Halo 4 Story Spoilers and Speculations

She clearly said most of her is "down there" referring to the just nuked space ship. I think it's going to be shitty if they just bring that Cortana back. They had their moment. She died. Leave it at that. Move on to something else.

I'd usually agree with you, but it's not like that. There's no other routes they can take with Chief, as Cortana was the only thing that gave him some character. She'll definitely be back, if they really want to expand on Chief.

- You shouldn't need to see the corpse of a person who doesn't have a body (most of the time).
- Jul and the rest of his species are not in-game characters. Maybe Traviss will describe what happens to him one day, but in the game he's nothing more than another one of Didact's pets. Though it's not like he really matters even in the expanded universe at this point - take him out and something else will take his place.
- Because "alive" might mean a different thing to a guy who died a pretty long time ago.

I killed a lot of Sanghelli in the game.

As for Jul, I really think they should have built him up as another character in game. It wouldn't have taken much exposition to describe him as a radical who was leading the charge for the new Covenant. Make him into a character like they did with the Arbiter.

Won't happen. There doesn't need to be a lot of anything left of Cortana for her to still be alive. There is still a lot of stuff about her and specifically what happened to her in the game left unresolved.

When the Librarian was talking to Chief, she was also doing something with Cortana. She did something to Cortana, either helped her along the evolutionary path just like she did with Chief, or something else. The Librarian wouldn't mention Cortana as being important if she wasn't important.

God, can you imagine? 343 starts making Halo games without Cortana, the naked blue sex symbol nerd wet-dream. Won't fucking happen.

And not a single one of them was a character.

yep.

The cutscenes were gorgeous beyond measure, but I would like to have a few moments where you stumble upon history in the making in-game.

Halo 4, as a complete package (waypoint videos, story expanding books), works well to tell a story.

YET, the in-game narration stumbles. I think the cutscenes are overbudget for any studio expect a MS flagship one, but I dare any dev of Halo 4 to come forward and say they didn't build more interactions to focus on Chief/Cortana, I think it's safe to say it was a harder than anticipated job to stir the franchise into mature/story matters territory.

As a fan, thejob is well done enough for me. I don't feel cheated I bought LE edtion, books, CD, artworks...

But the CoD ending was too much, and nobody who hasn't played the previous games can understand the story.

that said, If I were 12 today and just blown trough Halo 4, this would be my Star Wars.

Is Didact super ugly because is Bornstellar Didact and his mutations were fast and ugly?

both sexy Didact from lve cutscene and angry Didact look pretty much the same.
the in-game one has a more fanatical, angrier tone.

didact is ugly because Forerunners are ugly
that said, ancient humans are all mayans/indians

that said, I'm still looking for a Play Arts Didact figure, with the humbler armor he rocks before going to Requiem.

- Jeniffer Hale Spartan teaming up with him.
- New Cortana.
- New Cortana that has parts of old Cortana.
- Old Cortana becomes some super AI, eventually turns into fully human. MC and Cortana bang.

Those are the ways I can see it going.

Well, that's how I also meant bringing her back. I thought you meant permanently ousting her.

I'd like to see THAT Cortana gone for good. Sort of like how Data died in Star Trek but the replica of him still lived. I think Chief being cold and distant towards a new cortana AI would be interesting to see.

Quicky question :

Halsey intro : does it point to a new program to build as efficient as SII soldiers (considering the SIV program has been underway for a year or two, and its goal has not been to replace SII but rather build a stronger than ODSTs group) or simply a mood setter that introduces the Chief as a special someone?

Halsey knows about SIV for as long as she's been held captive, so that she considers the line of questionning is new and "special" did make me ask what the other guy's purpose is.

or is it post Halo 4 events, with ONI looking for clues on how to get the Chief "behave" under its orders now that he's a more independent character, especially in the light of his failure to save the blue princess, and his defiance towards command in the heat of battle.

also, since he's the only human able toresist the Composer, wouldn't ONI have him subdued the minute he touches Earth's ground and have him dissected?

Neat? I heard her condescend marines (crap about how Spartans get the job done faster, not like those guys are risking their lives without your armour or anything) and the science guy during the second SO mission
She's got some fire. Hale does a good military voice.

And neat as in they could do something with her character in a future installment.

The only time the familiar Cortana needs to appear again is in the end of the trilogy when they both go to machine heaven.

