Weekend Confirmed Episode Whimsy | Let's All Love Loving Things

This was one of the better episodes of recent months. I'd been a little down on WC lately but this episode kinda made me care more about the show. It was good because Garnett led the discussion on well, Sessler is more interesting when he's just himself rather than creating a drama for his soap box. Yun was a good switch up for Mattas (love both, would like to see more of them). Good show overall and Burch was a good guest. I wasn't sure it was him at first but then he mentioned his sister. Bit OTT with the whole "@2kgames @borderlandsgame thanks to 2K for this opportunity." You shouldn't have to thank them so much, you're doing them a favour.

Pretty hyped for B2 as a result, hadn't played B but I think I'm going to have to get it.

Fantastic episode, Blayzer! The Sess is such a smart guy, and there's great chemistry on the show, is there any chance of Adam being a more permanent fixture on show? Wishful thinking, I know, but he really elevates the level of discourse, in my opinion.

Did you actually expect his accent to change in the last couple of months or are you just being a prick?

Some people who don't socialize with the wider world very much have lots of trouble understanding that perfectly fine individuals sometimes talk a little differently that some other people.

One of the best episodes for me in a while. Sessler and Yoon are always great guests and Anthony Burch was fantastic. He's always great on podcasts, so no surprise there.

But Garnett, I was disappointed in your Niners pick :p We're looking mighty fine right now. Our defense is so nasty, especially the front 7. Can't sleep on 'em.

These guys don't like flying helicopters in open world games? And they would rather the player character die when they touch water rather than be able to swim?

Did I somehow wander into the Negative Zone?

Finished. Good episode. Although it was funny listening to the Borderlands stuff. I'm glad they've gone a bit further with the details as the original had next to nothing in the plot department.

Also, the sess rocks out.

edit- Also, yeah, the just let me die when I hit water comment was lol. I like to do stunts and if my stunt goes awry in the ocean I don't want my character to die.

Helicopters (or aerial vehicles) in open world games render the world insignificant. Why drive when you can fly? When I got helicopter access in Saint's Row the Third I spent most of my time flying to destinations meaning the work put into making the world pretty was wasted. I would only be on the ground for minigames and missions (and fucking around).

Well as a player of the game that's a decision you choose to make. I liked helicopters in the Saints Row games but I still drove quite a bit too.

Fair enough but the fact is it's in there and some people will use it. Sometimes you gotta force a player to do something before they appreciate it, and that's a lot harder in video games where a player will do what he thinks is fun.

Well I think they were complaining mostly about how helicopters and swimming controlled, but it's hard to say since they just agreed with each other and then moved on. I was left scratching my head I must say.

Oh cool, did not know that. Thanks

Scooter and skip are criminally under rated by the GAF podcast listening population.

I like the Cheap Ass Gamer podcast (CAGcast) but it's on hiatus right now. Should be back on in a week or two.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/podcast.php?podcastid=1

The Player One Podcast is also very good.

http://www.playeronepodcast.com/

Also, try Gamers with Jobs Conference Call.

http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/podcast

Give them a listen and see if you like them.
Thanks for the list. Never heard Player one, so jumping on them now.

CAGcast ain't for me. No idea why, maybe a bad episode or something, but got completely turned off by it.

Will try GWJ aswell.

Quarter to Three. I know of the forum, didn't know it had a Podcast!

Honestly I skipped last week's show but this week's show was excellent. Good guests and the show moved at a good pace. Sessler's always great to listen to. Anthony Burch and Andrew Yoon were also great on the show.

For me if either Sessler or Yoon were permanent fourth chairs I would have no problem at all.

Wasn't keen on this episode myself. I'm not keen on any podcasts that have a guest on to basically use it as a chance to pimp their game for half an hour or so. And Anthony Burch is someone I've not been keen on at all since someone pointed me in the direction of those rev rants shows.

Hadn't listened for awhile but caught last Friday's episode. When first starting Weekend Confirmed didn't Garnett specifically say he wasn't interested in having developers on the show to ask them how awesome their games were?

It seemed like in this episode they were trying for the world record in how many different ways they could ask "How awesome is your game?"

It's not unusual for the industry, but I just thought it was funny because it so conflicted with what I recall his earlier sentiments were.

Always enjoy Sessler as a guest though.

Holy shit at all that Nintendo indifference and apathy. It is hard to take them seriously.

The Wii U talk was very boring and low energy. I can understand why they aren't interested but the whole segment just made me miss 1up Yours during the previous round of console launches. Hopefully the excitement begins to flow with the PS4/720

Surgeon general? Garnett, you doofus.

I have to say, I agree with just about everything they said about the Wii U. There is absolutely nothing that makes me want to lay down cash for a pre-order. And I've bought every Nintendo platform at launch since...what...N64?

