Valve PR: First 10 titles get steam greenlight (incl Black Mesa)

Just got PR:
FIRST TITLES GET STEAM'S GREENLIGHT

Launch Set of 10 Coming to Steam Soon

September 11, 2012 -- Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the first set of titles submitted through Steam Greenlight have earned critical mass and been picked up for worldwide distribution.

The first set of titles to launch via Greenlight will be released independently in the months ahead (as they are varying stages of completion).

"The Steam community rallied around these titles and made them the clear choice for the first set of titles to launch out of Greenlight," said Anna Sweet of Valve. "Since launch, hundreds of titles have been submitted, with more coming in every day. We expect to be announcing more titles coming to Steam via Greenlight soon."

The first 10 titles coming to Steam from Greenlight are:

· Black Mesa

· Cry of Fear

· Dream

· Heroes & Generals

· Kenshi

· McPixel

· No More Room in Hell

· Project Zomboid

· Routine

· Towns

Steam Greenlight is a new platform feature that enlists the community's help in selecting some of the next games to be released on Steam. Launched on August 30, Greenlight allows developers and publishers to post information and media about their game in an effort to convince Community members that their game should be released on Steam.

Project Zomboid?

Wasn't there a whole mess of stuff surrounding that? Scammy business, a robbery that left them without any code, no backups, etc? Was that them?

I voted for a few of those. Project Zomboid is the one that excites me the most, here's hoping it plays half as good as it sounds on paper. Routine is very promising too, I'll have to look up some of the others.

Wow half of these games I wanted to be greenlit. Not that I had no interest in the other, I might just not have voted for them at all.

I haven't been paying attention to how well the games are doing so I'm surprised McPixel succeeded this quickly. Happy about it, though!

Kinda crazy that Mutant Mudds isn't getting votes. Thought that would be a lock for sure since it was one of the catalysts for Greenlight in the first place.

Wow, there's some crap in that list.

Edit: Not to be a Negative Nancy. Very glad a few of those succeeded so quickly.

I will buy Routine so hard when it's done. Hopefully Heroes & Generals turns out well, it's played well the few times I've tried it out.

Does a steam release also mean that there's a sort of quality assurance?

Project Zomboids demo was great but it needs a lot of polishing.

Now I expect Steam style release discounts for those that voted on the successful games.
And for the sake of social justice, those that voted against the greenlit games have to pay an additional amount equal to the discount.

Excited for Black Mesa. Been waiting years for a release. While I don't agree with the development history, I'm excited to see what the years of development culminate into before Source 2 is released and their opportunity is blown.

I don't know anything about the remaining titles, but I'm eager to hear GAF opinions and see the respective games on Steam.

Glad Routine made it, and I didn't even take the time to look at Heroes & Generals until now - looks amazing.

I really hope NeoTokyo makes it on there next.

No I think it was always mend to be a free mod, and I agree even if they wanted to I think they can't sell it because of Valve owns the rights to everything in the mod.

I would of thought mods would get a free pass on Steam. They don't cost anything and only gets the younger players who haven't played the first game.
