P.S. Is Square Enix trying to canonically make Lightning the strongest character ever in teh Final Fantasies?

I would not be shocked at all if they made her a Superboss in new FF games or new ports. They love her so damn much and they'll put her in more things to make you love her as much as Toriyama loves her, dammit. ;____;

Like I said, I personally think the Mage paradigm is completely useless (for the initial Caius fight). Yeah you can ATB cancel between them, but the time and effort spent doing so is left the same as just re-filling Shaman normally, and it's actually handy to have the refresh ready in case you need to switch to Knight.

Legion of One (V.Lightning's Feral Link) actually does quite a bit of damage because she's built as a COM and not a RAV, so I don't use it to build up the stagger. Instead, I normally raise it up to ~500% and then swap to Knight. It's possible to raise him much higher at higher levels, but I'm mostly talking low level strategies. And like I said, I try to time to stagger for when he hits Medic stance, so he never heals or buffs himself, and actually use Legion of One when the Stagger is about to run out to take out a nice chunk of his health.

Knight only has one ability which is Immortality. The stance is pretty much just like Steelguard, only Lightning has to stop and re-start it in between castings. She reduces damage like normal in it, but she only fully blocks damage when she's in the actual block stance. The only way to actually heal is via Legion of One and Items.

Yeah, the Mage paradigm seems unneeded. Don't know why they split a level up from Rav into different paradigms at all. Does Caius seem to have a pattern for when he switches up to Healer Stance? Because that way, the fight might be a little more formulaic.

I suspect if you brought it up to 999%, the fight might be easier than they intended for you. For some reason I assumed that if you're fighting at a higher level for V. Lightning that Caius scales with you and it's harder to beat him on a higher level. I guess the lower level fights are harder... >.>

And Knight seems like a good paradigm. I don't think they'll use it in Lightning Returns (or any of the paradigms for that matter unless it's affected by her equipped weapons) since blocking and dodging is a twitch-based system now.

why is there more after this? this game won't end. Still more fighting. (They're going about the Bahamut fight all wrong, huh? (They know there's a Repeat command in Ability, right? D) Do you know what annoys me, though? Lightning has to animate a pose while she Optima Changes. There is no reason for that. It's asinine and it slows things down, especially if you've ATB cancelled/finished your attack group. It's like they gave her the same animations from FFXIII.

20 years of Sonic was kinda fun to watch, though (For the uninitiated, this is what we're talking about.). Even the Sonic and the Black Knight / Sonic 2006 parts.

You can't make an LP about Final Fantasy XIII-2 fun because there's less variety in the game in comparison. With the FF13 games you're gonna see battle after battle after battle after battle after battle.

You can comfortably 5 star RoTG at level 5, and takes about 30 mins from level 1 to finish.

Haven't seen that video but considering they do not have a good understanding of the battle system, no point in wasting time. I still would love to see them try to beat Gilgamesh though.

IT'S FINALLY DONE. That was the worst thing ever, with regards to the content. How much did they charge for this? why square-enix why

I love KFJ's meltdown towards the 33% bit with regards to the achievements, lol. The two achievements they were missing are the "ride a chocobo for a while" (what I did was that I used an elastic band on my controller and let the game sit for a while), and the dumbass casino one that pissed me the hell off in the OT because it's a piece of shit and why the fuck would you put the shittiest slots in the world in the game or make you make a chocobo build for this shit, seriously. Even with the FFXIII save it doesn't help. If it wasn't for that casino trophy, I would've finished my platinum so much earlier.

Anyway, I haven't seen the ending of this in English before, so...

Ali Hillis cannot do anime groans in the slightest, lol. But to be honest, I prefer the Japanese seiyuu over her. This dialogue. Just wow, who wrote this shit? Lightning crying over Serah was so disingenuous. Everything about their sisterly relationship is unconvincing. Everyone starts their journey aomehow as a result of Lightning. Skip everything about Act 2 - Powerhard and I imagine that things would be okay... That's the kind of stuff I don't like about RPG LPs in general.

I enjoyed the bickering, but the problem is the content. It's just not a fun game to watch.

Well, the thing about the game in terms of providing entertainment via an LP is that the majority of it is battles and trekking through stuff. For a genre that emphasizes story, there's a lot to riff on, but there such a space between things to riff on in this game. The battle system might look shiny and pretty and the animations look cool, but compare that to stuff like this (shamelessly stealing from the FF anniversary thread):

Battles just aren't fun to watch in this situation. Especially since they aren't fighting them very well (and there are so many of them). They may have a lot of strategy discussion, but they aren't fun to watch from an entertainment perspective.

