How is NSMB2 doing compared to the other 2 NSMB titles? Its numbers look weak to me.
Weak isn't the term I'd use. It'll be a million in Japan before the end of the month and then there's Europe and Americas. Plus the budget would be relatively minuscule for the title.

Yeah. Since it was in the Top 30 two weeks ago, was able to work out last week's numbers. It was out of the MC Top 50 last week. Amazing increase! :lol
How did you find last week's numbers?

Of course it could be well over that when you combine retail and digital. I wonder with what frequency Nintendo will share that information?
I would be very surprised if ~250k people bought the game directly from the Eshop.

I'm happy with these numbers overall

Also, when do you guys think the 3DS ltd will overtake PS3 ltd? I'm thinking late October/early November

Well, it's weak considering the series sales, but it's strong in absolute terms, since it was certainly a cheap title to develop (not to advertise, even though ads run along with 3DS XL).

People always forget that while the development budget is probably pretty small, the marketing budget on the hand should be fairly huge.

Of course, NSMB2 is a money-maker. But it is selling considerably weaker than its predecessors so far, no way denying that.

DS was destroying everything and that didn't help the Wii with 3rd parties. Japanese 3rd parties who are going to make HD console games don't only have Japan in mind all the time.

It's not that 3DS is doing so well as console just aren't. Something like Wii U is needed in all territories. However given that many devs, especially Japanese have expressed that hollywood budgets are hurting them I see them being more hesitant to get aboard more expensive systems with high development expectations. I'm kinda reminded how a lot of PS2 devs jumped to PSP rather than PS3. Well with Vita the way it is that's unlikely going to work the same way but it presents an interesting opportunity for Wii U to allow them to continue with the technology they have while still being a hot item. Even if they stick to current gen it'll still mean a good chance of crossports which third parties love and Wii couldn't really support.

And NSMBU sales are probably going to be lower than that because it's a launch title with a starting userbase of 0.

Yes, but as far as I know, Nintendo tried to tie together NSMB2 and 3DS XL in all their ads, which is a pretty smart move if you ask me.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Huge, but expected drop for DQX. Still going to probably get to maybe 650K or so just for the Wii original release- pretty good.

This is what I was asking about. I'm not denying its a success or that its raking in cash. That much is a given.

I went to Yodobashi camera today and saw a lot of people in the Vita section looking at the games and trying out the system. It was pretty weird, I have never seen so many interested in the system before. Of course the 3ds section was also full of people, but I wouldn't be surprised if obon week shows a good boost in Vita hardware sales.

Million seller still in sight. :)

LBX Baku Boost is a big surprise too, it's on track to outsell Boost PSP even. LBXW Boost for 3DS has to be a sure thing by now.

It really does, can't see it being announced til after the PSP/vita versions are released though o think the fact its so obviously gonna happen could significantly effect sales of those versions

Followers of Queen Miku?

I would go so far as to say it may even be a late December 2012 release if it's 3DS exclusive.

With the tinyness of the vita market and the fact the PSP market is declining fast I doubt they'll try a second version on those, then again IE wii got 2 versions within a couple of months

How are these numbers for DQX compared to DQVIII - would have thought they would have been a bit better.

Although to be honest I kind of hope it does badly since I was rather hoping for a return to V/VIII style grand storytelling.

08./07. [PS3] Persona 4: The Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena (Atlus Co.) - 16,912 / 165,873 (-17%)

Great third week, specially after the sizable drop it had last week. This mean that it was probably supply constrained, it won't have any trouble outselling Tekken 6 which is the best-selling "traditional" fighting game of this generation.

Again it's an MMO so it's a totally different ball of wax compared to DQVIII or DQIX

Horrible, but why would you compare an MMO when the point is subscriptions to a sp game?

It's a subscription based MMO. The best comparison is more a relative one, like FFXI/XIV to the FF mainline series or MHFO to the MHP series.

How did you find last week's numbers?

Famitsu Sales: Week 33, 2012 (Aug 06 - Aug 12)
05./00. [3DS] Run for Money Tousouchuu: Flee From the Strongest Hunters in History! (Namco Bandai Games) - 25,365 / 75,243 (+968%)

That makes the LTD last week of 75243-25365=49878.

Famitsu Sales: Week 31, 2012 (Jul 23 - Jul 29)
24./18. [3DS] Tousouchuu: Shijou Saikyou no Hunter-Tachi Kara Nigekire! <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2012.07.05} (¥5.040) - 6.585 / 47.504 (-27%)

That makes the weekly number from last week (that's not in the Top 30) 49878-47504=2374.

I'm curious as to how Persona 4 Arena's sales are doing compared to other major fighting game releases over the years.

It's doing very well. These are LTDs of the biggest recent fighting games I can think of. Except SSBB, which has done over 2 million.

PS3 Street Fighter IV 157,704
X360 Street Fighter IV 52,937
PS3 Super Street Fighter IV 153,924
X360 Super Street Fighter IV 42,928
3DS Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition 137,883
PS3 Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 82,179
X360 Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition 9,229

PS3 Tekken 6 190,900
X360 Tekken 6 48,378
PSP Tekken 6 65,489

PS3 Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds 98,944
X360 Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds 14,736
PS3 Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 19,126

PS3 Street Fighter X Tekken 72,079
X360 Street Fighter X Tekken 8,115

It's hard to compare both numbers because they're completly different games. I guess DQX and FF XI'd be better.

Great numbers indeed, but I don't think it's fair to compare Persona 4 Arena with other fighting games, since I do think people who bought this are mainly Atlus / Persona fans.
