Lol that's funny.

But check this out (this what I got running Codename Android 3.6 with Franco Kernel, OC only to 1305 - could go higher if I wanted and UC down to 230 on the Galaxy Nexus, stock browser):

I ran this on Chrome and for 1615. Stock browser runs this shit w/ quick controls.

Alright, so I finally had the chance to spend a good 20 minutes with an S3 running Jelly Bean.

You guys win, the interface is much smoother. No doubt about it. The general UI navigation does indeed deliver a smooth 60 fps refresh rate and the general feeling of using the device is much snappier than with ICS. It seems like an excellent phone, no doubt about it, and with Jelly Bean the experience is excellent.

Mucho respect for going and trying it man! I definitely wouldn't say that it does everything better than iOS, and I definitely wouldn't say the iPhone 5 won't do some stuff better and faster than an S3, but JB definitely brought Android to a level where UX is very comparable. Prior to iOS and then JB, they were really not even close. I feel that they are now though.

good thing we didn't make a thread about this yet.

Have fun waiting for the update!

The update that already went out long ago bro? Yeah, we will get right on that. Also, there is a thread already ;)

Everything gets owned by Nokia's image stabilization.

also, it's weird to say "again" isn't it? there haven't been any software changes to iOS' image stabilization since the first videos on this general subject, so it stands to reason that it won't win an image stabilization competition with a new Lumina because it can't. There won't be a change in the results no matter how many times its tested.

It's like booting up a cross-platform version of X game with no new patches, finding that it in fact still runs at a lower framerate on one platform than the other (as it did yesterday when you ran the same test) and saying it "got owned again". Like, did you expect a different result this time? lol

Just about to post this. Not only is the image more stable the picture is also better.
it shits on all of its competitors in image stabilization and PQ in every video I've seen for the last month, whether iPhone, Galaxy, Evo or whatever else. No surprises here.

Nokia should do the smart thing and launch some reinforced harnesses for helmets and bikes. I could see GoPro getting a bit mad.

That or license the tech for monies.

yea. seems to be better than all iOS and Android phones in low-lighting, as discussed some weeks ago.

at the end of the day, I'm still not taking low-light pics with a phone anyway. noise is always too high in the pics and colors are distorted regardless. these competitions are like crowning the least functionally-retarded kid in the room as the smartest. Either way, you're not really winning...you're just losing a little less than the other guy.

If you want decent low-light pics, get a real camera and a f/1.2 prime lens. That's what I do. To me the only phone pics that matter are those that show the quality in normal lighting situations.

Has anyone here actually been saying things like that? I thought, at least on GAF, that everyone knew Nokias new cameras are going to be the cameras to beat.

Oh yes. After AdGate, there was reason enough to doubt it, but even with multiple hands-on impressions, people didn't believe. There was a lot of doubt about the photos taken at the Nokia event--a few gaffers thought that the focus flash was giving the 920 a false sense of better low-light performance.

Just a few pages ago, when compared to a GS3:

woah

would still like to see the test recreated a few places just to be safe

yeah, like the vase test before it, it looks too good to be true.

Eh, I think this is silly and unfounded. I'm not gonna carry my T2i w/prime around at night when I want to take pictures of myself and friends. Even if I did have a smaller point and shoot, having everything in one device is a lot more convenient.

I hear ya. But...

If you're not going to have a legit camera then you don't really care about the photos in the first place and you have to take what you can get. Low-light pictures on all of these phones fucking suck, period. In this case the Lumina sucks a little bit less than the iPhone 5/SGS3 which is cool but in no way increases my desire to take what will ultimately be poor low-light photos. None of these phones are good enough or bad enough at low-light photography to make or break a purchase. But hey...if you're taking so many random-ass night pictures with friends that it being marginally better on the Lumina is more important than other selling points, the 920 is your best option. It is indeed the least retarded kid in the class when it comes to night photos.

Either way, I bet you won't be looking to print any of these high ISO, noisy photos...so to me it's a moot point. To me it's a nice box to check. The sprinkles on top of the icing on top of the cake, if you will. But little more.

The 920 will be the best phone released this year but be reviewed poorly because of the app store.
Maybe it will be the best phone, maybe it won't.

