I'm sure nothing is posted to the Waypoint blog blindly. I imagine bs angel listens to each episode first, which explains the (understandable) lag in when we release them and when they're posted.

I think it's pretty cool to see the podcast on there despite our occasionally harsh language.

Maybe its a 343i olive branch so Halogaf stops killing the game.

This.

Big fans of the series will still get the LE. Halo 3 LE gave you a bunch of awesome stuff without making anything in-game exclusive.

Reach gave you an armor effect. It's shaky ground but not that big a deal.

]LE users getting access to specializations early is like buying an advantage to the game. Glad they gave those out anyway.

I totally agree - but why is it fair that Americans get that advantage but euro players dont? For the record I think everyone should get all that stuff.

Back to your first point... The LE was marketed in the UK as the only way to get the specialisations - this turned out to be a lie as pre-ordering from certain retailers also got codes - this information was not unveiled until post launch. The false marketing was a big part of why I got the LE.

I am actually wondering if that's valid grounds for an official complaint.

Where would I one of these?

Be American and play the game before the 20th Nov - it will be emailed to you email account. If you didn't play before the 20th nov I reckon you would have to ask someone for one - and it's speculation rather than proven that the code emailed to people is what is allowing them to get the map pack

I hope us LE people get something out of this at some point. I really don't want this to be my last limited/collector's edition Halo purchase ever.

I just hope the various placating phrases like "thanks for trusting us with your baby" and shit stop being used in their PR anytime now. Didn't sound quite genuine all of last year but it definitely doesn't now. There are obviously people there that love the franchise but 343 overall is pretty faceless.

Forge is done by Certain Affinity, the Crimson DLC was done by Digital Extremes, and apparently the Spartan Ops CGI is outsourced too

Didn't you read the credits?

War Games was coded by Sledgehammer Games.
Progression system was created by Zynga.
Spartan Ops dialogue was written by Epic Games.
Cortana was modeled by Tecmo.
Firefight was made by Midway.

Come on son. At least pick a company that is on life support and not dead for the last one. THQ would have fit perfectly. lol

Freemium dlc: Free DLC that you may have already paid for.

Rofl - that's pretty clever. But it hurts... the wound is still fresh.

Edit: Speaking of LE woes - I was thinking over exactly what the LE includes and remembered the extended-ish Forward Unto Dawn. But when I watched it, couldn't find anything new. Exactly what is extended about it? The outtakes?

So I made the mistake of reading game informer today. So does microsoft just have GI in their pocket? Because the SLRPing is insane.

I had teammate killing me when I was about to score the flag. I was about to kill the flag carrier when I automatically picked up their flag. Full team respawn right behind me. About to kill someone when he popped HLS and his teammate killed me.Lag Lag Lag.

Definitive halo.

To be fair to Epic, Gears 3 had better dialog than the in-game drek of Spartan Ops (John DiMaggio makes anything palatable). Kind of sad that the CGI scenes are the best part of the mode so far. Fingers crossed that the rest of the season contains lessons learned, but I'm not holding my breath. Too little time to change so many things, I fear.

If Firefight by Midway means we get an online multiplayer San Francisco Rush 2049 mode instead of Spartan Ops in the next Halo, SIGN ME THE FUCK UP.

This is the shit I am sick of seeing. I feel like people just say this shit to look cool and try to fit in. That had little to do with the game being Halo 4, but nice try. Welcome to ignore.

The lesson to be learned from this is that map pack codes and in-game upgrades of this stature shouldn't be used to entice people to buy limited editions. Want to give Ezio a special gun in single-player for LE owners? Cool. Want Shepard to get an exclusive armor in single-player? Cool. Map packs and perks? Eh...

Focus on figurines (not the ugly Legendary edition things) or really nice art prints or something that feels more tangible for the money the consumer spends. You avoid this issue and make everyone happier in the long run I think.
Counterpoint: $$$.

DEFINITIVE HALO BY THE PEOPLE WHO OUTSOURCED HALO

but seriously a making of Halo 4 post mortem would be very interesting

Oh, I'm not saying they're going to do that, I'm saying what would be the better option from the consumer's standpoint. You've got people here defending sloppy anti-consumer behavior by one of the world's largest corporations by saying "life isn't fair, we all die in the end so stop complaining". If I were Microsoft I'd milk the fuck out of this fanbase too. They're easy.

