Borderlands 2 |OT| Opening Pandora's Box (of Guns!)

Anyone else skipping side-missions because they fear they will tire of the game before completing the main story?

Save those side-missions for TVHM or until you hit level 50, IMO. That way the rewards will scale to your level and you get more EXP.

Oh man, beating
Bloodwing
in True Vault Hunter Mode was so damn frustrating, died way too many times. Finally managed to do it after I found a class mod that boosted my SMG damage by 81%.

I'm almost to that part in TVHM. I can tell it's going to be a pain in the ass since getting there was already a pain in the ass.

Y'know for me, it's not even about getting to level 50 any more. The journey getting there is freakin' amazing. It's a damn fun fun romp on TVHM with a full party.

Also, playing with randoms on PC are some good peoples. Haven't come across anyone that duped, hacked or modded from what I've seen. Players are also very considerate about loot too, which is nice as hell. Players would wait until everyone got a chance to look at what just dropped from a boss or what they opened from a loot chest.

Are you matchmaking or partying with GAFers? I'd love to be able to rock TVHM with some people but both of my main party members have hit 50 and kind of stopped playing, with one playing MoP and the other floundering about SC2. TT

I'm doing both - if no one on GAF is on to play, I'll go hit up matchmaking. I'm a level 40 Siren right now. Hit me up on Steam if you ever want to play, TVHM or not.

There are times when TVHM feels cheap as hell because the game decides to spawn SBA all over the place. One time, in the Hyperion Gulag near The Dust, the game spawned 5 Super Badass Loaders at the same time, and when we finally brought one down, a new one would spawn.

I love it @_@

We got raped at the Wildlife Preserve in TVHM. If you aren't fighting Super Badass Loaders, you're fighting a pack of Alpha Skags and Super Badass Corrosive/Shock/Flame Skags non-stop. And then you've got relentless stalkers who teleport right in front of you. Must have lost like 50k - I just sent the U-Station announcer's kid to college.

Wow, I didnt die once in that fight. It was fairly easy for me. Must be the super awesome pistol I found that kills enemies in 3 or 4 shots. lol Also
I was shocked Jack killed Bloodwing. So sad for Mordecai. :(

I found it easy because he hardly touched me. Seemed like his sole purpose was to fly around like a jackass more than anything. Let my turret do it's thing mostly. Shitty fight.

Just beat the game

Handsome Jack for vilain of the generation with Glados

At first I thought he was just an annoying, class-less, smalltime, badly written asshole, but he's being built up pretty well to say the least. I'm now
doing the sidequests after Sanctuary lifts off
but I can't wait to kill the bastard :-D First video game villain since, well, forever, that I'm looking forward to fight. God damn evil asshole.

Anyone build an alert system yet for when Pitchford sends out a key? I have missed all of them. Spent my first key last night at lvl 23 with Maya since I was in the middle of my worst loot drought ever. I got a decent Siren class mod and a Gunzerker class mod..weeeeeee. At least I am a healing machine. Has helped my co op buddies a lot.

I did. I set up Twitter to text me when he tweets. And I set a special tone for any texts from Twitter.

Had my first moment that's caused me to put the controller down and turn off the 360, with no desire to go back and play the game. Doing the mission in Opportunity to
kill the Jack impostor
. I'm level 45, the mission is level 44. The enemy in question is my size, but can't be phaselocked(that's idiotic). He's pretty resistant to all damage types, which means it's going to be a long fight of running, hiding to let shields go back up. All that is fine, but the problem is the shitty ****ing design of Opportunity. If a robot detects me, more show up. Kill them, more show up. Kill them, more show up. And it doesn't end. I had to get away from the guy I was there to kill and just kill robots over and over for a good 30 minutes before I just said "fuck this game" and shut it off. Hard to kill boss fights are fine, but making them cheap as shit with awful game design is something I dont have the time or patience for.

Haha, Pitchford's getting annoyed with people who I suspect are hassling him about having missed previous keys.
Well they could have avoided all of this by having Sanctuary have a few red chests in out of the way places similar to New Haven in the original. They have basically changed that from being a boring run around town to a boring time stalking Twitter and Facebook. I am a massive Borderlands fan (200+ hours in the original) and some of the shit they are doing is clearly motivated by trying to milk as much as they can from the franchise (hi Diablo 3). He says nothing in Borderlands is balanced around the golden keys but that chest is obviously the reason they did not include red chests in town.

Between the keys, the horrible bank slot allotment, inventory size and characters being separate paid DLC (in addition to the season pass) I think Gearbox and 2K have made some really poor decisions. I will not be the least bit surprised if they offer paid DLC , separate from everything else of course, to "fix" the aforementioned issues. I really enjoy the game but I am already tired of the amount of crap they are trying to feed me and the game is barely out. Sorry if all of that sounds bitchy, I am one of those people who is most critical of the things I really like.

