Sure! I'll check with the post office tomorrow, but iirc, its not too different in rates than domestic. It just takes longer. Puerto Rico, right?

Uruguay!, close enough
(not really :p)

i'll try to be here then, you gave away some really useful stuff last time. Thanks for doing this even if I dont make it

I can't really fathom 16GB being necessary, but I'm sure people said that about 2GB. Outside of multimedia stuff, I've never gone above 4GB used.

I've seen BF3 go over 4GB, but that probably has to do with 5760x1080 at 4xMSAA. pCARS as well but that game is in early early beta.

Hazaro

relies on auto-aim
In addition to Haz's suggestions, I'd suggest going with something other than the 650D. If you get bit by the enthusiast bug, you're going to face a lot of limitations. Even if you don't, it's limited in a lot of ways around how the standard airflow is designed. Some options for better cases with a similar aesthetic (as in, not for a teenager): Fractal Arc Midi, Define R4, Silverstone TJ04, Bitfenix Ghost, Shinobi XL, Lian Li PC-90, PC-A55.
One important thing he wanted was a ton of USB 3.0 ports on the case iirc. Which is why I didn't mention alternatives (since I don't know the USB 3.0 counts on em!)

Finally got my SSD yesterday. TBH I haven't noticed any difference in boot-up speed. Have to test some more.

Anyway, having a problem with the SteelSeries Engine software. Whenever I reboot or shutdown the PC, it hangs at the shutting down screen. Not takes long, hangs (The looping circle stops). If I disconnect the mouse before I shutdown or reboot, it works fine. Anyone had a similar problem?

Guys, stupid question time.
Got a 670 to replace a pair of 560s ti. Any point in keeping one of the 2 560s in there, as a dedicated physx card or something, or is that just a really goofy idea?

Edit: so google tells me this guy is saying it makes a difference. My PC however isnt even detecting the 560 right now......

The 670 is more than competent to handle physx as well as rendering. Unless you're running in a very high res.

It's finally time! I'm gonna build myself a new PC! The last PC I built for my own personal use was a Barton 2500+ with a ATI 9800 Pro, but after the graphic card stopped working last summer I bought a Macbook Air. I'm pretty happy with it but serious gaming is out of the question.

So this is what I have in mind for my new rig:

Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V PRO
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K 3,4Ghz (Ivy Bridge)
CPU fan: Noctua NH-D14
PSU: be quiet! Straight Power E9 680W 80+ Gold m
RAM: Corsair 8GB (2x4096MB) CL9 1600Mhz VENGEANCE LP
HDD: Samsung SSD Basic 830-Series 128GB (for OS)
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 670 2048MB DirectCUII
Comp case: Fractal Design Define R4
Extra fans x 2: Enermax T.B.Silence PWM
DVD: DVD±RW Samsung 22X Black

Thoughts?

Wow i didn't even know you could do that. I always thought that you needed SLI to get more than one card in there.

I'm running at 1440p with a 670 Windforc and a 550ti as my physx card. I used to see an occasional dip into the high 30s in big battles in Borderlands 2 but after I put in my spare 550ti I gained at least 5-10 extra frames on the game (have no way to really know). I rarely see the game dip into the low 40s now and haven't seen it once drop to the 30s.

Is a 660 ti the best bang for my buck? I'm upgrading from a 460.

I upgraded from a GTX 460 recently. My obsessive research led me to the HD 7950 as best bang for your buck. Especially if you want to overclock, they're a beast in that regard.

I think the 660 ti and 7950 are about the same price if not really close. I think all you lose out on by going AMD is Physx support, but really I think 1 or 2 games a year come out that take advantage of it.

My only thought is concerning the GPU, as I was going to make the same purchase, but was told the Gigabyte version of the 670 was the best option. It's whisper quiet, and unless things have changed in the last couple weeks, cheaper than the Asus version. Glad I switched.

I would check a few things out, did you clone? When I installed my wife's I followed this thread to optimize- http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds Make sure partition is aligned properly. Also not sure what your boot time was, but I went from ~30-45+ seconds into full usable desktop down to 9 seconds when I installed mine.

thx much.

