Is Walking Dead pc saves still broke?

Now all the eps are out and apparently the game is alright, was wondering which version to get (got iphone, ps3, pc). PC version seems to be on sale a bunch, but I recall hearing save issues transferring between games a few months ago. That still an issue?

Yes and it is a real shame that they haven't done anything about this since launch. It took me 5 times to get my save to start episode 5. Luckily I was burned the first episode and ever since have made multiple backups.

Yep. They don't care and won't respond to complaints. Horrible company.

I never had the save issue on PC.

I did! I lost my save between ep1 and ep2, which is why I haven't touched the series since.

I figured I'd just wait until all the episodes were released and any such issues had been hammered out.

Also I couldn't get this episode to boot for the longest time until I saw on the help forums someone say that the 360 controller was the issue. So if it won't even start you need to turn your 360 controller off

I still have my save files but I've tried reinstalling, save swapping and everything and the game still doesn't recognize my files. I have no motivation to play through the episodes I've completed already and I don't want to risk the chance of making choices that were different from my initial playthrough. I was really enjoying the series.

I had a warning where it told me that the game would randomly generate choices for missed episodes, my save was in-tact though with no skipped episodes. I pressed okay after freaking out a little bit and everything was cool and my choices carried through.

I started episode one a few months ago, resumed this week, finished off last night, started episode two and my choices carried over fully I think. So I dunno. (Steam, PC version).

I've never had a problem with my saves but my stats have been busted for the past two episodes. I'm expecting the end of Episode 5 to be complete with cryptic variable names in place of something meaningful.

Is there anyway to download a save with a description of choices made? My save is gone(not sure what happened), and I really want to play episode 5. I just can't make myself play it without my choices.

Damn, i was just about to get this from the steam sales.
I guess it's safer to hold out and see if they fix it? Or is there no hope?

The problem is that it saves out your choices to a prefs file (prefs.prop, I think?) in a directory in your My Documents folder, but on every successive load of the game, it tries to load from a similar prefs file in your steamapps folder.

If you're having problems on PC, copying the file from your My Documents folder to the Steamapps folder will fix it, for the next time you play the game.

Yep, lost all my choices for ep4 and just now ep 5 too. Pretty shoddy to be honest!

The prefs trick worked for me with eps 1 and 2 but from 3 onwards I've been shit outta luck.

Why are people posting they've never had a problem? That's normal! If the majority of people had problems there would be a shit storm on the Internet.

The problem very much does exist, but it obviously doesn't affect everyone. Unfortunately, (last I checked at least) Telltale has been silent on the issue.

My saves got fucked between episodes 4 and 5. It's been a known issue for months and they haven't done anything to fix it.

FYI, this isn't always the case. My saves got fucked over but there was no prefs.prop file in the steamapps folder.

hmmm... might just get the ios version then. $20 isn't too bad and i might actually finish it on a portable lol.

so how long does the whole 'season' take about to finish?

I had that problem where it didn't recognize my save when I started episode 4. Tried various fixes and nothing worked.

Each episode averaged around a couple of hours. There's hardly any actual gameplay so you will probably fly through them.

Went to start Episode 5 and my saves were gone. :( Played it anyway with randomized choices that turned out to be pretty close to the ones I made, but still, feels bad man.

Pretty pathetic that this is still a problem, and copying over the saves meant I couldn't Rewind or check my Choices.

Telltale is historically awful when it comes to supporting their games. Many bugs just never go away.

At least their licensing department spares no expense!

So since choices don't get saved, i can just watch the game on youtube and have the same experience?

I was able to mostly recover my saves by starting a new save game in chapter 4, then copying the content of my old save game into the newly created save file. This worked, and I was back at the end of chapter 4. Except for some reason, I now have saved Doug instead of Carly, but the rest of my choices seem to be reflected correctly.

No, because there isn't a linear progression.

I see, but the non linearity has no lasting consequence, with this bug, rendering it at least somewhat pointless.
I haven't played the game, but if it's anything similar to Heavy Rain, it's a pretty big deal when some characters can or cannot die before time, and stuff like this.

