I get the inkling that if a competent port is done most of what can be done on Durango/PS4 can be run on Wii U with sacrifices in resolution. Its got compute shaders, a decent amount of ram and evidently some secret sauce to ensure next-gen features run more efficiently on the GPU than you would otherwise think they would.

Now trick is, will competent ports be done? If it takes any real effort, probably not.

Retro could probably port Watch Dogs or Star Wars 1313, shoot I would even say the Square tech demo at 720 p, but they are going to be busy making their own games.

what rumours?

i dont know any rumors but i think the high end strategy of 360 and ps3 burnt a lot of cash for sony and ms

ms is in a good position right now and they are making a lot of money with 360 and might be really comfortable to go head on head with wiiu for a few years

sony is not in a good position with ps3 as is ms but i dont believe they really are in a position to initiate a high spec console launch after seeing how vita sold so far...

What? Their first year is going to be crucial. If they want to have something to fight the PS4/Durango, they have to do it NOW. Make their console a viable platform, have it in 10 million homes before the competition launches. If they screw up in the year leading to the release of the competing consoles, who is going to bother with a WiiU if it hasn't established itself and the PS4/Durango are on store shelves?

Now was the time to blow people away with stuff like the next Retro game. And something like Watch_dogs should have been a lock for WiiU, demoed during their conference. Instead we got old (down)ports.

Basically I agree with you but I think they will sell those 10 million systems without any problem.

It's Nintendo.

They're like savants. Amazing at some things, completely fucking backwards on others.

My theory is that they were going to use it as a counter if orbis or the 720 were shown. Although Alberto specifically said that the game was in a showable state - that they could've shown it - not that they pulled a trailer at the last minute.

And yet all the whispers I hear (rumors and secondhand inside info) point to high specced machines, nextbox being a bit more powerfull then ps4.

Anyway, I rather have a console that focuses on fun game play experiences then the most pretty graphics.

There was a poster on here who mentioned a rumor about them pulling it all at the last second and replaced it with the 3DS Scott section. I really believe that rumor. That entire press conference was completely unorganized. Scott was scared to death up there, he hadn't rehearsed. It felt completely like filler. Why else would they have that 3DS section in there after they told everyone they wouldn't and announced a completely separate date for it? They probably thought they had left just enough stuff there to 'win' this year and didn't want to over-announce. I bet we're not going to hear anything about it until close to E3 next year.

What kind of fucked up strategy would this be? Remember Wii, when they've shown about 10 first party titles and thus created euphoria even for shit like Red Steel... Remember the 20 minutes of 3DS unveiling and announcements on the homepage two years ago that got you totally excited for the system? But now they need 3 goddamn E3s and a complete drought of games that aren't niche or late localisations (and I loved most of them) before they properly start off the console... right, I don't believe it. Why would anyone fuck up like this on purpose, it was terrible all around, I can't believe they really think this is any better than the 3DS launch or will attract any hobby gamers. I'm the biggest Nintendo fan and Wii defender, but I'm not going to buy this shit now.

If you don't wanna show the Retro game, cool. So, where's Monster Games, Goodfeel, Monolith, EAD Tokyo, anyone?

If we were Nintendo we would do the same. I thinks this E3 was a total failure. But, they have to fight against 720/PS4 announcements next year so it makes perfect sense to wait until then to show the big things and have a decent fight at the end of 2013. This considering that the system has some horsepower (wich don't believe anymore)

Doesn't make sense to me. Nintendo is going to be overshadowed by Microsoft's and Sony's new consoles next E3 no matter what they show. After people have just seen graphically breathtaking "next gen" games, they won't care as much for the inevitably worse-looking Nintendo games regardless how promising they are. This E3 was Nintendo's chance to shine and to sell people on the hardware -- but they didn't. Next year most eyes will be focused on other things.

I wonder if it was because what Retro was working on was too early and didn't compare favorably to what current gen software was pushing. Would be embarrassing if it was meant to showcase the graphics of the Wii U, so instead they concentrate on showing games that were never meant to push the machine.
This on the other hand makes sense to me. Though I'm not sure if showing nothing is really less embarrassing...

I wouldn't be too sure. WiiU will not have the same mass market appeal to the casual gamers (now on iOS, facebook,...) as Wii and what they've shown so far isn't going to be reeling in PS360 gamers either. At this moment, they have to make sure not to turn WiiU into a new GCN (largely supported by Nintendo fans).

Well, i need to see AC3, Mass Effect, Aliens etc... with my own eyes. Because so far no WiiU game i've seen is up there with the best of PS360. You would normally expect this from Nintendo themselves, but with Retro's game being absent and Pikmin 3 looking more like Pikmin 2 on Dolphin and not like a next-gen Pikmin... i'm not happy. Actually, the best looking WiiU game i might have seen was Trine 2. And if they get rid of the jaggies on Lego: CS, that also looks nice.

Maybe N is trying to do a trinity thing again. MH wasn't known at E3. It was announced in September. Or they are holding back to counter any next gen announcement from MS and Sony which might coincident with the Wii U release. Yesterday's news are forgotten pretty fast and there's a long way till release.

So if they don't announce/reveal during this week, I want this game fucking perfect when it is shown. I mean, like, when it's released, it had better be beyond awesome.

There's a lot riding on this game, whatever it is, in deciding whether I buy a Wii U or not. And that's coming from a long time Nintendo fan.

Funny how a week ago I was certain they had my purchase. Now I'm not so sure.
