GAF Steam Sale Hunt

I picked up Metro 2033 like a year ago for $5-- it's always $5 in the Steam sales and I was building a new machine so I figured I needed something to test it. So I spent my time playing everything else instead, until today.

45 minutes later.

Metro 2033 apparently has excellent gamepad support, as the first thing I saw was Press Start. I prefer to play my shooters with keyboard/mouse, and couldn't intuitively figure out how to get it to ignore my gamepad, so I quit, unplugged my gamepad, and restarted. The game also supports weird resolutions, so there was another restart to get it to 1920 x 1080.



I only played the prologue and the first chapter, figuring I'd call it quits at the start of chapter 2. The events so far have been pretty heavily scripted, but that's a tutorial for you.



So how does one judge a shooter? It looks great and runs great. I haven't played Metro 2032 but I think you can get a lot of the backstory from context. I'll definitely return to this in the future, but for a first impression I'd say it's worth playing.

Edit: Oh and also what's with the difficulties? Easy, normal, hardcore, ranger, ranger hardcore. What's ranger vs not-ranger? This is never explained.

In ranger mode, weapons do more damage. An initial complaint about Metro 2033 was that the enemies were bullet sponges. So they updated the game.
 
For Contest #13, I'll give my votes to TheNamelessOne for Big Whoop and A Human Becoming for his track. They both look like fun.

For #15, Joonytoon gets my vote!

I'll play it a bit to see how far I can come in a few minutes and then choose the level I managed to get to. I cant choose one of the later levels since people who never played SMB dont have those unlocked, naturally.

But yes, its not going to be the first level.

Btw, it really makes me sad that the ONLY deal I wanted to see in this stupid steam sale is not popping up. Going by the games that actually get daily deals, its not likely to either. MAYBE it gets a flash deal :/

Why, which game are you waiting for?

I'm waiting to see if ys: oath in felghana somehow manages to get a daily or a flash sale.

Ys games had a daily deal, didnt they?

And I want GalCiv2. I already had it a few years ago, but lost the DVD at some point. Great 4X game and it maddens me that I dont own it anymore.

Edit: And I also want more people to buy it, because its probably one of the best 4X games currently out there. People dont notice it if it doesnt get a front page deal.

Haha, I was actually considering a Microsoft Flight contest, and about making a beautiful/nice screenshot :P Its only a light sim (more arcade), though. Railworks seems to be more "sim" and more unforgiving.

No doubt about that. Lots of content, great AI and huge universe to play in.
 
ys origin had a flash deal but not felghana yet

I've been looking at GalCiv 3 for a while. No idea how it plays but I really like the idea of 4X games.

MS Flight is awesome. Aren't there scores in missions? Would you reccomend any DLC if it came on sale again?

Well I dont care much about the "models" in these games, even though its nice to have at least some variety, and the models in Railworks are much more excessive and interesting to look at (HUGE TRAINS vs planes), but I definitely recommend picking up the mission packs since they add new scenery. The scenery which is not just copy/pasted, since they tried to actually remodel the land you are flying over. There are two region packs currently, one is the 2nd half of Hawaii and the other one is Alaska. The Alaska pack is highly recommended, the Hawaii one only if Hawaii doesnt piss you off yet in case you played the Free version for too long.

The missions have scores, yeah. Depending on how long it takes you I believe. Might need to check if they score you for a better landing etc, that would work really well for a contest then. Will check later.

Thats why I said I choo more than you :P
But yes, the USA pack. Which was like 115€ content reduced to 5€ (so 97%off?), compared to only the base game that was 30€ reduced to 3€(90% off).
