I was at Famicom Dojo today (small mom and pop store in my). They had 1 used Vita, 3G for 15,000yen and a used copies of Persona 4. The owner explained, Seems someone bought the system, beat Persona 4 and sold it right back. I wonder why if they were going to do that, they went with the 3G system..

Think my thought about 3ds hitting 8 million before vita hits 1 is a very very good possibility by famitsu then

With the way it's going, the 3ds could hit 8 million in 10-13 weeks depending on how it fares. I can't see vita reaching 1 million before that with its under 10,000 a week fad.

Even at current level of sales Vita needs 13 weeks max. And it actually have software releases for next few weeks.

This seems....strange. Do many people buy a system to sell back after beating one game?

Yeah actually it happens a lot. For example, when Blue Dragon Came out on the 360 it had a sales surge and after that the market was flooded with used 360s and copies of Blue Dragon.

I've lived in Japan 9 years now. I have a Japanese wife and kid (and one more on the way next month), I speak a lit of the language and have studied the culture extensively, but still I can't wrap my head around buying a system for one game and immediately selling it back. But do keep in mind that the trade in rates are a lot fairer to the customer than they rates most Americans are used to from Gamestop.

EDIT: Beat me too it frankie_baby!

Great numbers indeed, but I don't think it's fair to compare Persona 4 Arena with other fighting games, since I do think people who bought this are mainly Atlus / Persona fans.

It's a bit of both since it seems like many non-persona fans thinks it's a great fighting game. But it's no denying that the Persona ip is really strong.

I highly doubt it unless Japan has suddenly gone digital crazy.

It's not that crazy. It's now at 7 million 3DS sold. We're talking about NSMB2 a game that will sell and will have huge legs. Just add I don't know more or less 75 000 units sold digitally in 2 weeks and the total would be around 850 000 with the recent Media Create/Famitsu results. The million could be made this week or next week. If it was a no-name game, then it would be crazy.

But yes, it's a wild guess but it's not crazy.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
19./25. [3DS] Monster Hunter 3 G (Capcom) - 7,188 / 1,516,967 (+16%)

What happened!

Import sales :-/

@ Vinnk
Congrats man, been listening the last months to Famicom Dojo - i listen to you more often on the cast than i read your comments on GAF ;-)

Didn't expect nothing less, good job.

wait, what was this about again...?
In a list of rumors by Creamsugar(?) there was one about that (3DS remake 7th episode in a very popular RPG series).
Almost every rumor in that list proved to be true.

Hope it is the RIGHT series.

EDIT:
Oh, and congrats Vinnk!

Thanks. I didn't know any of the gaffers listened to it. But yeah, I need to post more. I want to start doing the Vinnk's Village thing again but I only have time to go to 1 or 2 stores a week and that really doesn't glean enough information for a good post.

The three kings of Japan at the three first places. And that's main entries, or very close to main entries even if there is a con at each.
Is that even already happened? (maybe last week but I didn't noticed until now!)

Monster Hunter isn't in the top 3 =p

Yay! I always really enjoyed those when I was lurking this thread, and, especially with some new system launches (Vita previously, and WiiU eventually), would definitely be fun and interesting to have those again.

(and one more on the way next month)

And I'll add in my congrats on that too. Can still remember you announcing your marriage in this thread as well (been lurking for a while), and glad to hear that everything has been going so well.

True but it's debatable! ^^
With the decades of history of Mario, DraQue and Pokémon, there is many spin-offs and entries that didn't sell as much as some MonHun, but overall, I don't think MonHun is yet at the level of those three. We can have a japanese Final Fantasy fan and a MonHun fan fighting to death for the 4th place, but not the top 3 yet.

Didn't Monster Hunter Portable 3rd sell more than Dragon Quest IX?

Nintendo started making a profit on each 3DS sold just in time. The past few weeks 3DS sales have been really high, and most likely really profitable.

Its that big on portables only though, where a DQs main titles also sell millions on home-consoles*.
*as long as they are no mmorpgs :lol

Hehe its cool, i asked you about it a couple weeks ago and been listening since then. Its nice, always around an hour and interesting topics so far.

And i would approve a VinnK`s Village Holiday special if possible, after the WiiU launches - that would be great.

Yeah, I guess you did ask about it. Just thought you were being nice. As for the holiday special, you got it. I should actually have some time around then and Japan sales will be very interesting.

how can you guys say NSMB 2 isn't selling well when we have no idea how many digital purchases there have been?

The thing is... Japan doesn't have much of a 'digital purchase culture', for want of a better word. It's quite possible that the Vita and NSMB2 have turned that around in recent years - but we've no figures to base that suspicion on; the best we can muster is a lower bound for Vita digital sales, and that's fairly low.

The evidence we have available to us suggests it's selling averagely (it'd be wrong to say badly), and that's the only concrete thing we have to go on.

So now that the main entries are going to be on handhelds and we can consider the console entries mere spin-offs, will Monster Hunter be on the same level as DQ?

Those numbers look low for NSMB and Brain Training. I wonder if the fads are finally dying off, forcing Nintendo to actually do something new for a change.

Oh, and congrats Vinnk! ^_^