But yes as a current iPhone owner (since 2007) who is looking very hard at the 920, the app situation remains the most pressing concern. Yes, I like the look and feel of the OS and default apps...but I spend more time with the 3rd party apps and games on my iPhone than I do with the default apps. They matter. If you've never owned an iPhone, you'll never miss what you didn't have, but for the rest of us who have (or do currently) we'd be able to sleep easier knowing our essential apps (or apps with similar functionality) were on the way. Unfortunately, that's partially a function of market share...and who knows what kind of market share WinMo8 will get. Will it be enough to convince the developers of my favorite apps to make a WinMo8 version? Will the release of Windows 8 itself spark a boost of software to WinMobile 8's store? Not to mention 3rd party/accessory support.

Lots and lots of questions, not a lot of answers. Even the basics like a release date are lost to us. It does not instill confidence.

Can't decide if I should get a GS3 now or wait for the Note 2. Bah.
You should really go get some hands on time with the GS3 and the original Note (as the Note II is larger).

For my hands, the GS3 is right about at the limit of how large a device I'm willing to carry. Obviously the Note is very popular, however, so that doesn't seem to matter to people. Once you cross into Note territory and beyond, however, single hand usage becomes much more difficult. Try gripping a credit card horizontally in one hand and see where you thumb lands and that might give you an idea of what a Note II is going to be like.

If you really WANT something huge, though, then the Note II will definitely deliver.

Note 2 is thinner but taller and many previews say it's more comfortable in hands than the original.

actually everywhere I've read said nokia drive > google maps >>>>> apple maps

I think that's only if you're driving. Maps wise Google still has more information and is more comprehensive. Though Nokia has more global coverage, not like that matters to me though lol.

I'm really interested in the 920. Hmm. My wife needs a new phone.

Fair enough! You are correct, I generally don't print out any photos, I just want to get pics. This is very encouraging, to me (GS3 on left, 920 on right):

I want lumia 920.
Looks like a perfect Dev phone.

Now i hope i can still score a free dev account with dream spark.
Any word if WP8 will support OpenCL or will it only have DirectCompute and C++AMP?

That camera should come in handy doing some vision stuff with it.

i dunno if a better camera will be enough when it runs WP8

No kidding, everyone is suddenly a pro photographer. I hardly ever use the camera on my smart phone, works great but if I want real pics I bring a real camera (DSLR with a real lens).

What the hell does "real pics" mean? I don't want to lug around my DSLR when I go to a bar/show/camping/friend's house.

It's a good thing point-n-shoot cameras never took off! Everyone should have just bought DSLRs instead.

about 90% of the photos I take are at bars or parties. a great camera in a phone > a bad camera in a phone. there is nothing to argue here. LOL REAL PICTURES.

I remember apple ads that were like "maybe your iphone is the only camera you'll need" lulz.

You sound real spontaneous.

tbh, my DSLR is almost always in my car. If I know I'm going somewhere special with my friends, I'm taking it with me. The only times I don't have my DSLR in an accessible place is when I'm going somewhere that it's not allowed (say, a concert event) or somewhere it isn't practical to take (like a club). Otherwise unless I'm just taking a silly, disposable shot, I'm reaching over for my DSLR. It's the only reliable way to capture a moment with a level of quality that I'd consider high enough for the moments I'd want to keep.

Being "spontaneous" doesn't mean "not being prepared", my friend.

lol bar photos. sounds like someone's taking pictures of people that didn't ask to be photographed. and why wouldn't you take a good camera to a party (assuming you didn't mean a club)?

lastly, none of these phone cameras are "bad". they're all varying gradations of "shit". less shitty or slightly more shitty. most purchases will not ride on the results of either.

camera pics are great when you have no other choice. otherwise, hell no.

goddamn you just can't get Apple out of your mind, can you? you'd think with a Windows logo in your avatar, you'd be able to spend time talking about Windows without worrying so much about the competition. Then again, Apple is getting the attention WP8 wishes it could get but can't...so I guess there's that.

No he's probably right. When it comes to features, the 920 is shitting on everything.

Whether WinMo8 delivers or not is the only remaining question. Every day they go without a release date is another day potential customers are lost to Apple and Android.
well, if you mean OS independent features, then it's pretty lacking, no removable battery, no removable storage... and the OS that it's running delivering isn't just a remaining question, it's the 2nd biggest question at least. we're talking 30% of the final course type question.

i dunno about you, but i can't want to take tons of late night low light pics IN DA CLUB, BOTTLE FULLA BUB
