THE DENPA MEN: They Came By Wave |OT| An original eShop JRPG (Free demo available)

From playing the demo, it seems like the is more about picking the right denpa men before going into the dungeon rather than tactics in a battle. The auto battle routine seems to pick the options after the enemy select attacks, so it will do things like revive someone who just died in the same turn. Surely there has to be reason to not use auto battle, does it not use items?

Hey there, KarmaCow. Although it's *definitely* important to make the right choices as to which kinds of Denpa Men you take into any given dungeon, that hardly makes the game a cakewalk -- even if you decide to use the auto-battle option.

I actually don't use the auto-battle options myself all that often (esp. the one that allows the AI to use skills), as the Ai just isn't smart enough for me most of the time. The only time I really use it is if I'm only battling one or two enemies that I'm sure I can overpower using headbutting alone. Other than that kind of situation, though, I tend to use a mix -- I choose specific commands for some of my Denpa Men and then tell the remainder to run in a headbutt the enemies in question.

I think you'll find you have to do this fairly often during the full game -- especially in the dungeons you start to encounter about halfway through the adventure. Even then, victory's hardly guaranteed unless you're at least a bit over-leveled.

I have a level 25 Denpa who has had an antenna root since I picked him up around level 8. For some reason it won't develop and reveal what he actually is. Are there some that need additional requirements before their powers develop? :|

If he's a permanent root guy I'm going to be pretty annoyed; he has horrible attack power.

Ugh, fuck that Ice Demon! :/

My thoughts exactly! I was ravaged by him yesterday :| Currently grinding/leveling up my Denpa dudes so I can make another run at him.

Can anyone share any advice as to which skills are best against him? Last time I used 'Rising Flames' and 'Fire Wall' as much as possible, but little else. This time I'm going to add 'Fatal' and 'Supernova' to the mix, although I was thinking 'Great Wall' (on my own characters, of course) might help, too?

When I was looking up the ability, people mentioned it would take longer (sometimes a lot longer) for his true power to be revealed if the move was really strong. So you can hold out hope for that. Are you bringing him into battle with you, or just leaving him in your box? Not sure if it makes a difference, just curious.

This is a developer QR code that's being distributed on the JP Denpa Men Facebook page for Denpa Men 2, but I figured I'd post it here anyway.

Her name is Tsukiyo, she comes with an item that'll help with beating the game, and she personally is useful in the early stages of the game. Her antenna starts out as a just a root, but it'll grow in a few levels.

Yea, the little guy is going with me into battle. I had a total party wipeout at the Volcano and spent over 100 Offerings to get my guys back :|

We don't have "get out of jail free" cards, but if we did, she'd have one.
Just got back from canvassing my neighborhood, ignoring a ton of
Weak Flash
guys because I thought that skill attempted to blind enemies. Now I'm going to the
Evil Tower after beating the octopus
and if you're that far you're nodding your head and chuckling at my poor supposition and lack of foresight. :/

Ouch, that sucks. I'd leave him at home until he hits puberty, so to speak. Even if dragging him around speeds up the process (doubtful, IMO) the undeveloped guys' stats are so bad as to not even be worth it.

So I downloaded the demo over the weekend, and man, I'm living this game. it reminds me of Dragon Quest, and I'm really liking it.

The first impression I got from seeing this, was the dungeon minivans you get on 3DS where you take Miis that you meet, along with cats and the occasional rabbit, and each has distinct powers based on colour.

Just picked up the game. I expected this to be fairly easy based on what I played of the demo and the style of the game and boy was I wrong. I probably should have grinded more before heading to the forest.

*Finally* beat the ice dungeon boss last night. Yay! He creamed me the first time, so I grinded for a bit and made some changes to my party. Also, after he "charged up" I used a "barrier" item to protect my party members from his attacks for a bit. Worked like a charm! Now I'm off to the Dark Ruins, or whatever they're actually called...

I noticed that your hero's level determines the level of the denpa men you can catch. I put the 2x exp clothes and accessory on my hero and grinded him to 99 while farming gold (ended up with 1 mil+ gold using Always Treasure on the dragon bug guys in the volcano). My hero ending up earning 4x exp compared to the rest of my men... by the time he hit 99 they were still in their mid 50's.

