Media Create Sales: Week 21, 2012 (May 21 - May 27)

21/01/94 [SFC] Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem - ? / 776,000
14/05/96 [SFC] Fire Emblem: Holy War Story - 228,578 / 429,763 (498,000 from sinobi)

Well it likely won't get close to reaching Mystery of the Emblem but it should be able to pass Holy War Story.

What's the highest selling Fire Emblem. This version is doing incredible.

From Chris' DB, the top two others are:
Fire Emblem Genealogy of Holy War - 429,763
Fire Emblem The Sealed Sword 345,574

But I actually thought that the first SFC one did better... I just can't find the data.

Edit: Ah, there we go.

From a list in an earlier thread, rearranged:

(Original list: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=37273177&postcount=43 - not sure if he's quoting from elsewhere)

21/01/94 [SFC] Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem - ? / 776.000
14/05/96 [SFC] Fire Emblem: Holy War Story - 228.578 / 429.763 (498.000 from sinobi)
29/03/02 [GBA] Fire Emblem: The Sealed Sword - 126.267 / 345.574
20/04/90 [NFC] Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light - ? / 329.000
14/03/92 [NFC] Fire Emblem Gaiden - ? / 325.000
15/07/10 [NDS] Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem - Hero of Light and Shadow - 147.045 / 247.248
25/04/03 [GBA] Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword - 109.429 / 265.286
07/08/08 [NDS] Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon - 147.704 / 252.309
07/10/04 [GBA] Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones - 146.026 / 246.719
22/02/07 [WII] Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - 73.337 / 171.924
28/08/99 [SFC] Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 - 30.104 / 158.695
20/04/05 [GCN] Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance - 100.357 / 156.413

It's currently third best, quite likely to make it to second best. It'd need massive legs to topple #1, though. Sales figures the series hasn't seen for *fifteen years*.

Would anyone with artistic talent be able to make a FE version of the Mario Chart, by any chance?

Edit: Ah, Bruno himself beat me to it!

bad gameplay lol
According to sinobi both versions had the coupon in Japan.

Edit:

Oh, didn't know that. So the demo only becomes playable later on?

Yep.

And honestly, I really, really doubt this is a case of people buying the game for a demo. I can't say for sure how much bearing the RE6 demo had on DD's sales, but if I had to guess, I'd say probably not all that much. It probably would have sold that well without it.

3 games on 360? MS should really be thanking capcom.
Also, might be old, but is RE:ORC the highest selling non Japanese game in japan this gen?

It would need legs as yet unforeseen in the genre to become #1.

Not saying it's impossible just incredibly unlikely. Will almost certainly be the best selling FE game globally though when all is said and done.

Do we have an idea of how much Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword sold in NA/EU? I would imagine that it was the best selling entry overseas.

These FE numbers dont include the numbers directly sold through Nintendo, no? If that's the case it should be on its way to number 2

Well, Mystery of the Emblem could not be reached, but Awakening is going to put on the table the best numbers in 18 years. It's like a new start for the series.

New IP debuts over 330k in the last 10 years in Japan:
Onimusha (517k)
Devil May Cry (353k)

...

So I would say that if you remove ambiguous cases, this is the third-best new IP since the beginning of the PS2.
All Capcom games? I'm shocked. I hope the sales stay healthy, but I'm not counting on it.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
LoL nintendo fanboys sure are funny - almost every vita game scored top 20 in it's initial week.
Fanboy ? This hurts. But we have had a couple weeks without PSV titles in the Top 50 so i probably got carried a way.
Better than nothing though.

Nope.

Really? Really, really?

(in case you couldn't understand what those links were: first week, Wipeout release week, then a Rayman and some Puzzle release)

Did not look through every week, but I can safely assume that under half of Vita's releases have been in the top 20 in its initial week considering only 4 of the 20 or so releases in the first week made it in the top20. You're probably welcome to troll here, but at least come with some data to back it up.

i never expected fire emblem to not perform like an rpg or other fire emblem games.

what gives?

This is actually a really good question that I can't really think of an answer to.

Right now 500k seems like a foregone conclusion. How much farther could it go?

Fire Emblem's ability to stay fairly high each week is really starting to impress me.

Why exactly is this one doing so well compared to past FE games?

Well, Kakusei does a bunch of things:

-Introduces significant new mechanics to the series, like the double/partner system (two units fighting together, with one boosting another and being able to use occasional support attacks and defense).

-Features many fan favorite mechanics together (generation system, supports (including romance options), branching promotions) - most of those mechanics also give reasons to replay the game (different pairings, different class builds for different characters).

-Features some mechanics which are good for acessibility (option for no perma death and a world map)

-Thanks to the spotpass system, there's also the daily fanservice side - one new character from an old FE added per day for free - aside from just recruiting them, each character has a skirmish option too, which basically means one new battle per day, alongside new weapons and actual stages once in a while. If you think about it, it's not just fanservice, there's something new every day which probably helps making people keep the game rather than just reselling it after they're done with the story.

Other games have done similar daily distributions with the spotpass feature, but the way this FE is using it for characters and battles seems much more significant than just the usual custom weapons or items given by most games.

Depends on how it continues to sell. Capcom execs promised it would sell a million in Japan alone.
Realistically it did an amazing job for a new ip launched late in the generation on a console in Japan. However, considering how much money, development time and the size of the development team was spent it's possible that they didn't budget properly. That's Capcom's mistake in budgeting though since DD is still doing a great job from most's expectations.

It has legs that RPGs and other Fire Emblem games usually don't.

Yeah blame my reading skills. I re-read after I made my post. I just wasn't sure if he was being sarcastic or not at first.

Does it take advantage of streetpass?

Yes. Other players' teams appear in the map, similar to the guest characters - you can pay to recruit their My Unit (custom main character), face them in combat to recruit the My Unit for free or buy items from them.

Is the word-of-mouth good for Fire Emblem 3DS?

If it's really well received and the legs continue to be strong, I'd really be interested to see how that would translate to first-week and lifetime sales for a sequel.

Great opening for DD! And good opening for Mario Tennis, especially looking at the last two releases. Strange non-bump for PS3 hw, probably because that demographic is already there due to Demon/Dark souls and MHPHD. Very solid performance for 3ds

Good to walk into a MC thread where sales are actually "up" for a change. DD launched very well so congrats to Capcom for obviously getting the launch right.

FE's continued success is good to see as well. With hardly any week over week drop happening the game appears to be showing impressive legs.

I need this game so bad now, that sounds awesome for the extra battles alone. Haven't bought a Fire Emblem game since the first GBA release we got here in North America
Yes I'm a bad person, don't hurt me

PSP + Vita Sales are barely above 17k. Not good. Looking at the trend, the Vita has now gone 20 Straight weeks under 20k units per week...and trending downward towards a 10k / week average.

Twenty straight weeks is also the exact same time frame that the 3DS went with it's baseline (~25k / week) until it's price was cut. If the Vita gets no cut, or doesn't receive Megaton software support, it's all over folks.

How did Capcom pulls this off with DD? Was it marketing? Or was there a deep want in Japan for any sort of Monster Hunter-ish game on the PS3 and this filled that gap?

Maybe they just made a game which people actually wanted to play. I have no idea. I thought the demo was really shit myself, but I don't like Monster Hunter either. I love Dark Souls, but the game doesn't play anything like it either.

Interesting. Well, it seems to be working for them. Its got 500k lifetime on lock now by the end of the gen which is just sort of mindblowing.
