2K Games has revealed that it plans to release further download content for XCOM: Enemy Unknown in 2013.

Two packs have been revealed so far: the currently-available Elite Solider Pack, and the upcoming Slingshot Content Pack. 2K says it has more in the way.

"The title is proving to be a critical and commercial success," said the publisher, before confirming that the game "is being supported with two downloadable add-on content packages available this year, with additional content planned for 2013".

always glad to see new(ish) ips & turn based(ish) games make it big.

still have to pick this up for my 360, though.

Did they say anything about Steam Workshop support? I'm guessing after the DLC packs are out?

Edit: Read the full article, guess not. :/

Well, thats good news. Actually i think its like the highest reviewed game of the last few months, unless im missing a game...

I'd pay for 20 more maps to go into the random pool, heck I'd even pay for more idle routines for my soldiers when they're off duty, I swear my snipers are drunk as skunks by now.

Good. The game is in-cray-ah-blay. It's an awesome game with a great amount of content and a great respect for the player. aka nothing made by EA in the last 2 years

The game is great but I'd love to see a proper expansion instead of DLC. This game needs more of everything instead of short story missions.

This is amazing news, and critically important to the future health of reasonably budgeted mainstream gaming. Just imagine the number of turn-based games that might be greenlit by publishers now! Short-sighted businessmen like Christoph Hartmann will have some of their dumb views cut off at the knees now.

They've already said it could, but probably won't. That said doesn't Take-Two call pretty much every game a "critical and commercial success" ? I'd rather have actual sales numbers than vague statements.
I think Take-Two has called most of their games this year commercially disappointing, actually... Max Payne 3 and Spec Ops, among others.

PC GOTY, for sure. Glad to hear its getting support, hopefully this sends a clear message that we dont want "reimaginings" of old franchises like that garbage looking x-com FPS that was in development. Can't wait to see what's in the pipeline for it.

Yep. Also, straight sales numbers wouldn't tell the whole story. You'd need the game's development budget, marketing budget, and difficult-to-measure factors like future franchise potential to start evaluating success.

If it takes them another full year to support mods, I won't pay a dime! A DIME I SAY!

Even if XCOM is my GOTY.

Yes. I'd pay for more voice work. More text. More skin colors. More hairstyles that fit non-whites.

Is XCOM the GOTY
It's a contender for sure. It also opens the door for turn-based strategy to make a big comeback, through more XCOM, other faithful successors (I need a real Jagged Alliance sequel, not a real-time bastardization), and entirely original titles that build upon XCOM's advances.

I would also like to know this thing. Someone make some journalism happen and get us some new quotes.

Totilo's response:

I don't think it's a pretty important story. I think it's the same tired nonsense about games journalism that some folks love to carry on endlessly about. If we had more clear facts about whether some publisher president was wrong about misjudging their audience, then maybe we'd have a small story. But that would take reporting to find it out, and I just don't care enough about the latest supposed media scandal to ask my reporters to look into it.

You know what's important? Doing good games journalism.

It's always great when good games are also sucessfull

XCOM has been my favourite game in a long time. I want to play other stuff but i can't. Gotta beat that classic ironman.

I really hope they implement Steam Workshop support and release mod tolls. The types of map this game has look like they could be fairly easy to make using existing prefabs and, lots of similar yet different maps would improve the game ALOT.