Battles at least had some quirk back then.

Also, the casino sucks. It's poop.

Hmmm... I'm not sure. You could always e-mail PA and ask if they've tested it themselves (they likely will since they're based in Hong Kong). Don't pay for it yet because they might not cancel it.

You should probably forward your question to the Lightning Returns thread or the Final Fantasy Community Thread for a larger pool of people to answer the question.

If you're going to get a new PS3 soon and can afford it and are going to play other games on it besides FFXIII-2, I'd probably wait because the region-free thing might save you from a bunch of headaches.

I think you misunderstood, I actually agree with you! I'm saying that the LP could have been better if they just tried to beat the game instead of getting all the fragments or all the monsters, since it would just let them riff on the plot consistently rather than having entire hour long episodes where nothing happens, more so when they weren't really having fun with the game. The DLC episodes for XIII-2 weren't very interesting because they were going through them out of "obligation" rather than genuinely wanting to beat the DLC.

Pretty sure you can, just like you can fight all of the DLC bosses the moment you first leave New Bodhum (where the DLC Colosseum pops up). Though I'm not entirely sure since all the DLC came out (sans Omega) after I'd beaten the game.

We're using one computer to capture the sound through the mic using Soundbooth, the wii through the HDPVR using Arcsoft capture, and one of the gamecubes through a kworld using Xsplit.
This computer is also outputting to a monitor that medibot uses to see his screen.
The other computer captures the remaining three gamecubes through three kworlds using Xsplit. One instance of Xsplit on this computer captures all three as different cameras, and creates one file that is all three screens together. This computer outputs to a monitor that pokecapn, Kung Fu Jesus and myself use to see our GBA screens.

Why not just use one Xsplit and have all four there?

For one, it would require we all sit uncomfortably close together to all see. For another, more real reason, we all bought our kworlds at different times, and it is a shitty chinese DVD piracy device. So the customer support doesn't exist and the manuals are in engrish or simplified Chinese. This gets in the way of our troubleshooting, the trouble being that no computer can see all four of these devices together. We can make any computer see any combination of the newer three, and any computer can see the older one, but as soon as one new and one old are connected, each stops displaying. It's weird and what we have is a work-around.

Now it is time to reveal some of the dirty secrets of modern consoles. Let's compare this effort to the one we just finished, that used the 360.

We're still running one of the same computers, the same hdpvr, the same television, and the same mic with amp.

With the gigaquad, we are less one 360, plus one wii, plus four gamecubes with gameboy player attachments, and plus one computer and monitor, and plus four kworld sd capture devices.

I'm not going to count the computer and monitor because I think those were on in another room of the house during the last let's play anyway. So those are both neutral to this question.

And with the kworlds, I couldn't find anything about power consumption and they draw from usb. It is a missing figure, sure, but a small one.

So really the comparison is between five nintendo consoles and one xbox, which shakes out like so:

          xbox: 118.8
gigaquad total: 111.6
=====================
wii: 16.4
gamecube: 23*4 = 92
GB player: 0.8*4 = 3.2

I'd like to cast a vote for the LP group formerly known as Tipping Forties. They were mainly known for drinking heavily while playing through games and this came to a head during their Goldeneye LP (where they take turns playing while following conditions set by viewers such as always walk backwards, say an appropriate one liner after every kill etc and the player has to drink every time they can't or don't follow a condition) and Tales of Symphonia (where viewers would suggest words that everyone would have to take a drink when the characters say, this resulted in some guy in the thread playing the game ahead of them to pick the words that would come up most in order to destroy them). But they aren't just about drinking, they just generally have fun playing through games unless it is Final Fantasy or Fable in which case they start off okay then slowly hate the game and it's funny to see them suffer.
They also did Mario Party before Pokecapn made it cool.

They stopped doing LPs as a group recently and aren't called Tipping Forties any more, but Kuvo and Topikal from the group are continuing LPs and are doing a Deus Ex: Human Revolution (SA thread here, Youtube account here) one right now that still stands up to the standards of the previous LPs and probably has way more work put into it since now they actually show off all the stuff they miss as well as having a fun time. Aside from that, if anyone was to watch an old LP of theirs I'd probably suggest New Super Mario Bros Wii, Fallout New Vegas or LittleBigPlanet 2.
