[I need help] Batman Arkham City Steam won't open.

I purchased Batman: Arkham City during the Steam sale and after days of downloading it i go to install it. I get to the SecruROM activation and activate the game all fine, but the game doesn't start. I CRTL+ALT+DEL and see BMlauncher.exe running in the background and it saying on Steam community that I'm running the game. I simply cannot get this thing to work, i have being searching through the Steam forums and other sites for the past hour on trying to look for a solution and I can't find anything. When i say it doesn't start i mean literally, no crash errors, no game, nothing.

* I have validated files
* Tried restarting Steam
* Defraging files
* Running as Administator
* Latest Games for Windows Live client is installed
* Not even the PC Config starts up

I have 2 harddrives one SSD for OS stuff and the other a 2TB harddrive for games, Batman AC is on the 2 terrabtye harddrive. I have Windows 7 64bit and a GTX 670. I doubt you guys need any other hardware specs than that.

I think i managed to get the error in the Event Viewer.

Halp Gaf? Did i blow money for no reason?

which drive is Steam installed on, the SSD or the terabyte drive?

Can you run other Steam games?

It's a known issue that no one has fixed.

Arkham Asylum suffers from the same problem.

Honestly, I bet it's starting fine, but it takes a good 20 seconds or so to show it. Start it and let it sit for a minute without messing with it and see what happens. I thought the same as you, but it was just SecuROM causing headaches.

EDIT: Just tried it and it takes 15 seconds from the time I double click the game to actually show the splash screen. I also have a GTX 670.

I had it 'open' for 10 minutes and it's still not opening.

also what's your driver situation?

Latest Nvidia drivers.

I haven't even tried opening mine yet. I'm going to do so now and I'll let you know if I have any problems. You're making me worried lol

edit - Well, it opens up fine for me. Sorry, I thought if I had the same problem we could both be looking for a solution.

I guess i blew my money, i'm at wits end here on trying to get it to work. Take heed people and watch this happen to your Dark Souls.

The only thing i can thing of is a crack but why the hell would I want to do that?

try going into the batman folder and see if you can start the game from the actual game exe instead of the launcher exe

Go into the batman setup folder and manually install al the exe files there, reboot, and see if it works.

Oh man, this brings back painful memories. This was the very first game I was introduced to GFWL and boy-oh-boy, never in my life did I want to commit horrible things after trying to get this game to work as well as having extreme disdain for this particular service.

Here's what I did, the last time the game did NOT run on me, I redownloaded the game AGAIN hopefully getting the latest file from the steam client. After the download is finished, I immediately backed up the game JUST in case this particular installation would go awry. After fiddling for two hours, I ended up having to download GFWL client from MS (for the absolute latest version) just so the game would be able to run.

Hope this helps.

I dont think this is possible with the Steam version? Will i lose a SecuROM activation?

steamapps\common\batman2\Setup. The folder won't be there if you've used Steam Cleaner (if so, just verify the game's cache).

Good to hear. I also had lots of problems with Virty MVP making games unplayable (although, interestingly, not with Batman AC) so I uninstalled the whole thing and disabled it. Could be a neat feature but not ready for primetime.

I decided to check if I can get Battlefield 3 working as i couldnt get it working for the past 5 months. Guess what? It seems disabling that crap just fixed BF3 lol.

Uninstalling that shit first thing in the morning haha.

You know what the problem was all this time? Virtu MVP. I disabled it and now Batman AC is working!

Holy fuck!
To be honest Virtu MVP is absolute trash, damn thing is only good for benchmark programs. It seems to only work for very specific games. I got it for my brother, because of all the good things I heard. Never again.

LOL

Okay, guess the lesson is "fuck Virtu MVP!"

Glad you got it working, it's a kickass game.
