If you can't connect to anyone in Assassin's Creed 3 on Wii U...

Looking at miiverse there are a lot of people complaining that there are no games on AssCreed3... I was one of them. So I got on miiverse, complained, and got a few people on my friends list and together we managed to not be able to join any games together...

Finding this rather odd and telling, I shoved my Wii U into my router's DMZ zone. Whala! Suddenly I'm able to join and play games almost instantly. Success I thought! Well it's great for me, but there isn't a real great way to tell everyone there is some sort of port blocking problem going on.

Oddly enough, this never affected me in other AssCreed games on PS3, so I'm not sure if AssCreed 3 is being effected on all systems, or if the Wii U uses a non-standard port (maybe an intentional oversight to cover people playing with multiple systems?).

I'm also not sure if this affects any other game as AssCreed 3 is my only online multiplayer... I didn't have any problems before on Miiverse or Nintendo Land, and sadly I don't know how to monitor which port the game is using so that alone could be forwarded... but since I'm not especially worried about my Wii U being hacked, I'm okay with leaving it in the DMZ till a better solution is found.

Yeah I tried to play online on Assassin's Creed 3 Wii U a few days ago but I wasn't able to play with anyone.

NAT is a bitch and the sooner it dies the sooner online gaming becomes better.

I usually just DMZ my Xbox to get it out of closed/moderate NAT. So I'd just do the same to the Wii U.

This about the best I've found, though it only says X-box 360 so I can't be sure it'll work for Wii U as well...

Entry #1

We will list a series of lines here that will show you exactly how to forward the ports you need to forward. XBOX360 Assassins Creed III requires you to forward the following ports: 3074. Go ahead and enter the settings shown above into the Single Port Forwarding or Port Range Forwarding menu.

I actually had to stop playing cause my controller died so I can't test it right now, but I will when I get the chance if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Black Ops 2 is the same way. By default it's throwing people into the online with strict NATs it seems. I wouldn't be surprised if this is accounts for the low population. People simply not being able to join matches or it taking forever and they are moving on to play something else. Had to throw my Wii U onto the DMZ this evening after giving it a static IP address to see if it would cause a change for the better and it did. This shouldn't need to be done. Sucks that AC3 is having the same issues.

It does seem like the Wii has some blocking issues. There have to be more than 700 people with Wii Us playing Black Ops 2.

There could be only 700 online, but the numbers will be lower if people TRY and can't join a game quickly. No one is going to stick around if they can't get into a game after 5 minutes, and after a couple days of trying on and off they likely won't be bothered to try again.