Just make sure you have the space to fit these cards in your case.

I wanted to buy an HIS IceQ 7950 but at 12" it's too big (that's what she said) for my case.

Look at Sapphire, MSI, or Gigabyte Windforce cards for the high OCers. For cooling the HIS IceQ models appear to be the best.

I think the Gigabyte WF is the best of both worlds (excellent OC and excellent cooling).

Going to post pics later, but I have an EVGA GTX 580 Superclocked I am looking to sell. Going to post here and the B/S/T thread before posting on OCN and xtremesystems. Great condition, not even OC'd for bench runs (though I could if you want me to find out its limits). reference design, so it'll take any cooler or block you want to put on it. $235 takes it home.

That's the thread I used to make sure I did it right actually. Load times for games is much better, it's just the bootup time. I installed a clean version of Win 7 so that TRIM would work.

What kind of boot time are you getting (measure from the moment you see "Starting Windows"), did you check alignment?

and you get borderlands 2 for free (which supports physx) going for 660 ti ;), that's 60$ saving

I need to check as well, I think I am around 10 seconds from starting to log on screen. 25 total from button to logon.

And its time to start looking for a video card. I guess it sounds like 7950 and 660ti/670 are the way to go for 1080p gaming. Now to wait until they reach ~200.

I started getting weird slow down - speed up lag in several games so I checked temperatures. The CPU looked fine but I opened it up to hoover it out anyway.

I then tried turning it on with the side open and noticed only one fan on the graphics card was working. I have a MSI 6950 'Twin Forzr III'. I set the machine up again with the side open and tried a game and it didn't slow down but the second fan didn't come on either. This might be because the side was open though so it's going to be much cooler. Should both fans always be running? I installed MSI Afterburner and that doesn't show options for duel fans. I've noticed it twitching sometimes as if it's trying to come on.

Aligned. I think I missed the fact that Windows was installing updates the whole time. It's better now, around 10 seconds, but it's not that much different from my HDD which was around 15-20 seconds.

Thanks for the help!

Finally got the junctions thing right with Steam too!

Now if I can find a solution to the fact that the SteelSeries Engine borks my mouse as soon as It starts :(

pcpartspicker is wrong. Follow the link.

I have the thing in my shopping cart so I can tell when it changes prices, it was $180 and it went up by $15.

Nobody responded to the other thread so I'll post it here. What is the best gaming headset around $100? I'm looking for:

- comfort
- sound quality (with headphones and mic)
- a mic that isn't over sensitive

I've heard that headphones with the 3.5 mm jack are better than usb and I've got the hookups for those so that would probably be best.

AMD has been bundling Sleeping Dogs (phenomenal game) with some of their cards. My HD 7950 came with it.

You can buy either one for around $40-$45 from GreenManGaming.

mkenyon directed me to the SteelSeries Siberia v2s (don't buy the iPod version...) or the Asus Vulcan.

I went with the Siberia v2, comes in tomorrow. I got to try em on and they felt great.

Any good headphone recommendations?

My problem is this: I wear glasses and any average sized headphones that rest directly on my ears will eventually hurt from the headphones pushing my ears into my glasses. Is there anything good thats also big enough to cover my entire ear so that I dont have that pressure ON the ear?

Kipp

but I am taking tiny steps forward
I know the HDD situation is pretty bad right now, but does that apply to external HDDs as well? Those 3TB external drives go on sale quite often and I could use one right now. Would that be a wise or unwise choice? Obviously if those ones are in poor shape and known to be unreliable there's not really a point in getting one, since the point of having it would be backup/storage.

Your best bet is probably asking in the headphone thread.

See my post above. I have dumbo ears. Siberia v2 encloses my ears.

EDIT: That's a headset I'm referring to, has a mic.

I have a corsair h70, original, wrapped in plastic, not opened for people living in the netherlands. 50 euro's with receipt.

