I kind of blame Jexhius for making me notice this stuff.

The cabbage leaf is shaped like a heart, when she hears that her onii-chan wants to visit his waifu, she splits it in half, symbolizing her breaking heart.

Fate Zero counts because it's split cour but Chihayafuru doesn't, this seems like a silly distinction.

My personal belief is that TV shows which air during the year, whether or not they started that year, should be eligible for Anime of the Year voting. If someone wants to vote for, say, the new Hunter X Hunter in their 2012 list because they feel that the portion of it that aired in 2012 was some of the best anime to come out during the year, why shouldn't they be allowed to? In particular, restricting two-cour anime spanning fall and winter and saying you have to judge them before they're finished seems rather arbitrary to me. (The latter wouldn't be such a problem if voting was held later than January, of course.)

Same for OVAs spanning multiple years (e.g., Akito, Yamato).

Where is your list? Come on now.
Too early. I have to check on some stuff again and look over what came out.

#1 is that hidden box Imouto show where the guy has to marry a girl but one of them is his sister. Obviously.

still not posting my list until the AotY thread is up. Lists are sacred, yo.

It is, but I only say it because that's how it's been done in the past. For those who think that the rule is dumb, what would be preferable: shows airing in two different years being eligible in both years of their airing, or only being eligible the year that they finish?

Genshiken 01

Time to start a new show! This wasn't a bad first episode. Rather impressed with the direction of the show such as walking to the club room and during the whole choose your club hallway. It was mostly an intro episode though it did have a trollish opening where I thought I was watching the wrong show.

You should be able to vote on anything that airs (or for movies, released to the home market) in that calendar year, I don't see the need or purpose for arbitrary restrictions. And I seem to recall a bunch of people saying they wanted to see how Chihayafuru ended up before voting on it last year.

Acchi Kocchi is my favorite happy squee junkfood but its not AOTY material.

:( Oh well, I guess it's cuteness is enough for me.

I'll be interested to see who ranks their stuff critically and who ranks their stuff based on personal fun factor, although for most people here I assume it'll be one and the same.

For me it's always kind of a mix of both.

I guess right now it'd be:

1) Ano Natsu de Matteru
2) Chuu2Byou
3) Acchi Kocchi
4) Hyouka
5) Space Brothers
6) Daily Lives of High School Boys
7) Bodacious Space Pirates
8) Kids on the Slope
9) Yuru Yuri S2
10) I don't have a number 10 yet.

I'm sad no one has Kokoro Connect on their list. It's a good show.

I'll have it, I'm just kind of lost on how to order things past my top 4. My list will probably be something like this:

1) Hyouka
2) Fate/zero
3) Space Brothers
4) Kids on a Slope
Daily Lives of High School Boys
Kokoro Connect
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
Humanity has Declined
Blast of Tempest
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

Tempest could drop out if it falls hard, and the ordering is mostly arbitrary for now, but I actually want to list 10 shows this year. And I need to finish Tsuritama.

I enjoyed it but at the same time it wasn't remarkable enough to have much impact on me. I liked the characters, their interactions between each other, and I personally thought the drama and romance was handled relatively well. Other than that though I can't say it was memorable enough to warrant a spot on my list. I am still curious to see how the series end with the last arc.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure 8

Perhaps my anime interests are just failing to align with this but I just cant get into it anymore. The whole episode was a drag, mind kept wondering off comparing the green sparkles to those of Aeolia Schenberg's GN particles and stuff, and then just being unexcited through the fight. For a vampire of sorts, Dio is sure falling down in being a good one compared to others ones I encountered :( and characters seem way more blocky than usual which is disappointing. JoJo himself was kind of disappointing too
is he trying to kill himself, I mean consistently going right in harms way, being frozen, and really only winning because of some small fluke and technicality, no way that what he did got rid of Dio for good, especially after what we saw in the previous episode...the laser from dio was amazing though
. Someone said not to watch the preview, so I didnt.

The section of the ED used for the ending moment of the episode is my favorite, like the final twenty or so seconds of it.

All I know is that we already do the "home market release" exception for films due to obvious geographic restrictions. For instance, Hells Angels will be eligible this year even though it was originally screened in 2008 because it finally got a home release this year.

Series that air in two different calendar years are definitely the more difficult issue to consider. I'm personally okay with it (although ultimately, my vote would be for eligibility being based on the calendar year in which a series ends rather than begins), but I guess that the main concerns are that no one wants to risk one show winning two AotYs or that no one wants the endless shounens siphoning votes every year off of smaller shows that deserve more visibility. Of course, there can be rules implemented to prevent these scenarios from happening, but that's the issue as I understand it.

Odd, because her singing voice seems way less off this time. Maybe she just tweaked it. Either way, it seems less off this time because I'm pretending that the cast of SEED are all adults now, even though they're probably teens. Also, where did
Andy Waltfeld get another arm? He only had one at the end of SEED.

Gurren Lagann 10 I've changed my mind. I hate Nia completely and totally and this show will be considered on a downhill slope if I have to go two more episodes of Simone pulling a damn Shinji Ikari over
Kamina's death. Also if Kamina is dead for the rest of this show, I will be inclined to agree that the second half is bull. First 8 episodes are fun and fast-paced and I'm now two or three episodes into this mopefest and tired of it.
.

I hate Nia because she's an obvious and painfully annoying Mary Sue. Red cross eyes are frustrating to look at, weird sky and cloud hair, too, but the worst part is that she's sickly-sweet and perfect princessy. She's like Lacus but worse.

Oh and I hate Hime and Gime and wish they had died in that village's ceremony. I'm hoping they've been kept alive solely for the purpose of killing them off and allowing Rossio some more character development. Because Rossio gets no damn respect on that boat.

It gets much better, seriously. I like you already for hating Nia.

Yeah, it seems silly. Either Fate/Zero shouldn't count because it was a 2011 show, or Chihayafuru should because it continued airing in 2012. I would be fine with either one, but having one count and one not is kind of silly.
