How can you speak with any authority on what iOS is/isn't when you don't even know that iPhone comes with an app that allows you to do all that stuff?
There is pinch to zoom in email. Go to the email app. Put in your gmail log in. Pinch to zoom to your heart's content.
He means purchasing music through a third-party, not iTunes.
But no, IIRC iTunes is the only way to add music to the library.

Oh, as to put music on there without a PC that was not purchased through iTunes?
I am not sure if that works, but I doubt it, except with iTunes match.
You can do it on the phone itself. You don't need to use iTunes at all.
If you're talking about loading your own non-iTunes music onto the phone there are other ways to do it without iTunes, but for that select case, iTunes isn't really that bad to use. You can simply drag folders from Explorer directly onto your phone within iTunes and it adds the files. You don't really need to USE any functions of iTunes to achieve this.
You still have to use the iTunes service, though (I assume that's what he meant).
Uhh, yeah, but the service works very well on the phone itself. I thought people were complaining about the program itself (on the PC) not the service (which is pretty great).

If you don't know that iPhone comes with a built in app for music / movies then you obviously haven't used it an iOS device much, if at all.
Nice attempt to turn it around though.
I think the problem still is being tied to i-Tunes for putting songs on your phone (at least that's what I observed from this conversation).
Heh, man when most people say they hate iTunes, I get they striking feeling they mean that they hate iTunes. Not a piece of it, not a part of it, not just the program, and not just the service, but the entirety of it.
We could fill the grand canyon with the number of inaccuracies and incorrect notions, assumptions and misunderstandings people in these threads have about Android and some of its functionality. Lets not be ridiculous and bawk at people in these threads actually asking for accurate information on these things so that they can then use it to birth an informed opinion....

Second, I never claimed to be an authority or speak as such, when it comes to iOS. All I can do is speak on personal experience bases on the few months I've had with my iPad and played with my father's phone.
Third, when I asked the name of the app, I was expecting him to say, "iTunes" which leads to...
Really, this whole conversation started because I was being a pedantic smartass and asking dark how you would purchase this stuff if "iTunes" isn't necessary.
Edit: sorry cipherr, it really wasn't to get an informed opinion. I was kind of baiting a bit.
Though I will say, I'd rather never have to deal with iTunes for anything, it really isn't as intrusive as it used to be if you use the phone or tablet a certain way.

Lol? What was the GS3 to the GS2? Don't innovate or revolutionize? I remember Samsung adding S-Voice shortly after Siri was announced. I remember Samsung adding a front facing camera as standard after Facetime was announced. I remember Samsung making a full capacitive touch screen phone that didn't look like complete garbage after iPhone was announced. I remember Samsung using Touchwiz to mimic a lot of iOS. Get over it.
Honestly why do you think that attacking Samsung means an attack on the Android platform as a whole? The poster could despise Samsung as much as you and yet still be part of the Android ecosystem.
Oh and S3 has a lot of gimmicky features that no other samsung phone has (to make the s3 look better, of course) whereas iPhone5 does not have a single software feature not available to the 4S, so the incentive to upgrade is smaller (after all if you wanted LTE or a bigger screen why didn't you just buy a phone with those already since they were on the market for the past year at least). As such iPhone5 actually has nothing Android OEMs will look at and think 'damn why didn't we think of that' which is certainly a first when it comes to iPhone launches (in fact iPhone 5 seems more like a catch-up device for Apple)
Something like CopyTrans Manager works for me. I use it at work to add music when I'm not at my home computer.
I think file browsers work as well.
Neither require a jailbroken phone or really any effort. CopyTrans is a portable application so you can run it from anywhere and it will detect your phone on any machine. It's a free solution, but I'm sure there are others as well.
I hope they announce a Nexus Note before the end of this year
or just have a nexus phone(s) that is 5.5"-6"s

my reason behind it is once you go bigger like say a Nexus 7 @ 7" it's hard to go back to my Galaxy Nexus even though it's mostly for on the go these days.
and my nexus 7 is not exactly portable LTE and data wise
sure I can tether my phone to it but I rather just have one device when mobile.
and a 5.5"-6" or more phone would be fucking sweet, fit more internet on the screen

