condemning the game to the deepest of hells with the rest of them.

I'm just keeping it real.

It's serious concerns dressed in a cynical, joke-like manner. The concerns themselves shouldn't be seen as jokes, just the delivery.

Freely granted, but then you say dumb stuff like this:

and every reponse is "you are wrong, you hate halo, you are mean, it is fine, tee hee, [animated gif]"

Really looks like you are plugging your ears (eyes?) to true rebuttals, because there are no shortage of them.

I might be the minority but i'm not worried about H4 because it can't be worse than Reach. Right? Right?!
A bit better than Reach is still very far from the quality I'm looking for in a Halo game. But maybe I'm at a batshit level of expectation too.

You expect 343 and others to listen to serious concerns when presented in that manner? Think about it.

I've generally been happy at the collectors edition level. Reach's Collectors edition was worth it to read through Halslyes journal on it's own.