It's going to fly off shelves in Japan, no doubt. Not sure about outside that region.

The Wii U talk was depressing.

I can maybe understand the criticism that the Wii U doesn't have any standout titles at launch, but likening the Wii U's lineup to that of the 3DS launch lineup is straight up bonkers. NSMBU, at least, looks a thousand times more polished than anything the 3DS had.

I could understand not being amped for the Wii U for whatever reason, but comparing its storage unfavorably to the 360 is asinine.

There are plenty of legitimate complaints you could make about the system, but I'm hearing very few of them as this segment goes on.

I'm not super interested in the Wii U, but the discussion on Weekend Confirmed was still extremely frustrating.

It only comes with the one tablet - so what? Every single console ever released in the past 10 years at least has only come with one controller. The Wii launched as the "family device" and it only came with one controller. The 360 is heavily advertised as being "couch friendly" and it only comes with one controller.

But with the Wii U it's even more blatantly obvious that it should come with one controller - the vast majority of customers will already have at least one controller to use, so why should Nintendo waste resources and include something extra that most people probably don't need? It saves on their costs, which they really need right now, and it avoids unnecessary waste that customers literally don't need at all.

And seriously? You're complaining about DVD and BluRay playback? What is this, the year 2005? Who the hell is watching optical media these days who doesn't already have a billion devices that can play them? Why the heck would Nintendo waste tens of dollars per device sold on licensing codecs that probably less than 1% of their userbase even cares about?

Nintendo is focusing heavily on streaming services instead, and it's absolutely the right move to make compared to playing back optical media.

Decided to download this cuz I heard it was pretty bad.

Right off the bat: "why would you want to fragment your market with 2 skus?"

How the fuck do these SKUs fragment the market?

If you're going into this podcast expecting any kind of decent discussion regarding
non-iOS
handhelds or Nintendo consoles, you're just kidding yourself.

This has popped up a lot. The most important difference is the Wii is ready to be burred. The DS was alive and kicking at the time and that's a bit of a problem. They completely miss this on the podcast.

They are about as similar as separate SKUs can be.

Nintendo is fairly confident households looking for a new consoles will like the bundle. Many a people would of or did hand over $300+ to get a Wii around the holidays in 2006.

The $299 is for the more skeptical individual. That person needs convincing. Nintendo is hoping some game around launch can do it. Zombie U, Pikmin 3 or maybe something else.

That person stuck with only the option of a bundle might pass up the extra money cost in the bundle cause they have no interest in Nintendo Land.

You're dealing with "game journalists" they don't think before they speak.

That was a terrible episode. I think Nintendo should circumvent the traditional games media as much as possible. The apathy that they show Nintendo should be returned in kind.

Did you know Halo invented the FPS?
Damn I wish I had a drink while listening to the Wii U segment. It was a debbie downer on literally the whole discussion and had to tune out

This is what happens when people evaluate products based on what a mythical invented audience may want.

Anyone who wants a Blu-Ray or DVD player has one. The Wii-U not playing video discs is no more relevant than it not making toast.

Andrea gave a pretty specific example with her father. Heck, my sister is buying her kids a PS3 this week over an Xbox 360 specifically because of BluRay and free Netflix.

I would say no bluray is a big deal for a couple of reasons.

1) Nintendo isn't just trying to sell the WiiU to people who already have a PS3 or 360. They want to sell it to people who only have a Wii or nothing.

2) The device isn't necessarily going to be hooked up to the same TV as the Bluray player in the house if the house has one.

3) Their all in one place App that goes through all the TV and Movie sources you subscribe to but it doesn't work with your physical collection? That makes absolutely no sense.

Anyway, I haven't listened to the podcast yet, but if they complained about COD and AC3 ports that's just dumb. Having those games at or very near launch is exactly what Nintendo should be getting. Go nuts complaining about last years leftovers like Batman Trine 2 and but same day releases?

It does seem like they are selling solely to wii users atm. And it's not like wii could play dvd before, so it's not really a feature folks would feel lacking.

And isn't using your ps3 as a bluray player or ps2 as a dvd player terrible for the drive?

Or was that launch woes?

Oh god, I need to listen to the episode. I heard Garnett's latest ShackNews daily a couple of days ago and he was sarcastic as hell about Wii U (And sounded like a troll). "Comes with an HDMI cable. Welcome to the 21st century Nintendo."

I'm not super interested in the Wii U, but the discussion on Weekend Confirmed was still extremely frustrating.

They really complained about that? How many consoles come with more than one fucking controller let alone a touch screen one. I've listened to Garnett's shows for years and years and his (And pretty much the Jeffs too) anti-Nintendo stance is starting to grate on me. I'm ready to start skipping the show completely if it doesn't change.

They sound like petty, offended school children and not professional game media.
