Halo 4 |OT| Spartans Never Die

It's been about 3 years since i last touched Halo 3. As for the novels, should anyone really have to read them for the game? If so, i'd say that's pretty weak on their part or at least decision wise ($$$). That goes for the Terminal hunting too. A few reviews mentioned it but when i'm in the middle of trying to save the world the last thing i'm concerned with is taking excursions.
Sorry, that's just my snark. The spoiler thread is probably your best bet.

Hell I did read the Halo 3 terminals and the two novels Cryptum and Silentium and I still didn't know why or what was going on. I knew background, but not foreground, if that makes sense.

Almost finished up with campaign now, great fun if not a little too familiar. Heroic is challenging without being too frustrating as well which is nice.
Would like to check out multiplayer though, don't suppose anyone here has a spare xbl trial code?

So, I purchased the LE OST back when it was announced but decided to get a refund for it a couple of weeks later. Fast forward to today and a visit from a ups truck and I now own the LE OST and I didn't even pay for it. Don't know why they still sent it to me.

I read Cryptum, Primordium, Glasslands and The Thursday War before jumping into Halo 4 (I'm just starting mission 6 at this point, so that's as far as my spoilers go).

They really helped to provide backstory to a lot of the characters and ideas,
especially the Didact, Librarian, the forerunner in general. Also the Infinity and Lasky, and the new faction of the Covenant led by Jul.

However, you're right. Obviously some major things have happened since last we read, so a lot of the things referenced in 4 are still vague and sometimes mysterious.
The Didact and the Librarian obviously had a bit of a falling out since Cryptum/Primordium. Apparently later on he starts rounding up humans to convert to Knights to use in the desperate fight against the Flood. And I guess the Librarian was converted to an AI.

Much happened in those final days that we know so little about.

The maps in this aren't very good. :(

I haven't played many of the big maps but I can't say I like any of the ones I've played so far(besides Ragnarok and even that isn't good because of the Mantis).

Halo 2>1=3>4=Reach
I can't decide if I'm playing multiplayer wrong or if everybody is a lot better at Halo than me.

How are you playing?

Something with the voice in this game is really wrong, I can't hear my coop partner at all. Shouldn't the game go a bit quiter when someone talks?

Well those first couple of multiplayer matches went surprisngly well! Played about 4 games and finished 1st or 2nd on my team! Probally has to do with the low ranks and new players i guess.

But man the gameplay feels so solid and fun, weapons have a nice feeling to them, movement, reloading and switching guns is smooth as fuck and you just feel awesome.

Is the Forerunner controller worth it? I'm thinking about getting one on eBay. It looks a lot cooler than the regular version. Only wanting to get it cause the dpad on my silver "new" controller broke. Is the non-matte finish bad or good?

Have to say the Grenade mechanic/reliance in Halo MP is still one of the stupidest things encountered in multiplayer gaming.

Just finished it in one sitting, 4 player legendary session!

It looks amazing, however performance is very dodgy in big fights. Framerate dropped to single digits for all of us. Not sure if that's just because it was online 4 player or not, though.

I thought the things 343 have done with the series is very interesting, but it's still very much Halo. I wished they had changed more.

Overall, a good game that was really fun, but not a spectacular evolution of the series.

Look forward to playing MP!

The only point I noticed dips was on checkpoints/loading in solo. Definitely co-op issues.

I'm having the opposite feeling. I used to be just meh at Halo, and the last two days of war games have me wondering if everyone playing Halo 4 has never played Halo in their lives.

I was DMRing completely stationary enemies and winning 1 on 1's all day. I'm not amazing at the game. I just assume everyone else is new.

is this in the infinity playlist?

I'm running into fairly decent SR30+ players on a frequent basis.

I'm playing BT Infinity Slayer mostly.

I'm no doubt playing against some decent players, but I'm still coming out ahead in a lot of 1 on 1's. I'm not trying to pat my own back or anything, but this is definitely a very different experience than I had playing Reach.

As reference, my last game had a lot of SR20-30 players on it. I'm still only SR13 (haven't played much MP yet)

Why is
Palmer surprised that the Prometheans are working with the Covenant? Seems like something the Master Chief would have included in his report.

I was actually wondering the exact same thing.

I assume that CAMPAIGN SPOILERS:
it's because they believe the Didact is dead, and since he was the one that brought them together, it's bad news if they still are.

played some MP for the first time last night, really not like the UI and it seems like a huge step back from Reach. The maps themselves seem miles ahead of Reach and Halo 3's.

vatstep

This poster pulses with an appeal so broad the typical restraints of our societies fall by the wayside.
Goddamn those fucking Promethean dog-like-things and their flanking skills.

Meh, The only map I really like so far is Haven. Haven't played much bigger maps since BTB is such a cluster fuck.

they are by far my lease favorite designed Prometheans, but definitely the most interesting to fight...just really hate the "claw mouth" look

havent toucheed BTB yet, but have played several matches on Haven, Adrift, Complex and Abandon... complex being by far my least favorite. I really like the other 3, even Adrift which to me seems to be a progression of Reach's Countdown map which I hated

Yep. They're decent at luring you into a false sense of security before pouncing en masse. You let even a small batch of them surround you and that withering fire will destroy you real quick.

I don't mind the Crawler design (the insectoid look across all three Promethean units is an interesting way to display the "hive mind/security drone" mentality) but I do think the face could use some touch ups, as well as the rank variations. "LET'S ADD SPIKES" is an obvious indicator, but also lazy, honestly. It in part has to do with how similar some of the big weapon silhouettes are for Promethean weapons are, notably the Binary and Light Rifles, similar to the Shotgun and DMR in Reach. I'll try and do a study and revise their designs when I get home.

I heard some bad things about coop campaign lag-wise.

I already lost my money once with Halo CEA, I won't do the same mistake again.

So, is it that bad ?
