There's a number of things I take issue with in your post.

1. The president doesn't hold much power at all over the economy. It's about perception of power, but you seem to imply the president can have more than just ideas and actually act and that's just not true, and even his ideas are useless with a congress actively working against him.

2. There's no way Romney can effectively use this. To do so he'd have to either make outlandish claims (like 4% unemployment with him in office) or provide some kind of coherent plan, and so far he's been terrible at making consistent, logical plans that don't have huge, easy to refute holes in them.

Nevertheless, some groups stuck with the narrative that the economy isn't improving fast enough. The Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC primarily backed by GOP mega-donor Sheldon Adelson, launched a robocall attacking vulnerable House Democrats over the figures.

"I am calling on behalf of the Congressional Leadership Fund to tell you about the weak new jobs report," reads the script. "With just 114,000 jobs added, it's yet another failure of policies supported by Obama and Kathy Hochul. But we don't need a jobs report to know that these failed economic policies are hurting family's bottom lines. We've been buried in it."

You're right, though. This isn't an acceptable level of economic growth. I say we throw out the obstructionist republicans and we can get some real growth going instead of having everything Obama wants to do to promote "acceptable" levels of growth stopped in its tracks.

It's weird how quickly they can jump on this, despite not a few days ago the media jumping for joy at a Romney win, despite that he won only on style and not substance at all. The media celebrated a victory to a guy that threw out more bullshit than almost anyone could actually track, yet they're lefty?

Hilarious.

The main GOP tagline has been the economy hasn't improved at all since Obama took office. Romney has had the audacity to claim it's gotten WORSE on several occasions.

Now, he's not improving it fast enough.
 
I don't buy these numbers for a second. They have to be heavily manipulated. I can't believe the actual unemployment in this country is anywhere close to single digits.

People who haven't looked for work in a month aren't counted as "unemployed", they count as "not in the labor force." This includes people who have no intention of working, like retirees, as well as people who might possibly like to work but stopped looking. The latter group are counted as "marginally attached to the labor force" if they looked for work in the last 12 months but not in the last 4 weeks.

The level of marginally attached workers has barely changed in the last year.

More likely because he lives in a region that may be harder hit by unemployment and thus has an "anecdotal" view of the UE situation nationwide.

"Hey, it's raining outside my window; therefore, it must be raining in [______] as well"

It's an issue of scope.

I can tell you this: my inbox has been steadily filling up with job props very consistently starting around Feb this year to the point where it's like spam in my inbox.

Going back to the topic of the recovery not being enough, I just wish the Dems would have at least made some point during this election cycle of showing everyone just how obstructionist the GOP in the Senate have been these past four years in terms of filibustering at record-breaking numbers so that we might finally get the dirtbags out.

I feel like this is the kind of thing people who want to sound edgy about politics say. It's such an ignorant generalization that ignores actual evidence of the contrary. Yeah, there is some truth to it but it isn't simply the case Dems=Repubs, two sides of the same coin, less/greater of two evils, blah blah, like statements like that make it out to be

Ehh, they came out right at the beginning and said their goal was to make Obama a one-term president. I suppose that at least in that one case, I can praise the GOP's honesty.

The unemployment rate that you will hear reported is a rate that is based only on those who are actively looking for work but unable to find it. So people who have simply given up looking for a job because they have been unable to find one are not considered unemployed. They are simply excluded from the calculation. If you count those people as unemployed, the rate of unemployment necessarily increases.

Mitt is wrong, however. The latest report actually showed a higher participation rate, meaning a greater proportion of the population was looking for work than last month. That the rate still dropped was due to even more people reporting being employed than people entering the job market. However, it is true that there is still a substantial number of people who are not looking for work (given up trying), and so the official unemployment rate still understates the real economic picture (as it always does whether times are good or bad).

The net decrease in the unemployment rate over the past year is HIGHER than than usual for the re-election of a President. What are you going on about? It has dropped nearly an entire percent in this last year.
