Just out of curiosity - on the general topic, how is a video contest for your game bad marketing?

ON topic: I still can't believe how Valve obviously doesn't check quality of their games. I know of games who tried to get on steam which didn't even get an answer back and are much MUCH better quality and were in much better state then War Z.

There must be some personal contact/friend stuff going on..

You would think that Neogaf is the board with civilized discussion, where You cant find flood of youtube/reddit like stupid posts, but its not true.
First, i remember, was rage about PoE and on me for defending the game, now people loves it, later it was all hate about lack of kickstarter funding for Star Citizen and dozens posts calling it shady or misled campaign - now everybody loves them and they've set new funding record, next it was and it still is whole debate about TOR F2P rule-set, which is basically ok, not great but completely ok, but of course all topics with it are flooded with hate. Same goes for Origin and hundreds other stuff here.

Now we have WarZ, where instead of pointing out laughable current dev comments [seriously not a beta anymore?] or Valve's admissions process, we get flooded with graphics discussion and false information about respawn times. Yes, it false, because You can respawn instantly if You want.

So GAF, focus on important things, instead of spamming threads with info we know for months.

As far as i'm aware you can only respawn instantly if you make a new character or buy instant respawn with real money. Or have i got that wrong?

Yes, You can delete Your character and make new one, You dont have to wait for timer. You wait for timer only if You want to have exp/stats saved and it wont be available in Hardcore mode anyway.

It is simple fact that they quadrupled the respawn AND added a pay-to-respawn item at the same time. That pretty much speaks for itself.

Even in a F2P title that would be a dick move. In a game people are paying up front for it is craaaaaaazy.

If you can't recognize this entire saga as a shady cash-grab bordering on outright fraud you need new glasses.

It is a zombie game easily mistaken for the wildly popular DayZ and it is on the front page of Steam as the #1 Top Seller.

It would take something like a zombie apocalypse to prevent Titov from profiting now.

Best post I've read all month. Lock this thread down, boys! This entire thread is about respawn times. Yes, it's false because you can respawn a new character instantly if you want, and will have you delete the other character who has the 4 hour wait t-wait a minute... what's this? What's happening in this thread?! You lied to me!

This needs a new thread/thread title because VALVE let it happen, especially the crap on their forums. It's not just the War Z devs that are at fault and people should know about Valve's complicit behaviour. A lot of people will read a thread with Steam or Valve in the title that wouldn't bother with just a War Z thread.

If steam customers don't know about it, they cannot pressure valve into changing things.

Sorry for not talking about the stuff you want. Won't criticise the devs any longer for trying to scam every potential customer.

Tell me how can I respawn instantly without paying and I'll cut them some slack. And it's funny how you're completely ignoring the last 5 pages of this thread full of posts discussing the devs' comments, lies on the Steam store page and censorship on the Steam community forums. Beautiful tunnel vision you have there.

Valve definitely have some of the blame here

There are valid complaints and beefy proof about WarZ's being a SCAM. Do you know how a scam works? It preys on misinformation. Do you know what people are doing here? Trying to keep people informed about said scam. So yes, reposting info is valid, because not everyone is well informed or is following this thread like you are. And your cherrypicking what you're answering about and using that to justify everything else is not helping at all.

Good.

They had to do something. Neogaf is one of the most pro-Steam forums on the internet. The amount of Valve backlash this game has caused, just two days before the winter sale, is astounding.

It is probably too late to pull the entire game from the store but if the forums run free, there will at least be more hope for people to be warned before buying it. Hopefully metacritic and game websites also start pushing out reviews to get the word out.

They are not investigating the game, or it's advertising method. Just the forums. In fact, I guarantee you that the game will never be removed from the store.

There is no real reason to investigate the actual game. While the devs (especially Sergey and Kewk) are unprofessional, the game itself is fine. They've missed some time tables when it has come to releasing bigger features but that happens with plenty of games. Developers shouldn't put out time tables for features when they aren't ready for any game but they do it to appease the community. Other than that the game is a fun substitute for Day Z.

@RionaaM You can use up to 5 characters at once. If one of them dies you can just switch to another one. If all of them are still waiting on their timers then you can just delete a character, create a new one, and start playing again instantly.

The devs really are playing dirty here. As a member of the steam forums pointed out if your search "dayz" in the store search you get only War Z to show up. No Arma 2. Typing in "warz" gets nothing.

This is despicable. Valve definitely deserves some of the blame here and this game is a train wreck. If it isn't pulled off of steam and refunded I am going to lose some serious respect for Valve.
Edit: Just thought I'd say I didn't actually buy the game but I feel for those who did.

False advertising is not something that should take lightly.

And how many games were sold on steam that were on alpha? The game is clearly not in state of release with full of bugs and graphical options that dosn't work.

The game might be fun and functional, other question is if it deserves to be on the storefront seeing the actual state of the game and the false advertising.

We all know this from watching the totalbiscuit video (though at that time it was a 1 hour timer).

The problem is that there is no attachment to the character.

1. I can spend time and give them a customized face and body. I can carefully come up with an awesome name. Do I start naming them XXXCloudXXX17, XXXCloudXXX18, BIG_RIG_BOB12?

2. Why would I want to revive a character if he loses all of his gear and experience doesn't mean anything.

These two extremes are the limbo this game is stuck in:

Either make it MMO, where gear, levels, name, repuatation, etc are all preserved on death.

Or make it survival. Once you die, create a new character instantly (DayZ).
