Sumo: Wii U specs are surprising; "way more memory" than PS3/360

I believe if you read the quotes, it's very ambiguous. It says it's "Power-based" and that it "contains Power7 technology", iirc. It does say "all-new" but even then to have a tri-core, it would have to be considered "all-new", right?

At any rate, I don't think we'll know anything for sure, until someone tears one down but it's fun to speculate.

To me all-new means ALL-NEW. Not just three old things put together to make one thing. Besides, I think it would have to be 3 full Broadway processors not just 3 broadway cores. They were not designed to be multi-core cpus. So we could have 3 cores redesigned to be multi-core and then further enhanced and then shrunk down to a process it was never designed to be on (45nm) and the whole time being further customized for nintendos needs. But its still just an enhanced Broadway right?

That reads like BS. Being clocked close to the Wii and having performance akin to Xenon reads as foolhardy.

How come Dead Rising, which was ported to the Wii, did not have anywhere as much as 500 zombies, the original did? Now remember, it's been confirmed Wii U can handle over twice that number, and with greater ease.

The GPU probably reached the limit before the CPU.

Actually, people are just still speculating. Arkam did read "enhanced Broadway" or "based on Broadway" ? So ? It could mean anything. But it's not clearly saying "3 broadway ductaped in one Tri Core CPU"
Nintendo could use the term Broadway because of similar technologies, like the CPU being Out of Order or anything else.

So the GPU is a bottleneck? That's the first I heard such a thing for Wii.

Edit: Mah maths was wrong. Dead Rising has 800 Zombies. The Wii version has 100. That's an 80% reduction in Zombies.

How big of a bottleneck could this be?!?! Nintendo would have been wasting 2 generations of Gekko's/Flipper's potential if true.

Also, the first Dead Rising didn't push the 360. The second game has 7,000 Zombies.

I'm not understanding your point here and how it relates to my reply to bg.

I didn't notice that BG was also using forums as a sample to support his point about people not noticing the difference between tech and art. I think forums are a really bad metric to use for measuring any sort of public perception because they have a high selection bias. Thus Neogaf represents nothing except neogaf. I was attempting to call you out for using that point ,but BG used the same metric and my argument was moot. It was my fault for reading and posting from my phone.

If people in here literally think it's 3 Broadway's taped together then they aren't going to care about the nuance of Out of Order or anything like that. This is basically the earlier parts of this thread:

Custom chip that is made from parts that are evolved from Broadway or allow for similar = crazy talk and speculation

3 Wii CPUs soldered together even though that isn't physically possible = verified fact

I don't think so, Tim. A very small % of forumers who saw Samaritan and the other demos/games "couldn't separate the art from the tech" and weren't impressed. Go read the threads. You'll also notice one other common trait amongst most (not all) of these people who didn't notice much of a difference: they're Nintendudes (can I trademark this term?). The guy who posted in this thread saying as much, Snowden's Secret, is a Nintendude. Someone had to say it. I'm tired of beating around the bush. Every one of these graphics threads is filled with people with hidden agendas and not-so-obvious biases but rarely do people mention it.

should use Nintendawgs instead.

So how much enhancing and customization does something have to to have before it becomes something new? You could say that every processor is based off anything before it.

Yep, but maybe Nintendo used the term enhanced Broadway because of similarities, but also because they can explain what kind of CPU it is, without giving too much details.

We don't know and Arkam hasn't given more details about what the context of "enhanced broadway" means. There's not a whole lot of details from any side, which makes all this kind of funny.

I find all these gendered terms bad. We have a verified female Nintendo fan on the board and he goes for the male exclusive term. At least Nintenthings is a bit more gender inclusive.

9 pages of the same recycled disscussion that took place since (if memory serves right) april 2011.

I'm anceously awaiting the disscussions that will araise for the other platforms. My bet is that they will be more down to earth and reasonable.

probably fooling myself thought

No they dont. The casuals which make up the larger body of people buying and playing games are the ones who sustain the industry. There are more joe blow average casual gamer than there are hardcore gamers.

Hardware isn't all there is in this industry, what matters is software. Most casuals buy a couple games at most for a console, I know lots of people who got a Wii with Wii Sports and didn't even buy another game. Hardcore gamers usually buy lots of games for their machines.

Well somebody must have bought all those copies of Wii Fit, Wii Party, Mario Party, Wii Sports Resort, Warioware, Rabbids (all 5 of them), Just Dance (4 games) etc etc.

I think it's best to read "Enhanced Broadway" in its literal sense. Those words come from Nintendo themselves and given to Developers, there's no reason for them to play with words like PR guys. I mean, there really is no good reason not to give out details to people that needs them and besides Devs are most likely under a NDA.

So, I read that as Broadway architecture with added features.

This is so far from the truth. Unless you think soccer moms are the ones that are buying nba 2k12 every month.

Well not necessarily soccer moms but I wouldn't argue that the majority of sports games are sold to casual gamers. Sports are one of the most casual-friendly sells since there are already millions of sports fans.
