Seriously. I popped this in for the first time today as I actually had some SP time to the system and it may very well be the first game where the enemies actually feel real. Even one zombie I "prepare" for. Especially compared to other zombie games like L4D where they feel like one hit kills. Man oh man I love that game.
And here I was turning sour on it after buying it but before playing because there were so many complaints.
Yeah, yeah. Competition and all that but I swear. Every company gets a few things right and if I could just combine different ideas from different companies we could all have great devices.
Yes, but only if you're sprinting. I had this amazing escape followed by an unexpected death. Spoilers I guess:
So about an hour in, you encounter a gigantic mob of zombies. Maybe like 7-9, which feels impossible to take. The game gives you something to help you but I fumbled and they were on me like ravenous wolves. I immediately thought "NOPE." and ran for it. I outran them but these guys aren't necessarily slow. I ran all the way back to the sewers and lost em...but I knew they had followed me. I could hear them right outside the door. So I prepared myself, equipped a few grenades, loaded up my pistol, and opened the door.
4 zombies came rushing in. I pop the first one in the head a few times and it goes down. The others are coming fast. I unload my clip but they're still coming. Switch to bat, shove them away, throw a grenade. I overshoot. Back up into a wall, throw another grenade, it bounces off of the nearest one and lands at my feet. I realize I need to gtfo of there but just at that moment, I get bitten and go down like a chump. The 3 remaining zombies all pile on me...moments before the grenade explodes, taking them all out.
Suffice it to say, my heart was racing the entire time. Not a bad way to go out though if I do say so myself :-D

Played a few minutes of Rayman at GameStop today. The controller feels way better than it thought it would. And the screen is huge. If it were more powerful (even slightly) or a little bit cheaper, I would impulse buy. As it is though, I can't justify $350 just yet.

It's not about being "super awesome," "Oh my goodness, sweety! I can watch Star Trek TNG for eight hours straight and eat steak hoagies until my heart explodes?! You rock!" It's called being reasonable and discussing your hobbies, budget and preferences before you get married and then sticking to your guns and neither side being allowed to use double standards on the other. But yes, my wife is indeed awesome and I try my best to be a good husband.
Currently, you can only post the current screencap from a game (TV output or GamePad screen) to Miiverse. There's no saving to external storage, and that itself won't be useful at the moment since once you format its filesystem for Wii U, you cannot use a PC to read from it.

There's an AC3 360 vs WiiU video on youtube. Wii U looks like it got a fairly good port, but it's clearly inferior to the 360 version in that it has a constant haziness to it that the 360 version in the video doesn't have. There's also some performance issues, which aren't as constant or bad as the awful Batman port. As others have said, BLOPS in multiplayer appears to be a good 60 FPS most of the time. Single player is decidedly inferior when it comes to framerate, unfortunately. Most complaints I've seen lobbed at the game have nothing to do with the graphics, but everything to do with the layout of the controller. Not sure why Nintendo thought it was wise sticking the buttons under the right stick. It's the best version if you want to play local splitscreen, though.

This comforts my future gaming prospects somewhat.
Can it really be described as "Big"? The last million seller in the series was over a decade ago. Unless you count Nintendoland.
It's a good step, because it keeps Nintendo's offerings broader in category and higher in quality. But it doesn't leave that much of an impact.

I think that's actually remedied by using component cables. Eurogamer actually covered this and it's because the HDMI connection for some reason doesn't allow for full RGB.
Apparently though, they expect it to be fixed. So I don't think it's actually an issue with the game, but more with the HDMI output.

I ordered one from Amazon after noticing a couple minor scratches from playing Nintendo Land with my niece. :-\

Are the eshop games so far impressing? I've heard chatter basically about one of them (edit: Nano Assault Neo, I think it was) that has graphics that put almost all of the retail titles to shame, but I'd like to know how the general slate of offerings is.

Considering the graph shows a separate row for the Original Wii (which happens to be on the bottom of the graph), I think its safe to say they already know the difference.

Is noone else having problems with their TV? I'm at my cousin's house and the TV picture is cutting off the left and right (don't remember if top or bottom).
Googled around a bit and found a few threads of other people with the same problem. Multiple different brands of TVs. Multiple sizes.
Some fixed it by changing some settings on the TV, but this TV doesn't have that ability.

My buddy is in trouble with his new wife because he doesn't want her grubby friend playing with his Wii U while he goes to work. She's getting all teary and shouty because "YOU DON'T TRUST ME!"

Look for the Overscan thread. It's all about this problem. I corrected it on my TV, but the Wii U is still putting an ugly bad down the left hand side of the TV. I've done all I can do now and must wait like everyone else for a patch.

I really wish the consoles makers would stick with a matte finish instead of the shiny plastic. That's the one thing I love about my PS3 slim!

Im not going to lie, every time i go into the miiverse i get tempted to draw one.
It really does to me, and I say that having played Ps3/360 with Move/Kinect and all the goodies. This feels different. This feels pretty innovative and special.
LOVE IT.
Its not without faults but it feels genuinely fresh and exciting.

I totally agree. That would have to be my big complaint about both the PS3 and the WII U. It makes them huge fingerprint magnets and just make them look a lot worse in general. But alas that's the price i pay for loving my games. lol

We haven't told any of my wife's extended family about the system yet, because we know that if we do before the launch hype wears off, all of my nephews will be over wanting to play it. We MIGHT take it over to the in-laws on Thanksgiving, but I'm leaning toward no.
On an unrelated note, went to Gamestop and grabbed AC3, and Rabbids Party. I don't know anything about Rabbids Party other than that it has the Rabbids and that Destructoid described it as Wii U Mario Party. (And my wife LOVES Mario Party.) Anyone play it?
