Oh, I forgot to ask:

Do any regular EuroGAFfers need a specialization code? I found an extra on an old account I played on earlier.

^ The gametypes are horrible how? It's your basic Halo gametypes since the beginning of time. Most of them just need respawn timers and they're fine.
No classic slayer, no consistent weapon spawns, personal ordinances, random power weapons, CTF changes, regicide FFA is terrible, no 1-flag, no assault, ect.

Halo 2/3 with a 'loadout' system which let you choose between spawning with BR or AR would have been great.

I think the playlist management has been great personally in terms of gametypes.
Or just let everyone spawn with both an AR and a BR. I never understood why they didn't just do this across the board.

Because then AR rushers would be mad. Yeah, the whole "AR vs BR" debate never really should've happened in the first place if they just stuck to Slayer Pro settings from CE. Start with a bad automatic and your utility precision weapon, what's not to love?

Slayer Pro is good, just needs respawn timers.

I'd actually take better teammate indicators over instant respawns.

The playlists are good because you always know what you're gonna get. Downside is we have no BTB objective, no extraction yet (even though its on the disc), and its not really playlists but it takes a year to find a game sometimes.

Personally I think it should be something like.

Objective ---> three cards each a different objective on a random map. This way you wont have people voting for maps and more maps would be played cause people would want specific gametypes over maps (most likely). You then get all three playlists consolidated into one, yet the option to pick each gametype is always there. Reach had it started well but the cards that could get shown during voting were bad. Sometimes youd see like duplicates of certain maps or playlists, you'd probably want to preconstruct voting cards with a good spread and just randomly choose a voting card.

Slayer would get its own playlists based on settings and there you would more be voting on diff maps because of how static Slay is as a gametype. Possibly you could have Infinity Slayer/Infinity Slayer Classic. If true options were ever implemented to make it feasible. Then a Mercenaries playlist like Infiinity Slayer/Slayer on the cards. This would allow two playlists to essentially have four gametypes and as long as you have a general party you should be able to get what you want pretty often. If not it won't be terrible as you'll always get something CLOSE to what you started out to play.

This would keep large pools of populations for better trueskill MM. So once people leave and you get a high trueskill you don't have to wait a long time for proper matches.

You could also have a party games playlist and incorporate a few different gametypes that people are wanting permanently. I'd hope they've learned and made the voting system very flexible in this Halo.

Ok? It's not like this wasn't already happening with Reach.

The playlists are the best they've ever been in a Halo game.
Now I love the game but I'm sorry but this is false. If you compare the organization of these playlists compared to how the playlists/gametype rotations were set up in Halo 3 it isn't really close. For example why does oddball and Koth have their own playlist. Why not fuse them together in an objective playlist?

I'm probably not explaining myself well but I think they are doing a poor job of handling the playlists. There is no need to swap out playlists every two weeks or so. Give us the whole smash.

The core gameplay is extremely fun. I love the new additions to the game. Just add some classic playlists/gametypes and please add some variety to the maps. Vortex looks quite similar to one of the maps coming out tomorrow.

Because if you fuse all of the objective gametypes together, people never vote for stuff like KOTH or Oddball.

So, when are the maps expected to hit anyways?

I can barely talk about this game without getting angry which is why I barely post in the thread.

understandable, I'm again raging how dumb camo is as an AA. I think it is worse than Jetpack.
And gametypes like Dominion could actually be fun, if not everyone gets an Power Weapon and the spawns.. oh my god these spawns ..

Random Ordnance is the icing on the cake, but I have to admit that the game can be really good and is better than reach

Well duh, Halo just doesn't have the staying power it used to. No one knows the exact reasons, but I would bet that if you stripped the game of everything and made it like Halo 2 it still wouldn't have a large population. Hopefully Halo 2 Anny supports online and we can really find out if the people really did just want an updated stripped down version of Halo.

  • Halo 2 Anniversary releases with online multiplayer and resets Halo's direction.
  • 10 years after that, people are finally fed up with 99% of FPS games trying the "CoD style" flavor while Halo continued down a path started by Halo 2. However, people grow bored of it too.
  • At its 20 year anniversary, Halo 1 gets remade with online multiplayer..
    bringing world peace

I can see it happening.

On the discussion of playlists, I wonder what'll happen with Slayer Pro once KotH is removed. If anything they'll probably just remove OB..

This game would play great everyone starting off with BR/AR spawns while having the other loadout weapons spread around the map.

If Halo 2/3 had this game's BR/AR.. damn.

Thanks to Deadnames for the spec code, very generous!

WOW. That is exactly what I was asking for from Halo 4, back in July

I'm baffled at how COD continues to improve and innovate its meta features whilst Halo's stagnate or flat out degenerate. It's a real kick in the teeth for Halo fans.

