Do you agree with 'Adblock' plugins?

I mean, for every user that uses Adblock. sites are loosing money from that use not seeing their adverts.

I love GAF, Reddit, and some other sites and don't use Adblock on them since the ads are quite un-intrusive but some ads (YouTube, full page banner ads) are just plain annoying.

So do you guys use them and turn them off for certain sites or not use them at all?

i use it on comedy central sites, i watch daily show on there and i get, i shit you not the SAME commercial advertising the daily show for years now. 3 times an episode i get a commercial for a show i'm already watching. always the same one.

Some sites have reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal fucking annoying ads that make navigation a bitch.

But come on. If you use any site on even a slightly regular basis, blocking ads is just shitty behaviour.

For

Pop ups

Ads that auto play audio/video when you are using a text only site. Aka for a youtube video of a giant bomb quicklook it's fine with me.

Sites with a history of ads that serve up spy/malware

Otherwise? A dick move.

I mainly use it as another layer of anti virus protection. If I know the site's safe, I'll let ads through. NeoGAF isn't blocked for example.

Oh, and I block YouTube since they started tossing in talking sidebar ads that make it annoying to attempt to watch any video.

Twitch.tv has been on my block-list ever since they started showing those fucking pill-adverts that bypassed muting and hid the in-video mute icon behind a large white bar.

GAF is actually the only site I've bothered to turn my Adblock off for. I just don't care enough about most other sites I visit to go out of my way to give them ad revenue. However, even before I got Adblock I don't think I've clicked an Internet ad in my life.

Nope. The ads on Neogaf aren't exactly intrusive either. Most of the time I don't even notice that they are there.

It's unfortunately a necessary evil for a lot of people. I shouldn't say this, but I can't blame anybody for installing adblock after they visit the website I work for, to be perfectly honest.

That said, I don't really like Adblock since it does cut off website revenue. It's just a shame that so many websites run these horrible, disreputable ads because they sign up with these terrible ad serving agencies.

I don't even click on the ads. I never find any of them relevant to my interests. I used to click on one or two I found curious, but that was when I was new to the net.

I don't use Adblock on NeoGAF, but I use it for every other website.

Oh, your website has ads? I don't care.
I have the power to make my website browsing experience better. So I do.

Neogaf ads are how they should be. Pop ups are the worst. I purposefully click on the ads and it let it load then close it just because NG is that awesome and deserves it. I don't do that for any other website out there. I use it for
Youtube
because I hate waiting 15s-30s to watch videos that sometimes aren't even that long.

Sites I like and the ads aren't intrusive gets a pass. Every other site gets blocked.

I use it to block comment fields on news websites and on youtube. The best use of Adblock Plus imaginable. I despise youtube comments and news story comments. Disgusting and idiotic... always, no exceptions.

Absolutely agree. Whitelist the sites you want to support, hell even keep that "show non-intrusive ads" on.

If there was any other alternative, I'd might use something else. But even one ad with frigging autoplaying music or just some hostile code is too much. You would be dumb not to use one in this day and age.

GAFGold has no ads.

But I don't use AdBlock anyway. I don't trust a random script running behind my browser. The only time I have to use AdBlock is when ads are automatically blocked at like school or a library.

I'm with you OP I don't use ADBLOCK on any of my favorite sites. I want NeoGAF to have a long a prosperous life. I also want to continue reading Evilore's travel tales. I feel good knowing that I have a small part in financing his trip of a lifetime.

I have an adblocker installed in most my browsers, but do subscribe to some sites whose content i value and read often - NYTimes, ESPN Insider, Economist and a few others.

Adblock is a must (on most sites).

When companies start to show sensible ads and not bullshit flashing ads then I might re consider. Until then, Adblock will keep my internet nice and clean.

(I don't adblock on GAF. I love GAF...)

I don't use Adblock on NeoGAF or Twitch, especially those who use commercials to generate revenue. However, if there are other sites that have pop-up issues, I will turn it on.

I whitelist the sites worthy enough, but Youtube and the cadre of porn sites and some other questionable websites? Fuck no, I adblock/noscript em all with extreme prejudice.

I will continue to sleep fine at night.

I prefer noscript. Allow trusted sites to run all their ads, while not letting myself be caught off guard like, say, when Siliconera has trojans infesting their ads.
