League of Legends has everything. By far the most complete multiplayer experience available on the planet.
Yup. The best are 60 fps, spectator mode, ranks, penalty system, player feedback system, support survey and all-around Riot's dedication to the fanbase.

Yeah I love PD and all but it's not really balanced for online play in the slightest. Add in instant reloading that only olbies are aware of and you have bad times.

Halo needs to at least get bots at some point. It's awesome that certain playlists in CoD have bots to fill out teams with now. They could at least have them in Slayer.

have i mentioned how much panic attacks suck

And not only does Riot respond to feedback on the forums, they also respond to salty feedback. Amazing, isn't it?

Riot also runs their own live tournaments. Imagine if Bungie ran all the past Halo MLG tournaments. Riot's support for eSports is simply unrivaled.

Not really, most games are no where near as good as you remember them, people basically chasing a memory of a time in their life when everything felt perfect in videogame land.
Then people should say why they think it's bad, outdated or has aged poorly instead of throwing out some dismissive nonsense like "rose tinted glasses."

Halo 2 is great but I remember people doing their fair share of bitching relating to it. Rose tinted glasses is something you can observe across virtually the whole of the gaming community.

"Game X was the shit, Game Y suck's" is found everywhere and a lot of it is influenced by the time the person played it being a "easier" time in their life and the fond memories of everything being more vivid. Its not true for everyone but to act like H2 was perfect is wrong.

BXR, BXB, Combo, Super Jumping, SMG Starts, Sweep Sniping and Horrible Netcode (at times) to name a few things wrong.

I'm not saying other games did much better H3 has problems and Reach and Halo 4 certainly do but to bitch about them and act as if H2 was superior is wrong.

H2:A is going to be a redone campaign and maps for Halo 4 at best and Spartan Ops Holodeck missions at worst. Pretending its going to have MP is setting yourself up to be disappointed.

Someone make a note of this post. Ill do something stupid decided by GAF (along the lines of the cinnamon challenge) if Halo 2: A has Halo 2 Multiplayer.

Yea Halo 2 is great. If it was updated to the times with updated graphics and netcode. Fuck me.
nah, there's still stuff like the sword, melee and the plasma pistol that should be fixed. With the improved netcode they could also do reduce the lunge, auto-aim and all that jazz. Halo 2 is still has the best online multiplayer, though. Playing it for the past week has been pretty amazing.

H2 just needs to be bumped up to HD. Add some AA. Improve framerate. That's it. Don't start adding new skyboxes and shit. Bloom all over the place and new art to replace to the old stuff. Leave it alone.

Halo 2 PC ran it any resolution you wanted, with AA, and was 60fps. It proceeded to the light the charts on fire like a match in a swimming pool.

Help gaf. Want to buy this:

It is worth it?

Or should I buy "Awakening: The art of Halo 4"?

I want to know this too.

The Promotheans just came off as shiny Halo 2 Brutes. It also didn't help that the Elites were dumber. I'd really like to know WTF happened to the Elite AI. Seriously, play a mission with a bunch of Elites in 4, then go play Firefight/Campaign in Reach against Elites. Night and day.

The art of building worlds is a much better comprehensive look at the art behind halo.

Halo 4 Artbook is ... limited in content but it has some nice discussions about the theory behind the art design.

Knowing what I do now id buy the art of building worlds over the Halo 4 book.

Both good to own I picked up the big CE's of both and I'v been impressed.

I know, right!?! Half the time they were standing still. And I exclusively played on Legendary. So disappointing...

My theory is that they made the AI so complex that the AI is fighting itself on which action to commit to. In the end it's so confused that it ends up standing still.

Code:
public class Elite_AI(){

     public boolean standStill(){
          return True;
     }

}

Hopefully next-gen we can have AI that can learn to express itself in other ways when having conflicting emotions.

