*conspiracy theory*

if the guys in red wanted to take us out, they could just throw us to the sharks and watch us tear each other's throats out ...

maybe the Wii U launch is just a big ruse to weed out some of the GAF newbies and extremists!

lol

ah well ... Video Games?

What's your take on Metroid? do you want a new game next year or do you want them to get more dev time and launch in 2014? I'm torn.

It was in gbatemp, one of the guys responsible for port RetroArch to Wii speak about Wii's wonderfull architecture and how it stand against other system, I think you would like read it.

http://gbatemp.net/topic/333126-retroarch-a-new-multi-system-emulator/page__st__120

I never doubted it >_>

Nintendo are great hardware architects. Even if they don't throw mega power around, if you're someone with an appreciation of hardware design then you have to admire Nintendo. Makes you wonder what might have been if they added a little more juice to the GPU and HDMI out!

I still wonder if a paint job could pull that off or a decal if I had a good image of it

This. Though this will be painted on and protected where a decal will eventually peel off. Still needs something more for my money. Pikachu themed OS? I dunno!!

Very interesting read. Thanks for the post.

Discuss. Can we get a synopsis on this? I noticed Lherre said he was 0% hyped for the WiiU launch. Does this mean the WUST Members Trust has revoked his membership?

I mainly lurk here but I would also like to hear some discussion on this. I've always got the feeling that Lherre was never overly excited for the Wii U launch though.

What would have been if the Wii had been HD compatible at a min?

We should take the last couple of pages to talk about this topic. Everybody loves some good gossip which is what this thread was made for after all.

It's ok, in reference to all this Lherre jollop over on B3D, they are just talking about stuff he's has said on here and putting personal opinion on it. Nothing of interest.

Besides, what does it matter? Why should it influence any of us if Lherre or anyone else is not excited for the Wii U launch? If he doesn't care for the games then does that mean we shouldn't? That's for anyone to judge for themselves. Really nothing to talk about.

I'd be happy if the Wii U had the same quantity and quality of 1st and 2nd party games as the Wii, and gets similar support form third parties like the GameCube did. The GameCube satisfied all my needs last gen except for Final Fantasy X and the two KOTOR's.

Ah that sucks. Well, I mean it's good, but much like all good gossip it ends up disappointing.

For those that don't know Lherre is one of the very few verified people to have inside info without being a shameless promoter of himself. He doesn't post often.

Him souring on WiiU could have possibly implied unexpected changes or possible downgrades to the final hardware.

He sort of does, just one liners or the odd word, in broken English, which you can't really read much into. The only clear direct thing I've seen him post is when the Wii U dev kit specs were leaked the day before E3 and people were saying 'these are target specs', and he very clearly said these aren't target specs, these are the Wii U specs.

Him souring on WiiU could have possibly implied unexpected changes or possible downgrades to the final hardware.

Yeah, again, or maybe not. Mostly he doesn't give anything solid to go on, so it's probably best not to try and read into anything one way or the other.

I think it will be like Facebook wall messages, but not limited to your friends.
Maybe, but it seems that the messages pops up now and then. It will be very random to get thousands of pop up messages in a row. But, maybe some filtering is possible, only seeing messages from specific people etc.. Hopefully we will know more details about it at the 13th September conference :)

Dreamcast?
The GameCube Pre-price cut?
Vita wishes it tracked like the GameCube pre-pricecut.
I think he talks about the Vita threads before it was released, not how Vita is selling.

Heads up people

This may be significant news about the terminal range

I think we've heard about the GamePad being faster than the television. I believe Nintendo had to mimic the delay on the GamePad in order to synchronize the action.

Also, there was a quote floating around here that indicated that the GamePad would work from thirty yards away.

Yes I've talked about that as was described in patents, don't have the bookmarked post right now handy, it's like ~30 pages back.

Another thing, i've told emily rogers about the range of the WiiU Controller as reported by the impression guy who asked a nintendo rep. And while she asked for the range, didn't got the answer she hoped for but then tweeted me about it:

I don't know from where she got that it uses bluetooth since that's fairly low-range and would not be able to transfer such large data sets needed for the audio/video for the controller. It's definitely WLAN (IEEE 802.11)

You can check her twitter out, she replies at @stewox1

From what I can gather there seem to be power consumption modes for the WiiU GamePad that adjust the power of the antennas. (maybe other things such as screen brightness ..etc)

  • Class 1: Maximum Range - up to 100 meters (300ft)
  • Class 2: Medium Range - up to 50 meters (150ft)
  • Class 3: Minimum Range - up to 10 meters (30ft)

Obviously these are open area no-barrier best case scenario numbers.

Probably these modes are manually selectable by the user at any time?

But still take this as a rumor for now.

Object editor

- Object editor lets you start with any object you want
- Alter it by changing its colors, scaling or rotating its various parts, adding textures, and combining it with other objects (applied in the form of stamps)
- Once your object is actually made, you can determine its behavior with the same scripting tools that programmers use to dictate the actions of regular objects in the game
- Can program your object so it behaves in specific ways when certain events occur
- Give your object a unique name
- Write to conjure the object later
- Upload your object to an online server and share it with friends
- There will be Miiverse integration and multiple search filters to help find and share the type of objects you’re interested in

Interesting

That's the interview i was talking about emily rogers asking for range.

