[N-Conf] Pikmin 3

It looks better than Pikmin 2 but it looks like a Wii game in HD, which is probably what it ultimately is and thats fine for me Id rather have them move it up so when I get a Wii U its in decent 720p as opposed to blur-o-rama.

Can't blame people for not wanting them to go all out with the detail and texturing though, especially with the style Pikmin has. It could look really amazing with more modern lighting and shaders and a lot of foliage.

haha, either you are trolling or you have no idea what your eyes are seeing.

I hope they delay it tbh.

It looks better than 2, for sure, but that game is like... eight or so years old. It (3) started as a Wii game, which we've been told... and that's really what it looks like, a Wii game in HD.

I think it looks nice, and it'll be the driving force behind my Wii-U purchase when I get it but I'm not trolling and that's about how it looks, to me, everything about it is within that hardware generation. Lighting, shaders, texturework and geometry, etc. Just cleaned up.

I'm glad that they moved it forward onto the Wii-U, again, but it is a little sad that they didn't go more crazy with the visuals and tech.

I think it goes a lot further than wii assets cleaned up.
But i agree they could have gone even further.

Not seeing any mediocre visuals; looks really good.

You have to remember it's an RTS with lots of AI going on and a ton of Pikmin on screen.

They could have made the water look incredible, instead it looks extremely drab and boring.

It's a little pool of water. What would you expect them to do there? Have rushing rapids? During the conference they showed the blue Pikmin swimming and the water had waves and movement and looked photo-realistic. What more can one ask for?

I thought the water was one of the highlights in the video, doesn't look as good (obviously) in screenshots.

Day -1, nonetheless. Hopefully they can tighten up the graphics in level 3 cum launch!

GAF, who shat on your corn flakes this morning? jeez... this is fucking pikmin through and through and it looks exactly the way it has to look.

are people so desperate to hate all things gaming today??

Umm... maybe some decent shaders or something? Really looks like last gen water. How about some amazing reflections of the foliage and other little things on screen?

Because the press conference was boring, therefore all the games were terrible.

It looks great but I think people set themselves up for disappointment by dreaming up claymation and concept art scenarios.

Is it just me or do those screenshots look like shit?

It looks a lot nicer in motion, if you havent seen the video, its a very good looking title regardless. The screen shots do it a bit of a disservice, but I do maintain my stance that it's probably mostly Wii assets from the original make of the game moved over and touched up.

Graphics is totally unimpressive. I don't care as long as the game as the word "Mario" in it, but for a game like Pikmin I expected much more details. At this point it is safe to say that Wii U capabilities are on par - if not slightly less - than PS360.

It started development on wii which is why it looks the way it looks.

Less than PS360? Check the spec thread.

Don't want to hear excuses. Either the hardware is sub-PS360 or Nintendo didn't work enough on the graphics engine - unsurprisingly since Nintendo is a noob now on working with HD graphics.

Anyone who thinks this game is on a similar level to PIkmin 2 is either r-worded, blind, or trolling. Watch the videos and look at the quality of the animations and textures, the Wii could never run this game much less the gamecube.

Thank god I don't have to use the wiimote+nunchuck to play this. As soon as Miyamoto said "shake the nunchuck to charge is very fun" I said "fuck you, you've learned nothing, shove your bs horrible motion gimmicks." But then he emphasized you could play with only the Wii U pad and I smiled and sat back in my seat, indignant attitude receded.

Other that that, I am pretty surprised at just how... uh, unimpressive it looks, graphically. If any game had a chance to really shine, it was this, and it just looks like a Wii game with a few next-gen shaders/effects added on top.

Still, I'll play it. It seems that was the theme of all the conferences - each of the big three had only one game I wanted to actually play. Ubisoft actually saved the show of all people lol

Since when does the quality of the graphics of one game = the real power of a console?

Are you new to videogames or something? Such an amateur assertion.

Indeed. Especially since this is a game that we know started it's life as a Wii title and that got moved over to Wii U during the process of development. We don't have any type of information on to what extent this game having started its life on the Wii had on it and exactly how far it was into development, so judging what the Wii U can do based on Pikim 3 could quite easily be very misleading.

You say that and then you say you looked at the specs and don't care what they say, you'd rather believe your eyes. The above quote put together with your following sentences make for a terrible argument.

Just saying.