I have every Halo book. The only I cannot recommend is the Halo Encyclopedia because it's filled with inaccuracies (even the later printings) and they use godawful renders from the Halo 2 and Halo 3 engines. If you DO get it, make sure you get the later printings since supposedly it adds some stuff to bring it up to date with the retcons of Reach and fixes some egregious problems.

According to everyone except Ramirez!

Halo 2 is a great game, but it was filled with just as many problems as any of the other games. Halo 2 was filled with bugs & glitches that people could exploit to make matchmaking a miserable environment, I'll take gameplay issues that can be patched over stuff like that.

Then people should say why they think it's bad, outdated or has aged poorly instead of throwing out some dismissive nonsense like "rose tinted glasses."

Well, he was talking about Goldeneye, people only need to go replay it to see how time has completely passed it by. I purchased the XBLA PD and was baffled at how poorly the game had aged. The same game I had spent countless hours in in middle school, playing 4 player split screen on a 20 inch TV, and I couldn't even force myself to play it for an hour. Games are so much more about the memories they create, and where you were at during that point in your life, at least for me.

He must get responses because he's a game developer and we're but mere plebeians.

Or maybe they're friends?

how people remember a game is exactly how good that video game is to that person. if you compare older things to more modern iterations, nearly everything is "worse". but given that we don't live in a world where there's an objective overseer who determines the exact empirical quality of everything in the whole world, rose tinted glasses is a moronic argument

So you're telling me you've never went back and played a game that in your mind was the best thing ever, but when you replayed it, it was clearly not?

That's why I tend to shy away from replaying old games that I consider the pinnacle in my mind.

This game, man. This fucking game.
Got a solid session in last night and once again wonder if I'm playing the same game that most here say they are.

20 matches, mostly Big Team Slayer but with some Infinity Slayer too. Out of those 20 matches I got one, only one, host migration. Two matches had noticeable lag (feels like you go down from only two DMR shots, simultaneous deaths, etc.). One match with a troll teammate, one match with JIP on the losing side (Exile, other team had tank/banshee/gauss/two snipers), and another match that started 4 vs 2, but filled in with players within the first 10 seconds.

For an online console game, that's pretty close to perfection. 99.9% of the time I spent in Halo last night was nothing but pure fun, action, emergent craziness, and laughs with friends.

Two bits that stuck out:

* In the match with the worst lag I encountered the Bungie Aerospace bug, and my ghost randomly warped into Ragnarok's turret-side wall at about Warp 9. My body flew the opposite direction and ragdolled on top of the cliffs overlooking pelican. That was something.

* JIP doesnt seem to work on DLC maps, at least not in non-crimson playlists. You lose some players and you're on your own. I hope 343 has this one in the to-be-fixed pile.

It's like you really can't play something unless it's reflex based.

It's not just about reflex based. Episode 1 was a fetch quest with some of the most wonky unrefined controls I can remember this gen. Yes admittedly the story was great, but I'll be completely honest.. I could give 2 shits about story in videogames. Every once in a while one will be amazing and I can appreciate it, but its never the reason I'd play a game.

The only time a Brute has looked good was in that concept art that came out around or after Halo 2, no in game Brute has ever came close to looking as badass.

It just looks like a pissed off Wookie here, but better than any other art they've pushed out for them.

TWD's story is the only reason to play the game, just not for you Dirtbag.

That concept is worrying. Since when are brutes soooo god damn big? I mean, they've always been large, just not Hunter big.

I'd be willing to ditch Hunters altogether in favor of Brutes. At least Brutes have the potential to be fun to fight, instead of just annoying...

I thought the Halo 3 designs with the various armor looked cool. Not as cool as Elites, granted, but...

Same reasoning for why Grunts (and Jackals to some extent) look almost nothing like the previous games - artistic differentiation. 343i is desperate to make their own mark on the franchise despite being formed to just churn out Halo games forever and ever.

The Brute RMX reminds me a LOT of a Skorne Titan, which is good :)