Should have just sold keys in game for 25 eridium. But as others pointed out, this is just a way to market the game via social media. Loyal consumers be damned.

I agree with you but this is the state that the gaming industry is in right now. All that because a couple of years ago a "suit" realized how magical that whole "social media" thing was and they all decided to bet on that.

It's the same reason why we get shit like "If we get enough like on that post you'll get to see that trailer early" or crap like that...ugh....

The red chests in New Haven were horrible. It was so efficient to farm items so I did it, but it wasn't fun to run around the city, grab guns, fast travel away and back, and do it again. over and over and over.

OK so I'm level 12, am I supposed to have access to that arena or whatever from my preorder bonus? Or does that come later on in the story? I don't want to be missing it if its right under my nose.

Heh, my option to select true hunter vault mode disappeared from the continue screen. Had to start a new game and quit at the character selection screen, then reload my old character to finally start the new game plus.

Weird how games act up sometimes.

Corrosive on robots can't be emphasized enough. I kept putting it off early game because my explosive sniper was better, I finally used a slightly lower spec corrosive sniper and destroyed them.

I don't understand how this works as marketing. If I don't already have the game any posts about golden keys are just spam.

Not really. The only top tier weapons I have are fire.

I have a Moxxi corrosive SMG from the first play through which I was using in Gunzerk mode.

Maybe I just need a break.

Explosive is the best vs. Hyperion robots, in my experience. The explosion radius makes it very easy to get crits and crits are how you disable and/or kill the bots quickly.

No disagreement from me on the chests being lame. However, I think the Golden Chest is worse because it is requiring you to do boring stuff outside of the game. Having to get something outside of the game to access something inside the game is lame.

I think the game as a whole would have been much better served if that chest could only be opened once per PT as a "bonus". I also liked the suggestion above about selling keys for 25 Eridium as that would give you a means in-game of opening a chest.

So far the only character in B2 I like is the redneck at sanctuary.

He keeps jumping to other accents/themes though, all the voice actors seem to do this. It's kind of shitty :\

I haven't done a whole lot of side missions in TVHM, but Super Badass and Badass spawns seem to be fairly fixed. If that happened it was probably intentional on the devs part. I've yet to run into an encounter that's impossible to solo in TVHM and I'm making my second run through at this point.

Meh he deserves it. just push keys in game to people who have already signed up for shift and stop whoring on twitter / facebook to get more followers.

The way they are doing it now excludes more people than in includes.

Second question related to purchasing Borderlands 2 in this thread so I apologise for that but I'm almost set on purchasing it however I've put on the first game and instantly I remember why I stopped playing it and that is because I became ridiculously overpowered without any effort to do so. I was playing as the Siren and at level 63, after finishing the Controller and Elemental Paths (mostly) all challenge had dissipated as upon killing enemies you end up with shields quickly regenerating (Girl Power), Phoenix, increased movement (Intuition) and increased bullet damage/accuracy (Enforcer). As a result, it left combat ridiculously boring and almost tedious (which is why, when combined with the "Gather X quests", I had stopped the game).

What I'm wondering is ending up with a ridiculously over-powered character is as easy to achieve in Borderlands 2 as it is in the first game? True Vault Hunter Mode suggests that it isn't, but I'm hoping somebody that has progressed sufficiently far can give their opinion on the end-game difficulty and whether or not the game ends up laughably easy at the end. This really is the only thing holding me back from the game at the present time so any honest answers would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about that but he had to have known people were going to complain - should have sent these tweets from the Gearbox official twitter account rather than his personal.

On a different topic - fuck the caustic caverns.

But to somebody who owns the games and wants the keys these posts aren't spam. So by your logic it isn't marketing.

It's not marketing to people that own the game. It's now a service. A shitty service that requires you to constantly watch Twitter to get something that should have been part of the game to begin with. The reason they're doing this isn't to reward people that bought the game. If that was their intent, they'd have built it into the game. This is being done to keep themselves being mentioned post-release. Marketing to people that aren't yet a consumer. It's not a difficult concept. Pretty much Advertising 101.

Who is mentioning it? I don't see anything on any gaming sites about golden key announcements. Only place is see it is in this thread.

Sitting in 2.5 I don't understand the big deal about the chest in the first place. I've not seen anything come out of that chest that I also haven't seen drop multiple times and/or in regular chests. Jumping through hoops to open one more chest when you can simply fast travel to any of a number of zones and kill a boss in a couple clicks and get exactly the same(and more of it)loot seems silly.

If it is advertising it isn't working. If anything I see it as a draw to get people signed up for Shift, not as a draw to get people into Borderlands 2.

People need to take off the tinfoil hats and realize sometimes that bad design is simply bad design. There doesn't need to be a masterplan behind it.

That's why I don't understand why people are complaining about it. The chest has no bearing on the game. The loot that drops ranges from decent to good, but never exceptional, so why is there all this crying about missing a code?
