Wasn't this the one where they basically said up front "we're going to merchandise/adapt the shit out of this"?

3DS/WiiU

Either that or started as a Vita game and moved to 3DS because that real time footage definitely wasn't 3DS. It's good to see more 3DS announcements though.

Or the "real time" footage was just concept renders and they hadn't actually chosen a platform at the time.

Or it's a Ninokuni situation where this is a unique handheld port and what we were shown first is either for PS3 or Wii U. Or both.

Having so many games targeting the exact same demographic on the same platform isn't exactly a great idea. Especially given Level-5's love of annual releases, and competition in that market from the king of it all in Pokemon. I suppose they didn't really have a choice in platforms though. Also :lol if that video was supposed to be representative of the 3DS build.

Well, Professor Layton is ending soon, so that leaves some of the market open.

The footage was as real as what they showed when Little Battlers was first unveiled. In that it wasn't indicative of the final product at all.

Looks like a game with many Pokémons creatures, I can see at least four in the scan.

I would say Pokemon is an ally, not competition. Unless Level-5 releases the game really close to Pokémon *, like Square did with Terry's Wonderland.

I was specifically talking about LBX vs. Inazuma Eleven vs. Youkai Watch. All three are children's RPGs with TV shows, with two of the three on an annual release schedule (Youkai Watch is TBD in that regards) all on 3DS.

they vary in style. the main comparison from lbx and inazuma to pokemon is the collectable aspect. not much is similar beyond that and the rpg basis

Not at all surprising. I hope there's a good game behind this, the trap so many fall into when chasing Pokemon's success is not having a brilliant base product and I'd hate to see someone as confident as L5 do the same.

Then again, with LBX and Inazuma already under their belt, they probably know what they're doing.

But Little Battlers is a PSP series.
It did get that port on 3DS, but the next game is coming for PSP/VIta.

Wasn't this a vita game?

Level-5 never announced a platform until now.

The presence of Pokemon on 3DS certainly helps Youkai Watch as it ensures a large amount of children will own the device. But they're all targeting the same audience, and one that has to ask mom and dad to buy them games, lol. With three separate series presumably on an annual schedule I wouldn't be surprised if Level-5's biggest enemy becomes themselves.

Yes, LBX isn't just a reskinned Inazuma Eleven (though Gundam AGE is a reskinned LBX) but ultimately it's still targeting the same audience as they're all children's RPGs. Perhaps Hino expects one of the current brands to decline considerably, and for this to replace it.

I wonder if this is what Ushiro turned into

Youkai Watch looks nothing like Ushiro. That was a Horror RPG targeted at teens. This is a monster catching RPG targeted at kids.

But Little Battlers is a PSP series.

LBX started out as a series on PlayStation. It's not going to continue as a series on PlayStation.

Well, again, the market on 3DS isn't as crowded right now.
And it'll be almost 2 years between Professor Layton games too, so maybe they learned something.

3DS only or is this like Ni no Kuni with a weird combo again? The screens from a while ago looked interesting. Hopefully Level-5 has a hit on their hands.

I actually agree with this wholeheartedly. The Vita is going to feel the pain of this in spring 2013 when all the Mon Hun clones hit.

lol this.

no way a 3ds game looks like that.

Why not? Its not a open world game with lots and lots of things on screen. In small spaces, 3DS can handle that kind of graphics.

Look a game that was made to Wii:

Running with childrens series does seem like a smart plan. With the markeing from tv shows it almost seems like free money.

And while I would agree about the future of the lbx series, time tends to make fools of us all

It's coming to Wii U? Or are you just speculating?

Speculation at this point. The Coro Coro article only mentions 3DS. If it proves successful there may be a Wii U counterpart ala Inazuma Eleven Strikers.

I wasn't necessarily singling out LBX with that comment. They're going hard with both of them, but Inazuma has a few years on LBX in terms of annualized sequels.

Speculation based on the previous shown video, should have had a question mark after it. And the Vita speculation was just going off of last E3's list which said they were making a Vita RPG. Although I guess that could have been Little Battler's W although that seems kind of strange when the first one hadn't come out yet.