Pretty sure I'm done with this. Got to the
epilogue
, and can't seem to effectively grind. I can either go back to the
final dungeon
for middling xp, or chance a wipe with every encounter in the newest dungeon.

Do you have any equipment or clothes that raise the amount of XP you're getting? Plus there are a lot of clothes that significantly raise your stats.

I'm still stuck on the ice boss. Everytime I've fought it I ended up selecting Run and getting half the party killed.

Also I hate hate hate those wolves.

So I've been trying to figure out what the Hot Blanket ability does. I can't make my Denpa guy use it, and I can't find out where to look up info on it. Any ideas on what it does?

Sometimes you want to target a specific enemy. Auto battle won't know which. I don't think it uses items, but even if it did, it can't make the same choices you would. I only select Auto when I want everyone to attack and it either doesn't matter which enemy is targeted, or if there's only one. Or I might select some men to use items or abilities and then put the rest on auto.

In the demo, the auto battle seemed smart enough to prioritize attacking an undamaged enemy with a character that could one shot them, but it was just the demo. I was worried the lack of options in battle for each character (there is no defend option?) would make it too simple but I might pick it up later if there is more to it than walking through dungeons.

Any tips for the
manta ray enemies
in the
sea cave
? (Relatively early game spoilers.)

I like the game a lot but I've lost motivation to play it because these enemies keep destroying me.

What's the make up of your party, Linkup? If I'm remembering correctly, I had two Denpa Men who could use 'Rising Flames' and two who could use 'Fire Wall' when I encountered him, plus a 'Full Heal (All)' and of course the 'hero.' Can't remember which skills filled up the rest of the slots, though.

Another tip: Buy and use a 'Barrier' item on your party around the time the boss starts building up power (can't remember the actual word that's used here). That should help keep you alive a while longer.

And, of course, the best advice is to grind a bit and make sure your characters are strong enough and have enough HPs to take him on.

Anyway, good luck to you! Oh, and let me know if you have any other questions :)

Bring some dark blue Denpa Men to the dungeon. And do you have anyone that can heal poison? That would be a big help. You may need to level up a bit too.

One thing that is important to realize about this game is that you shouldn't use the same party for every dungeon. Proper party planning is a very important aspect.

This is the type of stuff that makes me want a 3DS. This is the good Japan stuff that is sorely lacking these days

My stubborn Denpa finally evolved at level 30 into an All Treasure man. I'm not really sure how to use him though; sometimes his ability is greyed-out, and at other times I only receive gold. Does anyone have experience with this ability?

So...how about that
Ice Demon
?

I'm curious when you all took him on. My party's average level was just shy of
33
and it was pretty tough. My skills were
Great Chain, Great Weaken, Great Wall, Hot Blanket (All), Medium Heal (All), Rising Flames × 2, and the Hero (I assume he's always Revive...?)
.

If you're thinking of doing something similar, you probably want to make sure your
Great Weaken
guy is above level
28
. Maybe it was just bad RNG or bad stats, but I couldn't get the skill to stick at that point. (I tried fighting him without realizing I'd missed most of the dungeon. Twice. That didn't go well.)

When I went to buy Barriers before facing him, they weren't available for purchase! I don't know if the items in stock are somewhat randomized or if you just had the good sense to buy them before beating
Pawn
and had some left over.

My stubborn Denpa finally evolved at level 30 into an All Treasure man.
I can't help you with the skill, but I caught two of the little buggers this afternoon with Antenna Roots at levels 30 and 32! Geez, I wonder when they'll evolve...

Now that is how you sell a game using a free demo. The demo was so adorable and addictive that I can't pass up the possiblity to take the boat to other places, particularly with this convenient ability to carry over my existing progress. It's like the golden era of Shareware, giving just enough to make me need the full game.

So, I've QR'd a couple of Denpa Men that were supposed to have abilities, but when I scan them, I get a 'Root Antenna' version of them where they don't have the ability they originally did. Anyone know why?