Can't find this file at all. Not in Steamapps > common > the walking dead.

I had this bug for the first time today. I copied the file from a folder within steamapps called walkingdead104 or something like that (not at computer now) and copied it to the walking dead folder in my documents. Saw this solution on page 1 of the telltale forums.

Edit - scratch that, I'm not sure which folder I copied it from and to. It's all on the forum tho.

Oh wait so there is a solution to the bug? I can buy the game then?

I just got my saved games deleted for again. I've had nothing but problems with this game. Bought the game right after episode 3 came out. Tried to play and I immediately got "Walkingdead101.exe has stopped working" errors. Ended up fixing that and played the first 2 episodes just fine after that. When I started up episode 3 the next day my saves were gone. I tried everything that I could find at the time to try and get them back but wasn't able to. I really didn't want to replay through all of episodes 1 and 2 again so soon so I decided to wait until all 5 episodes were out to restart.

I got half way through episode 1 earlier this week and then started getting hit by the "Walkingdead101.exe has stopped working" errors again. This time running the game in compatibility mode and as admin were not working. Tried again yesterday and it decided to work. Finished episode 2 and stopped for the day. When I started the game up today, it only had one save from the very start of episode 1. I decided to just go straight into episode 3 and use whatever choices where made by the game if you skipped the first 2. Also had decided to just go through episodes 3, 4 and 5 in one sitting so the game wouldn't have a chance to delete my saves after I exited the game.

Just finished episode 3 30 minutes ago and I'm sitting here waiting for the credits to finish so I could start 4. I try to continue onto episode 4 but it says that I don't have it installed even though I know I do. I check the other episodes and none of them are installed even though I just finished episode 3. Against my better judgement I decided to restart the game. It now shows that all episodes are installed again but my saves once again gone. I don't see how it's possible for this to even happen.

I love the game but it's been a technical mess for me. If and when they make a season 2, I may just save myself the hassle and watch a Let's Play for it if they can't fix these problems that they seem to have been having since the game launched.

There's a user created workaround (damn u telltale) but as someone said above it might not always work.

Wow, yeah, i'll just pass on this.
There'll be other sales and, if they decide to actually give a shit and fix it, they'll have my money then.

okay so I load it up, go to ep 4 and it says "continue" instead of rewind and stats, even though I alreadyfinished it

I press continue anyway, get thrown into the last 5 minutes of the game. Okay. played those, now that I finished it with the same decisions I made before it says ep 5 is "coming soon" instead of installed

I quit out, launch it again: same deal as the first time, doesnt recognize ep 4 as finished.

Yeah, lost my save after episode 2 and said screw it. Now that all episodes are out, I'll give it a full playthrough and hope for the best.

Yep I have had nothing but problems on my playthrough so far.

Finished episode 1 fine.

Started episode 2 and all the choices in my game were wrong...
So I found a .prefs fix on the forums and it seemed to fix it ok.

Started episode 3, and my save game reported I was only at episode 1... so I just went to episode select and chose episode 3. All my choices seemed to carry over ok, though some things seemed odd here and there.
Also at the end of this playthrough instead of listing the choices that were made by the players of the game it simply listed choice 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 as the text, so I had no idea what each of the choices actually were....

Loaded it up to play episode 4 the other day, and yep same problem, game lists my save file as being in Episode 1.
It's sucking a lot of the enjoyment out of the game for me, but I'll forge ahead and finish the last two episodes in the coming days just to experience it. Most of the choices don't seem to even matter in the end anyways. (From my 1-3 playthrough experience)

This! What the fuck?! I've gone this far I am not randomly generating a story to finish this game. Come on!

I have the same problem. This solution below worked.

The annoying thing though is you have to keep copying over the save if you want to reload.

I didn't have any problems.
When I play, I always finish one episode and just week ago, I've finished second one.
I hope it will continue as long as I will finish one ep in one play.