That's not the point. I was responding to his ignorant comment. Most iterations of new phones are basically that. Bigger screen and spec bumps aside from a rare few. The 5 has a few features that the 4s doesnt including face detection, taking still shots while shooting video, the apps improved for the new real estate much like the ipad just not as substantial. I doubt anyone really bought the S3 for those gimmicky features and probably will lose all of them installing custom roms anyway. People don't buy another phone with LTE and bigger screen for the same reason you probably don't buy an iPhone for its aesthetics and features. Unless its the marginal amount of people looking to switch their OS, most are invested or just love what they have. I made the mistake of changing to the Galaxy Nexus and absolutely hate it. Not everyone wants an Android device just because it has a bigger screen or LTE. Likewise for people who don't want an iOS device.
Don't know if I care much for a spec bump at this point. The GPU in the gnex is still more than capable (handles 720p JB and 720p gaming just fine) and its not like mobile gaming budgets have skyrocketed (least not on android).
The CPU is crazy fast (turn off transition animations and watch how fast an app will load or multitask).

Soc with an integrated lte radio would be nice on the battery too.
Really, I just want more optimization to Android and MUCH more improved integration with comm services. Also, build picture cloud storage directly into the OS instead of gplus. Last, app/game cloud storage as well.

I would probably buy an updated Gnex if it looked exactly the same, lol (even if that meant jumping verizon) Only if:
- The radio was MUCH improved (most important feature as this affects the battery life and connection quality)
- The camera was improved to at least near GS3 quality
- At least running a dual-core krait (very efficient)
- At least shipping with a 2100mAH battery (2300+ would be awesome though, Razr HD has a 2500mAH)
I don't mind this one as much, but a better screen would be also welcome, preferably non-pentile and 1 mm thinner just because, but I doubt that would happen.
At that point, this would be the perfect phone for me for the next 2 years until Intel comes out with their processors and shits on everyone.

Heh, well, battery technology seems to be one thing that's not seeing dramatic improvements each year. That's the one thing that seems impossible within a short period of time.
The massive increases in SoC efficiency more than make up for it IMO. Snapdragon S1 and S4 are only 4 years apart, but the S4 is 6-8x more powerful while consuming the same amount of power.
oh idk about that, stuff like LTE still sucks out battery life like a vampire bat out of hell on crack...

Unfortunately, screens are getting bigger, and more ish is finding it's way into our phones. Keeping to the same battery life isn't appealing, I want a phone i can use heavy and have last for days.

Entirely depends how they benchmarked really.
If they considered it exactly the same load (bytes downloaded) as 3G browsing then it would spend significantly less time connected and as such having the same battery life wouldn't be massively surprising. However, if they take into account that you'd be able to download more because you'd spend less time waiting then I really doubt you'd get the same battery life.
Lol my Gnex literally lasts around 2-3 hours with mild use. Got the official extended battery and it still blows. I'm really hoping the iPhone lives up to those numbers.

Well, of course, but even 5-6 hours on LTE would still be pretty damn nice.
I have yet to meet a battery number from Apple that wasn't either accurate or lowballed.

S3, new razrs, and the one x have already shown that good battery life and lte are possible. Even with ginormous oled displays.
Yeah I was satisfied with my iPhone 4 battery life. Heard some not so great things about the 4S but I heard it was patched? It's sad that I have to put forth an effort to try and NOT use my phone to get through the day lol.

yeah, the gnex and many older devices have bad battery life on LTE , despite good Wifi and 3G battery life. newer devices with newer LTE radios are doing much better.

AFAIK you needed to install iTunes at least once to get CopyTrans to actually work with your device.. Unless they recently changed that requirement.
Not sure how Apple matches the 3300mAh beast in the Razr Maxx but that would be sweet as hell.
