Okay... Let's try this again.

EA have released a trailer that shows off the core feature - multiplayer alongside some new gameplay, and can be seen here,
www.youtube.com/watch?feature=m-feedu&v=c3oFKhftK88

New details were also released,
First up, we revealed the first details about the all-new SimCity World feature designed to keep you connected with both your friends and, yep, the world. Whether it’s competing or collaborating in Global Challenges, checking your spot on the leaderboard, buying/selling resources in the Global Market, or keeping tabs on what your friends are up to with CityLog, SimCity World really pops the notion of isolated cities living in a bubble. If you want to learn even more about how SimCity World works, we got you covered - check back here next week for a detailed commentary from the Maxis team. In the meantime, take a look at the sweet new Gamescom trailer to get a first-hand look at SimCity World.

The beta has also been announced,
And for some of you, the wait won’t be long thanks to our first big announcement: beta! Yep, you asked for it - we’ll be running an exclusive beta before SimCity’s launch that will give a generous group of lucky fans an opportunity to not only don their mayor hats early, but also have a chance to provide valuable feedback straight to the team here at Maxis. We’ll be releasing more details on the beta soon, so in the meantime, visit the beta section of SimCity.com to sign up today.

Along with the game coming for MAC and SimCity Insider,
We’re also super pleased to announce that we’re coming to the Mac! As all of our long-time fans know, the Maxis studio has always been a huge supporter of Mac, so now you have power to change both the world and your operating system. Phew! That’s a lot of stuff. But we’re not done yet! We’ve also laid down the foundation for SimCity Insider, the brand new section of SimCity.com where you’ll receive tons of exclusive content you won’t find anywhere else. Will you get new stuff every month? Nope. Every two weeks? Not quite. Try this: Every single week SimCity Insider will release all kinds of exciting stuff you won’t find anywhere else. Sign up right now and get not one, but two Insider-only screenshots and a SimCity ringtone. And the best part? It’s completely free!

Thoughts on the new details, along with the core feature being multiplayer?

Finally got registered for beta after smashing F5 for about 20 minutes.

Now the waiting begins. I've been extremely lucky here lately for getting picked for betas. Please continue. Fingers crossed and knocking on wood.

Finally got through with some perseverance

Now we wait for the invites

i try to sign up for the beta at work and they want a dxdiag file.

heh. not signing up on this crap computer, thats for sure.

i guess ill get back to it at 8pm.

If it's just leaderboards, I suppose that's okay.

If it can be played like the old Network Edition, that's also fine.

If they're trying to get into some EVE Online thing where players can affect overall prices for other players or whatever, that's not really what I'd look for in a SimCity game tbh.

Will there be a way to play off? This is one of those guilty pleasures where I just close in my room and play for 7 hours all by myself. :p

I was going to sign up for the beta at work but since they are asking for a *Dxdiag File I'm assuming they are judging your drivers etc. Am I correct in thinking this, should I wait till I get home on my gaming PC?

Everything went through just fine for me.

Yeah, home PC. win button + r > dxdiag > save .txt file

They probably want to test it on a wide range of PCs so even if it's weak you can probably still get in. However those that won't run the game for sure they'll probably ignore.

Here's more details on.. SimCity World

Citylog
Citylog is a bundle of integrated features that allows you to connect, compare and compete with your friends in SimCity! Receive updates on your city and track your friend’s progress. If your friend’s city reaches the top of the pollution leaderboard, Citylog will tell you! Citylog also provides recommendations based on your friend’s gameplay experiences so there’s always something new to do! Receive invites to global events and notifications when new challenges are available to play. You can view your achievements and access global leaderboards from the Citylog hub.

Global Markets
Resources can be bought and sold locally in your region or on the global market, but remember your region only has a finite number of resources! Everything from coal and ore to computers and TVs can be traded on the global market! We simulate true-to-life supply and demand, so if there’s a sudden oil shortage and players across the world are buying, oil prices will go up, but if there’s an excess of coal deposits, coal prices will go down! With thousands of cities and regions playing at once, simulating the decisions of millions of Sims, you and your friends will constantly impact the global market.

Challenges
Maxis will be hosting new challenges in SimCity! Compete to grow the fastest population, create the most jobs, educate the most Sims, build the safest city and much more! Global challenges require teamwork across the SimCity community, but meeting these goals has its own special reward: exclusive achievements and content unlocks! Meet goals like the Final Frontier challenge by launching 10,000 shuttles into space or participate in reducing the carbon footprint by eliminating 50% of pollution worldwide!

Yeah no way this work PC will run it, anyone want to lend me their Dxdiag.txt file lol, guess I'll signup when I get home and hope that all the invites are not over with

I don't get why people are having a whinge? Oh god! There are going to be...OTHER cities! OMFG! I think it sounds kinda cool running your own city with a global scale of things.

No, I meant without the multiplayer component.

Yeah you can. I mean your city is always connected to others but you don't have to do anything about it if you wish.

Not wanting to play an always online SP game is a valid complain.

Personally my ISP never failed me and I don't find this to be a big deal, but I can understand people being upset about it.

I can still play Sim City 4 right now, I might not be able to play Sim City 5 10 years from now.

Yea, I'm on the fence about it, since my internet connections isn't always so...reliable...

If I get in the beta, I'll try it out and see how often I get kicked out of the game.

Care to explain, or are you unable to articulate whatever it is that goes on in your minds?

Everything they've shown so far has looked excellent. The community features they're showing should add longevity and look fairly compelling to me.

Is "community features" the new defense force phrase for always on DRM? Anyways it worked for Diablo 3, why not Simcity as well?

This game can suck it, Simcity is dead to me.
