Man, I missed all of that. Heard almost no interesting combat/scenic dialogue in my 3 playthroughs.

IWHBYD skull, yo. Never play Campaign without it!

a) I think the weirder, funnier stuff should be IWHBYD ("He was my lover!!"), not the interesting, world building fiction stuff
b) I had it on for my second playthrough

Fair enough. I haven't played enough of the campaign to listen in (waiting on that theatre), so I'm not sure if IWHBYD is even necessary, just a guess.

more like petition to get h2v on steam so that it gets a nice boost in population

First you have to get Microsoft to even acknowledge it's existence. It's not impossible, though, Fable 3 is on Steam.

Also, did anything ever happen this year for "343 day"? I remember something happening last year I think.

Tis an odd one.
Make a bit W7/W8 friendly, rename it Halo 2 PC, put it up?

Is it a case of wanting to keep the Halo brand on the console to encourage sales of that platform?

If anything, putting the Halo 2 PC version on steam can only benefit the franchise in the long run. You get more people playing a Halo game. But then again, if theres game breaking bugs found...wholl fix them? Thats more of an issue i think since im thinking that it isnt on 343s radar or schedule right now.

From what I remember the glitch was only in certain versions of the original game. I've never had it happen in Halo 1 but it happens occasionally in CEA.

I think that's because the issue was with the PC/Mac releases, and that's what CEA is built on (hence why very minor things are different than the NTSC or PAL versions.)

Could be. They're also trying to push their own store now, too, in Windows 8. Games for Windows Live has also been sort of "reimagined" as Xbox on Windows.

It still baffles me that Microsoft haven't capitalized on Halo in some way on the PC lately - aside from a straight port, considering that doesn't really work, apparently (there still is no Waypoint app for Windows 8, for example, only Smartglass, but that may be intentional, and this doesn't count).

Oh I have no illusions that it isn't a cost thing, it's gotta be. Is there REALLY a semi-lucrative market for a 8+ year-old FPS designed for consoles on PC? Maybe, but is it worth the cost, effort, and support? Perhaps that's the plan for Nov 9, 2014. Who knows?

Why did they shut down the OG servers? I thought the trade off would be bigger friendlist and more functional options with profiles/clans etc. I'm guessing it's for the Kinect at this point.

Exactly what i think too.

Its the same kinda debate about the classic Halo playlists. The "bitching" for it in the forums is a lot louder than there is actual user support for it. Everytime i see the classic Halo playlists, whether its in 4 with pro or in Reach, there's always a super small user base. But from how loud they are in the forums, youd think it would be the number 1 playlist.

We already know that Microsoft tried to do the PC and console thing with Shadowrun. Didn't work all that well as far as I can remember. I think that if Microsoft were to suck it up and push Xbox on Windows with an Xbox controller, then a lot of the problems may go away. But even then, PC gamers are a fickle bunch. It could absolutely bomb for a second time, and that's a pretty shitty scenario for them. It's likely not really a question of "fuck it, let's do it" anyway.

People here (and for Anniversary) were certain that an XBLA version of the multiplayer wouldn't be a graveyard six months to a year after the game came out, and that's simply not supported by any evidence we've seen from other games. (Of course Anniversary's debut was handled less than elegantly so it ended up splitting the playerbase anyhow, but that's another story.)

I think the idea of mappacks and redesigned campaign seems like the best way to go. I think if you scaled them a lot of Halo 2's maps would be great in Halo 4.

There was a modded "classic" gametype floating around a while back. I never got the chance to play around with it, but I imagine some of the better Forged remake maps combined with that would be a pretty fun combo. I've seen a few absolutely excellent remakes like Lockout, Construct, Foundation (which someone here is working on, beautifully), etc. In my opinion, Haven is the only real "classic" arena-style map in the game. An argument could be made for Adrift, I suppose, too. Haven is great, though. Whatever team made that one should be in charge for the February map pack, which will hopefully add a couple more to the game. Yes, 343 can do BTB/6v6. They pretty much nailed that in my opinion, save for a few global bugs/tweaks that a lot of people harp on, and the lack of an 8v8 Objective mode. But can they also nail arena-type stuff? They're working on it, so we'll see in the New Year.

Ya but thats the problem, they treated it as Xbox on windows. Thats not what PC gamers want. PC gamers want a superior version of Halo 4 with killer graphics, added control functionality (like lets say peaking around corners) a real map editor, etc. If they treat Halo4 pc like a pc game, there will be support and not to mention longevity. If they treat it like a console port, it will fail every time guaranteed.

dumb question

would it be stupid to super glue my optical cable into my astro mixamp?

the door that keeps it in there broke off and right now it's just a mess of duct tape keeping it on there.

because they didn't want to pay for it even though we pay $50 a year to play online games.

They more or less did the bolded already with Halo 2 Vista. As for added control functionality, that's an entirely separate thing. I question whether or not changing the game that much between the two platforms even makes sense while still calling it Halo 4 (I know what you're thinking, people, don't :p ). I suppose I'm just not convinced that the market is convinced that Halo makes sense on PC, period. It really is a console-first game, in my opinion. But then again, I'm not against having them treat Xbox on Windows as essentially a "wrapper" for Xbox games.

I wouldn't. If the glue at any point interferes with the beam of light, you're pooched. Unless you then want to pour acetone into the port afterwards...

PC and Xbox play together didnt fail. Shadowrun failed. Support was pulled by the closing of FASA almost what was it like a month or a couple months after release? That means any TU's and DLC went out the window. Why would anyone continue to play something like that?

The game actually played well, wasn't too glitchy, and simply worked PC and Xbox gamers together with little hiccups. Dont see why more games dont try do that.

You clearly know a lot more about that I do, to be honest. If so to the bolded, then why are there only a handful games that do this, despite there being an abundance of multiplatform titles? PS3 included. Serious question.

Microsoft are unwilling to commit their entire portfolio of IP's (Halo and Forza) to the PC, as a result we're not really seeing anything but half assed support. Their philosophies are way too strict as well, I'd like to think they'll be less restrictive next generation but as they're quite a stupid company, I'm not holding out much hope.

That added functionally would do exactly what Halo2 PC didn't: show PC gamers that this isn't just a simple port. Something build for them specifically. Plus, all Halo2 did on pc was allow for a higher resolution. The visuals didn't look all that much better. Im talking about talking advantage for DX11 and pushing the games visuals even more. Its already impressive on xbox, i can just imagine it on PC if done right.

Kinda like what they do with crysis. On pc, the better the rig the more details you get in that game, like with physx for example. Halo pc doesnt do that.

Good point. I suppose I was more questioning whether PC vs Xbox could work rather than a Halo game made strictly for PC. But I also question that game's potential success. Maybe it would succeed, I don't know... I'd certainly love to see it, eventually, though.

You forgot Fable and Gears, both of which have had a title release on PC, as well as Halo. None of them successful, as far as I know. Execution was pretty poor, though, for the most part, save for perhaps Fable 3.

Na, id just drop the pc vs xbox and just make a great pc game, done right. No direct ports.

Halo has always been a decent fit for PC. For all the shit people give it for making console FPS into what they are, it has more in common with DOOM and Quake than the majority of shooters still coming out on console or PC.

Did anyone ever talk about why no more Halo games on PC?

A bunch of these it was like...way too late. They dont release them until everybodys done playing the game...infuriating! Its like in 3 years they'll port Halo 3 to PC and wonder why it failed.