Salt and butthurt. Do you work for 343? Please deliver the message.

I keep running into these headless spartan pieces of shit. What the fucking fuck. Not playing this shit until 343i can get this bullshit straightened out.

I'm surprised so much of the old guard has put up with this shit. I pop in here occasionally to check up on HaloGAF, but every time I do I'm reminded of 343's absolutely abysmal community relations. They're silent on everything and give no indication as to what's happening inside their studio. Why don't you guys move on to something else? 343's Halo is moving in a different direction that what nearly any vet wants while there are other developers out there providing fantastic experiences spawned directly from their communities and not some contrived internal vision.

It really would. When I was younger I thought all that behind the scenes stuff was boring, but now the issues surrounding the development would be as interesting as the final product itself.

What are some other comparable arena shooters? That's all I want out of Halo. :-(

Thank you. The map pack is downloading right now.

I really hope a developer comes along and just basically steals the classic halo gameplay - there is a lot of money to be made by a company who makes a really good classic halo clone.

some of us have, I've played like 100-200 hours of Halo 3 and Reach and haven't played 4; there are way better FPSes out there from the last two decades

It's not a matter of the devs, its the game too. Halo was a bastion of hope in a sea of CoD design philosophy for a while, but it moved away from that in Halo 4 to join the masses while still parading its shields and sci fi as being Halo enough.

Yeah, its core gameplay still plays like Halo.

But Halo 1-3 and even Reach slightly (though the signs were there) played like Halo in Halo's house. Halo 4 is plays like Halo in CoD's house.

I think 343's communication is fine, its just that they don't give us what we want to hear. As cool as it would be, I'm not going to hold them to making a post mortem making of Halo 4 video.

But I would like them to explain why things like obvious custom options were removed, why gametypes were removed and neutered. Why the red x's and clear friendly indicators were axed. Why global ordnance is better than a better communicated static ordnance system. Why the UI changes?

Bungie was good on addressing a lot of the changes they made to each Halo game. And maybe we were spoiled by them. I also recognize 343 is a brand new studio that shipped its first real game.

idk, but I agree it feels like 343 needs to address some issues. Hell, we still have no ETA on things like file sharing....

SERIOUSLY.

Does anyone still play Murder Miners?
I keep on meaning to give it a shot again. I didn't like it much back when HaloGAF first got into it, but I've heard there's been a lot of improvements.

Why bother making another Halo when we still have Halo 1 and Halo 2 on PC? Those are the real halo experiences, any other dev taking up the task would just be different, just like what we're seeing with 343. There's no reason to stagnate on iterating that when you can innovate in an entirely different direction.

The poster child of absolutely fantastic dev/community relations at the moment are the guys behind Natural Selection 2. The original game was a mod many years ago and has now been made into an extremely successful retail game, and the best part: most of the content in the game is made by the community that plays it, and it's open source

Then there's SOE, making what must be the only AAA game that isn't sequel bait, Planetside 2, and it's designed as a LTE game to run and evolve into wholly new experiences over many, many years. Most of the core gameplay was playtested and redesigned several times over the course of a several month long beta, and the game is no where close to being done now that it's been "released." It's everything I've ever wanted in a game (basically all the cool shit that happens around you in the Halo universe, but actually player directed and controlled), and it's completely player controlled. SOE is just continually pushing out content to expand what is possible for players to do. And it's F2P.

The devs for these games are constantly online in forums, reddit, twitter, and livestreaming the game regularly. Communicating with the people who play the game and engaging in real discussions.

AssCreed3 is $33 today as part of Amazon's deal of the day. I heard you get to go to orgy parties with Ben Franklin in Philly. Holla atcha boy.

Ubisoft really shot themselves in the foot. Ben Franklin's orgy parties were always in France.

I've been reading a lot more lately. Finally taking Plywood's old tag to heart. Halo 4 has not been a good experience for me outside of the first 10 days or so. 343's decision making so far has not given me much hope.

Kinda bums me out to see it set down as coldly as this, but yeah. Halo 4 is a really cool game, whatever, but it doesn't do the things I looked for from Halo. I'm not sure anything does.