I think COD can afford to try new things like video features because they have their formula nailed down and only make small tweaks year to year like Madden. They also have two developers working so they have a lot of manpower behind it.

Halo had the formula nailed for Combat Evolved.

For us personally, the issues add up. We like to do content on HaloCouncil and we are severely crippled by:
  • Theater being broken (no sounds)
[*]Fileshare broken (no gametype sharing, hard for Jazzy to get clips)
  • Broken Forge Options (cant make maps like 3/R)
  • Custom game options severely limited
  • Spartan Ops, well being Spartan Ops.
  • BTB.net and no objective for their playlist

That's just on the website side.

Me personally, one of my favorite past times on HaloGAF is playing Double Team with Risen, he usually got on in the afternoon for his lunch break or w/e and we could play for a few ours during Reach. Now we can't at all.

I really want to like Halo 4, but 343 hasn't really picked up any slack for the community, yay they got rid of 2 glitches and fixed some minor things but THEY HAVEN'T said a peep about much more than a small map is coming. The thing that sucks too is they are really nice folks at the company and I don't like talking down about it, but it's been a month and they are on vacation.

I don't even know if it's 343 or MS but someone is seriously hurting the image of the franchise, losing the customer base, and pissing off the old fan in a perfect trifecta.

Only glimmer of hope is they have Bravo there now and he's taking feedback, even then they may shut him down for being new or "inexperienced".

Wait. You can't share game types at all?

werwequvt.gif

I need sources, names, locations, phone numbers, etc

ON THE FUCKING HOP
The playlists are the best they've ever been in a Halo game, I don't even see how that's debatable. There's things missing, but overall, you never have to put up with anything you don't want to in 4, which is great.
Agreed.

Gotta play King tonight before they rip away my favorite gametype though. :/
Extractions should be up tomorrow in matchmaking right? I enjoyed it quite a bit in customs so wonder if it will be as fun in actual matchmaking.

Extraction will be in matchmaking, but only paywalled in a DLC playlist.

Most expensive game in MS history plus entire studio created just for one franchise says that's not an excuse. Frankie saying they can patch something like campaign theatre in (huge undertaking for a patch) gives me hope for an expansion of multi theatre. But hey, lets just focus on getting the announcer to work first shall we?

1. Halo should have had a formula nailed down. Halo 2-3 had it. Halo 3 introduced equipment. Some was annoying and bad (regen) and there was also the issue of not knows who had what until it was deployed, but they kept the even starting principle intact. Reach then kinda fucked it up. If it was up to me I would have made AA's pickups and when you die with one, you drop it like a weapon or unused equipement. They all would have a certain "battery life" to them.

I mean shit, even going from Reach to 4 it felt like change for the sake of change because they wanted to separate themselves from Bungie. UI, weapon drops, all strange decisions.

2. They basically did have 2 developers working on it, lol. Certain Affinity made a good chunk of the game.

You have to put up with the terrible design decisions inside the gametypes, that's bad enough.
I'd rather suffer through a game of Oddball while waiting for CTF like in Halo 3 instead of playing Infinity CTF over and over again.
Speaking of oddball, that may very well be the single gametype that got better instead of worse in Halo 4. Although the griefing potential introduced with ball throwing is endless.

I'm not defending the decisions, but I wonder how much pressure 343 had to introduce more popular elements of other shooters. I feel like Bungie had a bit more clout and independence with it's decisions than 343.

Are there any major arena shooters left in the console space? In the PC space you still have Quake Live and UT99/2k4 which are pretty timeless.

I wish I could enjoy Halo 4 as much as Ram obviously is.

I have played a decent amount of it... but I get really frustrated when playing a team of camo/pv/jetpack. Throw in random GO and incineration cannons/binary rifles and I will just turn it off.

On Nov 7th there were 410,534 players at peak time, four days later it fell sharply, six days later it fell sharply to 205,704 dropping by half. It has not recovered from there. Today the peak sits currently at 111,741.

Why does 343 continue to cater to the people that played the first five days, when you have no control over them?

1. Peak population trends do NOT = unique players per day or number of games played per day. Once gain you are looking at this trend incorrectly.

2. Halo 4 is still #2 on the XBL charts from Major Nelson, we await the latest DEC statistics to confirm the same.

3. XMAS numbers, wait until after XMAS for some population numbers to steady.

4. 80/20 rule does not apply here, most players have purchased the game and paid the same amounts, irrespective of playing only campaign or 1 multiplayer game or 100's of multiplayer games.

JIP into a BTB IS game where the score is 150 to 20 on Ragnarok, red team is all set up with vehicles, positions and weapons and there's only four of us on blue and the game spawns me below the middle hill in the water.
