I could see them going with "Stickers" and gaming media running with the whole "kiddy" thing again.

"Stickers are for kindergarteners!"

Haha you know it. I guess Stars would be cool too. Mini stars are like bronze, Power Stars are silver, and Grand Stars are Gold.

Considering its Nintendo, they'll probably go with something as simple and iconic as Mario coins to replace achievements.

Compared to having Smash Bros.-like trophies for every achievement? Yes.

Sorry, I'd be more excited to get new Mii customizations and clothes/accessories than something that someone has to go out of their way to bother looking at. It'd just be another extension of the e-peen to have Smash-like trophies.

My dream for nintendo achievements would be that every game has the smash bros/kid icarus/kirby's air ride wall of accomplishments and under each one was something.\

Find Mii however shows that they have most likely been seduced by the lure of hats.

Trophy Hoard >>>>> Mii accessories any day of the week!
The simplest way they could go about it is instead of tying specific trophies to certain achievements (3rd party developers would have to make a much bigger effort to go along with this..) , just give out coins for achievements and then have a few minigames like in Brawl and Melee that allow you to use coins to win new trophies!

That way you could also win trophies to games you've never played before. Just like in Smash it would be a good way to learn about other games as well as advertise them (and when you put it like that there will be much more incentive for 3rd parties to cooperate)

It seems like Sony/MS will fight Wii U with PS3/360 until 2014, if that IGN report is true. Wii U will be in its early midlife when PS4/720 arrives. I´m not sure if that´s good for Nintendo or no.

if they can get the support and keep the games coming, they should be fine

If this achivements nintendo is going to use, can unlock things all across games (like the u play ubisoft thing but better and to a grand scale) it will be the best achivement system ever.

Unlocks in games>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>gamescore or a little image to say youve accomplished something

Even unlocking wallpapers, icons and music would be amazing.

I think it'd be good. At least there's a greater chance of PS360 ports, I would think.

Once the PS720 arrive, I'm pretty sure we're going to see more and more excuses ramped-up. Then again, we're already starting to see them..

If Wii U has established itself by that point, it should be hard for developers to ignore it, given development costs.

It will be very hard to transition from the large userbases of the HD twins and the new userbase of the WiiU to supporting two new consoles. Best thing that will happen for them is to initially get WiiU ports for the first year.

Holding out to get better tech in the machine for UE4 compatibility, I guess?

It's a dangerous gamble to think that people aren't ready for next gen and to expect them to wait another 2 years. Developers included.

Not getting hopes up for the achievement system. It will probably be nothing like what people want. Basically activity log and coins, like the article says. In other words, it'll be shit. At least from my perspective.

I ain't feeling good today. >_<

No, it says by Jan 2014, meaning holiday 2013. PS4/720 will be 1 year after Wii U.

No tweet showing for me. Secret Sundayton?

Edit: Although the mystery of the disappearing tweet is a bit odd, this would actually make a lot of sense. Show off the new controller and new design for the console on Sunday, and then for Ubisoft and EA's conferences they can show off games running on Wii U without any confusion.

Pretty much. Fuck achievements if this just encourages devs to not even think about proper unlockables in games. Of course, DLC encourages this shit too.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
So it sounds like the NintendoDirect will be focusing on the hardware, so probably not software announcements.
