SEPTEMBER 5, 2012
—Fans of the Valkyria Chronicles series of artbooks—we’ve been listening! For months you’ve been begging, pleading, and demanding the release of the third and final artworks collection based on SEGA’s critically acclaimed Valkyria Chronicles tactical RPG series… well the wait is over! Today UDON Entertainment officially announces the December 2012 release of the complete, English-language localized version of Valkyria Chronicles 3: Complete Artworks.

Completing the series of amazing artbooks that began with the UDON releases of Valkyria Chronicles: Design Archive and Valkyria Chronicles 2: World Artworks, this third entry in the series also features a wealth of amazing illustrations by lead character designer and famed illustrator Raita Honjou! Chock-full of character designs and profiles, vehicle and weapon designs, promotional art, and tons of creator commentary and long-form interviews, this is one spectacular collection!

Perhaps most importantly to hardcore Valkyria Chronicles game fans, Valkyria Chronicles 3: Complete Artworks features a thorough story summary of the game, which is unreleased in English. Valkyria Chronicles 3 is a side-story to the first game in the series, making it a unique entry but also allowing cameos and crossover appearances by characters from the first two games, including Welkin Gunther, Alica Melchiott, Avan Hardins, and more! While there are no plans (that UDON knows of) to localise the game for English-speaking and reading fans,Valkyria Chronicles 3: Complete Artworks a great way to experience and enjoy the vast story of the game!

“The Valkyria Chronicles artbooks have been blockbusters for UDON,” said UDON Entertainment Marketing Director Chris Butcher. “The Books are gorgeous and incredibly thorough, mixing illustration art with technical military-style drawings, and a complex story. I’m so happy we could work with our licensing partners to bring out the third volume. This one is definitely for the fans!”

Valkyria Chronicles 3: Complete Artworks will arrive in comic book stores and wherever books are sold in December, 2012.

KEY FEATURES:
The Valkyria Chronicles series is a critically acclaimed tactical RPG video game for the Sony PlayStation® PS3™ and PSP®, with a very dedicated fan base, and has sold over 1.7 million copies worldwide.
Valkyria Chronicles 3 was released exclusively in Japan, and so, the info in this art book finally gives North American fans a chance to enjoy the continuation of the story.
Valkyria 3 takes place as a side story to the first game, so there are cameos from many popular characters of the first two games (including Welkin Gunther, Alica Melchiott, Avan Hardins, and more).

Book Description

Valkyria Chronicles 3: Complete Artworks includes story summaries, character designs & profiles, vehicle and weapon designs, and promotional art, all accompanied by creator commentary and interviews. Seems a bit strange that the book is being released despite the fact there are no current plans for a Western release of the game, but hey I love the series and I love these kinds of art books, so I won't complain. Pre-ordered!

After watching the OVA, I still like how every girl has giant breasts. Now you can have that experience in book form!

Also, fuck you Sega. Bring the game over already. :p

Only played Valkiria Chronicles on PS3 but what's up with the design? Seems like a mix of Nomura Before Crisis/Dissidia style with a little of Monster Hunter into it.

Has anyone taken a peek at the original book yet? Is it the encyclopedia that the first one was?

It's like a shot to the heart. Here's all the gorgeous art of a game you can't play!
And the soundtrack has been on sale on iTunes for some time now (though I'm pretty sure that was the record label's doing, not Sega's).

If I buy this...they'd have to make a new PS3 game, right?
I mean, how stupid would it be to make a game engine and not put out a second game for it.

(Fool me once...)

Oooh sweet. Way cheaper than importing the book from Amazon Japan. Now to wait for the artbook to show up on Amazon UK. Which also reminds that I need to order the Valkyria Chronicles 2: Complete Artworks.

Due to the PSP/3DS localization situation I've mostly experienced gaming through looking at official art from games I'll never get to play for the past couple of years anyway, so this is no different.

Will buy, will cry.

After 2 why would you want a 3? No I don't want a rehash of 1, Gallia was great the first time but I want a new setting. Hear me out, a new country.

Still think the first one was the best ps3 exclusive by a wide margin.

Such a shame the 2nd one on psp fell into the anime tropes way too hard.

I know the game gets knocked really hard for that, but I still think that in terms of gameplay, VC2 was better.

VC1 was an absolutely amazing game, though, all around.

Will get for sure.

This is also not the first time, UDON is bringing an unlocalized SEGA game artbook over. They just released one for Shining Force Feather that was on the DS and never brought and they have plans for the Rick's Bread Shining Hearts artbook as well.

Day One....Just realized I have 10 artbooks preordered on amazon a lot of good stuff coming out this fall.

Agreed. The first game found just the right balance in its design. It was certainly anime influenced, but not obnoxious about it.

Hrm...you're right, I remember seeing the book, but wasn't aware that the game was unreleased in the West.
