how do you know that Aaliyah wasn't her musical peak? how do you know that her trajectory from there was up? how could you possibly quantify her potential based on where she was musically when she died, where the musical climate was when she died, and where the musical climate is now in any meaningful way?

If you said you disliked her, that would be fine. I would also respect your opinion that her talent and career have been glorified due to her premature death.

However, when you say that she's only remembered because she died in a plane crash and her body was too badly charred to be identified, you've taken it way too fucking far. I'm pretty sure you would not say that sort of thing about non-celebrities who have died in tragedies, so how about having a modicum of respect for those who have passed away. Just because Aaliyah is one of Pop-GAF's faves does not mean she deserves to have you writing gruesome details about the way it happened, as if it were no different than shading some other girl for her weight.

Really though, reexamine yourself.

I agree with every word of this.

Whether or not you think Aaliyah is overrated due to her premature death doesn't matter. I (and most people ) believe that Aaliyah accomplished with her final album what Frank Ocean and Miguel are only doing NOW, damn near a decade later. Pushing R&B forward.

Does anyone know the name of that female musician that is featured in a music video where balloons are around her and it looks like they're in some sort homecoming after party? It's not Lana del Ray or PJ Harvey. I can't remember that band's name to save my life. I remember Best Buy was pushing them a lot.

The 26-year-old made the comments during a discussion over recent pictures of Gaga that appeared in the tabloids, showing her self-confessed "weight gain".

"I thought, well I don't really care if they think I'm fat, because, quite honestly, I did gain about 30 pounds," Gaga told Stylist magazine. "Adele is bigger than me, how come nobody says anything about it? She's so wonderful and I think her confidence is something I have to match. She has set the bar very high for a lot of women. The pictures in question - of Gaga on stage during her current Born This Way Ball tour - surfaced in the papers last month, prompting a reaction which the singer described as "ridiculous".

"I was acutely aware of some photos on the internet - my mum called me and was like, 'Did you gain weight?' - everybody was telling me about it, and I didn't really care," said the singer. "But when I heard it was on the news, where they talk about wars, the economy crashing and the election - I just thought, 'This is f*cking ridiculous'. I mean, what kind of example is that to a young girl sitting at home?"

I actually wrote a song about it on my album, it’s called GUY and it stands for Girl Under You. Why the hell is she saying Adele's weight is never talked about? There's rarely an article or interview where that's NOT brought up. One of the main differences is that Adele has an obviously conservative stage presence in comparison and dresses tastefully, whereas Gaga intentionally looks like a $5 hooker, so the body type is far less of an issue in the former instance.

Beth Ditto would've been a more relevant name for Gaga to drop in the context of that conversation.
