Looking at miiverse there are a lot of people complaining that there are no games on AssCreed3... I was one of them. So I got on miiverse, complained, and got a few people on my friends list and together we managed to not be able to join any games together...
Finding this rather odd and telling, I shoved my Wii U into my router's DMZ zone. Whala! Suddenly I'm able to join and play games almost instantly. Success I thought! Well it's great for me, but there isn't a real great way to tell everyone there is some sort of port blocking problem going on.
Oddly enough, this never affected me in other AssCreed games on PS3, so I'm not sure if AssCreed 3 is being effected on all systems, or if the Wii U uses a non-standard port (maybe an intentional oversight to cover people playing with multiple systems?).
I'm also not sure if this affects any other game as AssCreed 3 is my only online multiplayer... I didn't have any problems before on Miiverse or Nintendo Land, and sadly I don't know how to monitor which port the game is using so that alone could be forwarded... but since I'm not especially worried about my Wii U being hacked, I'm okay with leaving it in the DMZ till a better solution is found.