Game looks fantastic but honestly I would've rather had it as a Wii game in 2011 along with SS than a launch game for the WiiU

I'm actually not sure how I'm gonna play it. Nunchuck shaking aside, the pointer in the Wii versions of Pikmin 1/2 was a goddamned revelation. I don't think I can go back to analog sticks after that.

I certainly can! I brought those New! Play Control Pikmin games, and I even enjoyed the pointer control aspect, but I still prefer to play my traditional pad Pikmin 2.

I'm just glad the Wii U allows me to avoid this problem altogether. If I had to shake the controller to play Pikmin 3, I would have abandoned Nintendo once and for all.

ITT people wont be happy, ever, with anything.

The game looks fucking amazing.

I think the terms for which people would have enthusiastically, unreservedly embraced Pikmin 3 are actually very clear and not at all particularly lofty. The fact that you think they are some high minded, impossible-to-please goals shows just exactly how little Nintendo has to do to get people to buy into their shit. They should just put no effort into anything ever!

Waggle hate I overrated IMO. I played DKCR after taking a long break and I never felt like I was pulled out by the experience, not even once.

I thought the game looked nice in motion, although the screenshots don't do it justice. Some of the textures certainly need work though.

Considering it started life as a Wii game, it looks fine. The press kit said it's only 1 player though, no online? Or are they just holding back information for now?

We knew the game started production as a Wii game. We didnt know the fact that they added a whole new management angle where you control various leaders at once. This completely changes the whole game, and it makes it way more interesting. There were many times in Pikmin were I was sitting there just waiting for my pikmins to do their thing, now I can change into another leader and keep doing stuff there. The whole game opens up and allows for much deeper management.

Its new enough, it looks pretty enough, it has enough interesting new ideas to be a proper sequel.

I just dont understand what about it isnt enough to people who wanted a new Pikmin. If you didnt care about it before? sure, be as disappointed as you'd like, but this is the one example of Nintendo doing what people wanted and people still being bummed about it.

If you're just upgrading from Wii, then it definitely is. However, technology has evolved since then.

I think the textures are just fine. It's the geometry that looks like it was directly taken over from the Wii version.

This is on the show floor, right? Can't wait to see video appearing from media outlets later today, I need to see more of this game.

The game looks gorgeous, thanks to solid art and modern shaders. But I stand by my prediction that the game wouldn't be a visual show stopper due to it's roots as a Wii game. Geometry is basic, textures are a mixed back, and shader work is hardly any different from what we've seen all this generation. It makes lovely use of DOF which helps hide blemishes, as it does for every single game that uses DOF.

But yes, the game still looks great, and is currently the one big thing I want for the Wii U.

What I wanted was for a game that suitably use the next-gen. That's my disappointment. It looks exactly like an upscaled Wii game with some basic next-gen shaders and greater DOF. I guess I wasn't up on the whole process of the development, but I thought they might have put a little more effort into it than that. I mean with their lack of anything at E3, it would suggest their money had to go somewhere... but where?

In any event, don't get me wrong, I still think it looks fun, but I'm just not blown away. The split leader thing has been in strategic games of this type for ages, I'm not going to blow my load over that. As long as it plays like Pikmin, I'm guaranteed to like it - that was never in dispute.

I just think you're acting like people are hard to please, and they're really not. SOME people just consider things like visuals extremely important, and don't try to pretend they're not.

I wish they would confirm whether those flying pink creatures at the start of the trailer are, in fact, Pikmin. They've confirmed the Rock Pikmin, but for all we know the pink Pikmin could be enemies in the vein of the Zombie Pikmin from the first game. Also, are there any 720p versions of the screens listed under this game at e3.nintendo.com?

Fair enough, maybe my expectations were elsewhere. I wasn't expecting to be that blown away by the visuals since I knew it was previously a Wii title and all that, but considering that line of thinking I was still pleseantly surprised with the visuals, specially the nice use of DOF.

Gameplay-wise, even though the multiple leader thing isnt anything relatively new in the genre, it still goes beyond what I'd want in a new Pikmin and what Nintendo could do for it to be marketable and profitable. People tend to go on and on about how they dont improve and offer the same game in a slightly different iteration, but this new aspect took me by surprise and has me excited. It looks to be enough like old Pikmin but at the same time quite new in some aspects.

As a Pikmin fan who knew about the development, I just think it's what I wanted to keep me excited. If the disappointment comes solely from the graphics, then that's understandable even if it doesnt apply to me.