I loved that end line in end of this game "She said that too once"

Often times this game got pretty sappy, trying just a little too hard

But that last scene had the right tone

There were a lot of cheesy lines in this game. (paraphrased)

"Don't make a promise to a girl, you can't keep"
"I've been waiting to do that" (when she touches him)
"Try to figure out which one of us is the machine" (or something along that)
"She said that too, once"

Just so many cheesy lines delivered by an AI to a super soldier. But they still seemed to work in this game, even though I cringed for some of them.

I liked it but any of those would look hilariously bad out of context.

Having only read Cryptum and just beat the game last night, I am assuming the Didacts speach at the end was him going on trial before being imprisoned on Requiem, would I be correct?

Also crazy they killed off Cortana, but well done.

I disagree, Cortana is a huge part of the Master Chief story. I believe we will see her again.

Yes, the Didact's speech at the end is from the past.

I think Cortana being gone is a necessary first step towards Chief possibly having relationships with other characters.

Halsey, the Arbiter and Blue Team all have existing connections to him
Lasky could be a strong secondary character, Palmer too
A clone Cortana could introduce an interesting dynamic

Most of the characters that actually have large roles in the previous games have either died or are off doing other things, so I'd like it if Chief could make connections with some of these other characters in future Halo games in ways other than taking orders from them. In 4 at least Chief had a few verbal scuffles with Del Rio, which made him a character and not just the guy putting waypoints on your HUD.

All I'ma say is that showing his face (even partially) teeters on jumping the shark.

Besides, they already showed it in Halo CE's ending.

This is the only really lame line. I really hate it. The scene would work even better without the chief saying anything. Rest are decent.

Indeed, only one that fell flat was the last. We know what she said to him and we know it must always be close to mind for him. Having him explicitly say that for the player to hear was well-intentioned but unnecessary.

I have a feeling this game is meant to be like Halo 1 where there isn't much back story explained about the enemy, and then in Halo 2 we start to examine their motives more. Playing Halo 1, we really didn't know much at all about the Covenant except we were at interstellar war with aliens.

Question about Halsey-how did she get off Reach? I thought she died there that day.

Yeah, I definitely got a Halo CE vibe to how the story was laid out.

I haven't read Fall of Reach in awhile, but I believe she knocked out Kelly somehow and jacked a UNSC medical ship, and then headed for Onyx.

EDIT: Nope, that's what happens at the end of First Strike.

It's going to be interesting where they go with this actually. ONI definitely will try if they find out. But will he just go with it?

In First Strike, he was presented the choice whether to submit some data about Johnson's immunity against the flood and he chose against it knowing it could pretty much condemn him to death

Hm, what is the lifespan of a SPARTAN anyway? Is it lower then that of a normal human.

I think longer, but who knows. Also factor in the Crysosleep for years that most of the people in the Halo universe use on a regular basis and age becomes pretty relative anyway.

Your quote credit is wrong, I did a double take haha.

I'm pretty sure they retconned it in in the new fall of reach book that Jun died saving her from the not yet Arbiter (Thel Vadamee or something). Which continues the series greatest problems of having all of these awesome important moments that are not in the game. Reach was about the heroic sacrifices of Noble team but the whole thing felt incomplete because one of those heroic sacrifices takes place off screen in the back of a re-issued novel.

I thought it was Jun that helped her get off Reach. Emile died in the game, but Jun took off.

The original Ur-Didact does not have fangs; the Bornstellar one does, and the one depicted in Halo 4 does as well.

Yeah, there are two different Didacts in the terminals.

Hold on. Wait.

You mean ever since Reach came out I didn't know that it overwrote a good third of First Strike? Incredible.

I mean, First Strike is a ridiculous book for a variety of reasons, and Jun getting Halsey off the planet makes "more sense," but c'mon.

yep. a tiny dent on an otherwise awesome end sequence. my worst nightmare is for chief to get Other M'd. SO MANY FEELINGS I MUST EXPRESS THEM

I love Bungie and all, but man, they just didn't care about canon at all when they made Reach.

I think everything they changed was ultimately for the better, but I can still remember their forums going insane over the all the changes the day after the game came out.

Reading through halopedia I don't see a lot of this fitting together, Halsey gives the piece of Cortana to Noble team to deliver to the PoA and then days later spartan 117 helps her escape Castle base?

I knew I wasn't just making it up, turns out they never explicitly state that its him, but Jun is supposed to be the one guarding Halsey and the heroic sacrifice would fall in line with the others.

This refers to Halo Legends episode Package, which happens way before 2552 when the Battle of Reach was fought.
Jun's fate is left open.