My first week of having my complete new PC built and running after some complications with parts/building it has gone quite well. I'm really enjoying it immensely. However, I have one little concern that I'm not even sure is much of a problem.

So whenever I boot up my after say 10 or so hours being turned off, it automatically boots up straight to the BIOS and then Win 7. Restarts and whatnot after the fact within a short period will boot straight to Win 7 like it normally should, but that's not my problem.

My problem is that when booting to BIOS, it says I have a "CPU Fan Error!" Today, I turned off/unplugged everything outside of the case, opened up my case, unplugged the CPU_Fan port (the wires looked fine and in place as well), sprayed some compressed air all around my PC and as much of my CPU fan as I possibly could. I put it all back together, but left one side of my case open so that I could check to see if the specific CPU fan was spinning or having any problems. I rebooted to see that my CM Hyper 212 Plus was spinning fine and I didn't see any dust beforehand.

In the BIOS menu it shows that my CPU Fan starts at around 590 RPM with everything seemingly fine. All of my other fans start and continue past 620+ RPM at boot. After a few minutes, it starts to stay at around 615 RPM and then a few minutes after, it stays at 680+ RPM while in BIOS mode with the side of my case open.

Should I be concerned if my CPU fan starts out under 600 RPM in the red unlike my other fans? The fact that it stabilizes and acts normally just a few minutes after booting up makes me think it isn't a problem. However, I still keep getting that "CPU Fan Error!" warning.

What part should I upgrade next? Games I play that I am happy with, performance-wise, at the current setup: Dota 2, Counter-Strike: GO, Ys Oath of Felghana.

I just got Dark Souls and want to improve performance to run it 1080p w/ 60 fps. Right now it's at 30fps, sometimes goes down or up a bit to 45-60 fps. And playing at resolution of 1600 x 900 windowed.

Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi
Motherboard: ASRock H61M-VS LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU: Intel Pentium G620 Sandy Bridge 2.6GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80623G620
GPU: EVGA 01G-P3-1556-RX GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 192-bit GDDR5
PSU: CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 V2 (CMPSU-430CXV2) 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS
RAM: G.SKILL NS 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
SSD: Kingston HyperX 3K SH103S3/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III
Monitor: Dell ST2210B 21.5-Inch Full HD Widescreen Monitor

Should I upgrade my monitor to BenQ XL2420T, or upgrade cpu or gpu first? What would be the most beneficial to replace right now for more performance for games?

And what is the recommended GPU that my PSU can handle that has the best value for my money? I want to spend around $100-$200 for the gpu at the moment.

Maybe someone else here may help you way better but if that was my computer i would buy a quad core third gen core i5

Ok I think I need a new card. I can get a Gigabyte 660 for £250, dont really want to spend more. I was happy with my 6950 1gb so I don't really need something amazing, anything of good value at around £200?

Warning, big pile of text.

So I have this weird problem.

Two weeks ago, I built a new PC with a GTX 660Ti and MSI H77A-G43 mobo.
Everything ran smooth and without any problems until I wanted to add another
hard disk. When I put the other hard disk in the SATA port (for my old files and music) and I restart the PC, all of a sudden my mobo loadscreen is way to big for my screen and when the system tries to start up windows, my screen loses the signal with my pc. However, the system is still running since I hear the startup sound.

I format the pc, download new drivers, everything I could think of, but nothing works.
It does, however, work when I use my Integrated Intel GPU.

Since I very lightly touched the cooler of my GPU, I thought it was there the problem lie, so I sent it back to the deliverer. However, I got it sent back today saying they didn't find a defect.

So I start it back up and yes, it does work! I install the new nVidia drivers and all and everything runs smooth...

Until I try to install the USB 3.0 drivers. In the middle of the setup, the screen goes black and I have the same problem from before I sent it back, with a blue screen added.

Now, the blue screen is gone but the same problem still remains. Could anyone think of anything that could be wrong with it? Was it the order of driver installation? I seriously have no idea what to do. Is it my mobo, my GPU? Should I ask my money back?
I'm all out of ideas...