Don't know why people overlooked this ... what about you bgassassin?

From the spec leak on vgleaks.com:
  • Please note that the quantity of memory available from the Cafe SDK and Operating System may vary.

Retail definitively won't have the absurd 512MB OS reserve.

Have you seen the Nintendo Direct thing?

I think we've gotten a pretty good glimpse into how Miiverse works.

Those messages don't just spam you while you're playing. There is this twitter-like feed (also reminiscent of your Facebook wall) that you can call up (probably via the home button). It seems you can sort these based on your general friend-feed and game-specific feeds.

nintendo-wiinys1k.jpg

The above image seems to be your general friend chatter. The image below shows the Miiverse feed for "shooter" (which was the name for ZombiU in the Nintendo Direct video)

Then there are game-specific messages coming from Miiverse that show up in the associated game like those ZombiU notifications.

It's the brother of Wherre, and son of Therre.

Oh, sorry, i should have specified that i was only referring to the picture earlier that i quoted, where all those Miis are gathered around icons (and where one comment says "i've played almost all Metroid games"). I was wondering how that part would work regarding getting messages.

But looking at the pictures you posted, i see "Shooter". So i guess that you can click on the icon of that specific game and see all the messages in a Twitter-like interface? That would makes sense. I have seen this before, but i had forgotten about it, so thanks for mentioning it :)

yea that's probably how it works. you click on one of those games in the plaza and then you can see all the messages attached to it and, from what we heard so far, directly go to the eShop and buy it or check out related downloads. I'm speculating but that's how it would seem they're approaching this.

The messages popping up there on the main screen are probably randomized.

Is this range thing threadworthy?

Well if it is, somebody make it because I can't.

What the what!?

It's one of the 3 the biggest tech thing I was waiting for to hear the most and it's fucking awesome if true.

1. RAM capacity
2. GPU specs
3. Terminal Range & Battery capacity

Am I the only one expecting a Nintendo Direct this week? It just doesn't seem like the Nintendo of late (at least NOJ) to stray from their bimonthly ND schedule.

I'm thinking Dolphin like output, nothing too special. HDMI digital output = better IQ with better colour representation and better sound quality too over HDMI.

Exactly. What I mean though, is that small change may have made the gen play out quite differently. Especially if there was even a small increase in specs.

My take was, he was never overly excited for the Wii U launch from the beginning I may be way off on this though. Either way, I wouldn't read to much into it.

Won't the range of the Gamepad be limited by the technology it uses to send signals back to the console.

I'm assuming that the button press data will be sent across Bluetooth because of Wii Remote compatibility and Pro controller. Then the one-way AV signals over a separate higher bandwidth scheme.

I think you are :D I mean I think with TGS coming up and the conference on September 13th Nintendo just doesn't feel the need to do another Nintendo Direct right now.

The only problem with that would be that you would end up with two different ranges, one for button presses and one for AV. You would probably lose control well before you lost video signal.

You guys seem to be overly worried about games ro what? it seems, may I ask what would nintendo announce on a nintendo direct of that importance ? Isn't it a bit silly to keep whining about nintendo direct if we know 99% the date is 13 september at which we'll get to know most of the other answers which I have really no idea what on earth could be of such sheer hypeworthy except the standard price and release which are, in my opinion totally irrelevant. Please guys stop whining about the price because It really doesn't help the health of the discussion.

If nintendo direct has been skipped then the date announced, if there is a nintendo direct now there won't be anything of big significance if most of the stuff is expected on the conference. There may be a direct after the conference.

And if there is a surprise that it will be somehow important then well good. I like surprises, but I don't like to be hyping my self for some nonexistant things. Rumors make hype, not sheer imagination.

My last news point just came, it's on this page :)
(well the last is actually GPU full specs but that won't be known until after release)

Most of the other answers will come when we're closer or at the release it self when you buy and open and play the console, those answers aren't that important to me to know it prior, i leave my self for surprises as well as knowing that the major stuff that makes practical sense is okay.

And for the new thread, I stand as most of us did, make a new one in gaming for sept 13, then second or third (if this one gets full prior 13th) back in the community again.

September 13th is for NoA.
We have no clue about NoJ possible date.
Japan support is ZERO up to now.

3DS should not be forgotten just because they are launching the Wii U.

No Nintendo Direct before September 13 would mean: no 3ds news, no pre-TGS japanese-oriented updates/reveals for both 3ds-wiiu

Honestly, September 13th conf give me zero hype or interest, for the moment.
I would like to see some 3ds update, some Japanese wiiu announcments and so on...

Let's be bold and put it on Gaming !

But then lots of regulars would probably get banned (some already have recently from Gaming threads) before the Sept. 13 conference. Still think the next one should go in Community (for safety reasons) and then a new one get put up on Sept. 13 with (presumably) actual confirmed information to discuss.

No. TGS starts Sept. 20th this year, so still plenty of time for a pre-TGS specific something (conference or, more likely, Nintendo Direct with 3DS stuff) if Sept. 13th's is all for Wii U.

What are you talking about? It is almost guaranteed that the 9/13 event in Japan will be the Wii U software blowout.
