Vivendi looking to sell Activison Blizzard.. Microsoft possible suitor

Searched and couldn't find a thread on this...

Surprised cause this could be a MEGATON.
Vivendi is strangled by a pile of only slowly declining debt that currently stands at about $15.5 billion. The sale of Activision Blizzard, which is majority-owned by Vivendi, could alleviate the growing pain substantially. The 60 percent stake Vivendi holds is estimated to be worth about $10 billion. According to Reuters, Vivendi may have started fielding potential buyers, which reportedly include Time Warner as well as Microsoft.

When asked for comment, both companies declined to comment on Activision Blizzard, but did not deny their interest either. Similarly, Vivendi did not deny that Activision Blizzard is for sale and said that "all options are on the table". As attractive as Activision Blizzard may be as a game publisher, it would be relatively easy for Vivendi to part ways as it is not a core business for the company.

Founded back in 1853, and headquartered in Paris, Vivendi's heart is in music publishing and TV

Ok let me state the obvious.. If Microsoft does buy them, then well COD is a Xbox exclusive for life?

Diablo 4 for GFWL!

But I dont see MS spending $10+ billion on them.

going MS exclusive would dramatically effect Activision's bottom line which is most of the reason someone would buy them and is where alot of there value is.

I dont see it happening unless MS keep ActiBliz separate from the xbox division and allows them to release games on all platforms and thus lets them keep bring in the crazy amount of money they currently do.

Well I was hopping Sony would somehow do it since they don't have a big shooter. If MS does it, then nextbox is a must for me. I am not MP guy, but COD MP appeals to me.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!

#GAMECHANGER!

Sony First Party vs MS First Party... Jesus!

Fuck No to Time Warner... Good God, don't they have WB Interactive already?

So AB + WBI as #1 Publisher overall, EA will get owned hard

Not a very good time to buy. They cost a lot because their products are still in high demand but demand is sinking and no new flavor of the year product in the pipeline, as far as I can tell.

2012. It was true all along.

Nothing solid though. Like I posted in that other thread, they are just speculating. This is the original source btw -

Microsoft is another player with the necessary firepower, but it is likely to be focused on the next generation of its Xbox console. The source said: "They probably don't want to distract themselves too much, but they are the ones who, if they want to stay in games, would think about owning some of these big franchises, not just providing the consoles."

Would be great for the Xbox brand if it indeed happens.

**BOOM**

So you thought you escaped eh, Bungie? YOU THOUGHT WRONG.

this would be the worst thing to ever happen for every gamer on earth....

couls SE afford it? They want to be a western company bad enough...

Microsoft buying this would be yet another failed investment on their part.

1) Activision is strongly multiplatform focused. Going exclusive would cut out a significant part of their revenue.
2) Call of Duty is currently at its peak and as such adds a huge amount of value to the company. This will change rapidly in the next 2-5 years.
3) The next big thing from Activion is Skylanders, which doesn't fit Xbox at all.
4) Blizzard would probably continue their PC only strategy and their IPs wouldn't really fit well with Xbox either.

Or Microsoft profits from the Sony & Nintendo ports?

So what your saying it is right up Microsoft's alley of purchases and their outcomes... Gotcha!

I would Laugh My FUCKING ASS OFF if some Lord Gaben Steamrolled in and Yoinked it for themselves

Scraping the bottom of the barrel there.

This.
There is no good reason for MS to invest in Activision. Especially not now.
Vivendi's debts are far from the only reason they are selling Activision.

In the other thread it was explained that even if Microsoft bought Vivendi's share of Activision they could not make COD exclusive as it would consciously hurt the company's bottom line (and thus other shareholders) in order to benefit Microsoft. This conduct is illegal and so the only way for MS to have COD exclusive is to buy 100% of Activision.

Crazy thought, but I just imagined Blizzard turning into a Kinect shovelware first party for Microsoft a la Rare.

RIP.

Would be a huge coup, but I don't see it happening. Going console-exclusive devalues Activisions assets immensely, would the value it brings to the Xbox brand make up for it? I doubt it. But who knows, very interesting possibility.

Edit: Didn't consider this, definitely skews the cost/benefit even more.
