Cuteness overload. I keep wanting to say something to encourage him. :lol

I don't think I've ever seen such a young dog (three weeks) in real life. He looks so different from adult bulldogs.

I remember when mine was that little and made cute noises like that. Now he snores loud enough to wake the neighbors and his farts are rank enough to evacuate a small city.

A bulldog named Tebow?

Clicking on these videos is always a bad idea. Then I have to click on a related video, then another, then another, then another. Then it's 5 hours later and I have nothing to show for it.

I wish the regency style old English Bulldog still existed. It was a much more gamely dog. It was originally used for bull-baiting (hence the name bulldog) but after such blood sports were made illegal in the UK it gradually became extinct. There was no further use for it you see.

Out of interest, this is the dog that the progenitors of the pit bull terrier, Staffordshire bull terrier, English bull terrier, etc, were crossed with.

That and of course the terrier. Which brings me on to another extinct dog - the English white terrier.

You can really see the similarities between this and the pit bull terrier.

There are American Bulldogs, they were also used for bull baiting I think. I have one, they're awesome

Yeah. They're closer in appearance to the original bulldog than the modern English bulldog is. Not exactly the same though. American breeders certainly have kept the gameness of those dogs. There is an American breed known as the 'Olde English Bulldogge' which is an attempt to replicate it. Still never going to be exactly the same though.

I'd love to get a bulldog but I always hear that the wrinkles in their face can cause a lot of problems. No idea how much truth there is to that.

and we mostly caused it by being sickfucks who wants our dogs as perfect looking as possible and started breeding after getting as flat faces as possible, now we are stuck with a hell lot of health problems with them. But of course that's a small price to pay to have them at kennel dog shows. Fuck them and their purebred crap.

The funny thing is, it is the complete opposite to what they wanted in a bulldog back in the days of bull-baiting. The dog on the left in that picture I posted was seen as the perfect specimen. They were originally game dogs, they wanted them as lean and agile as possible. "Deficient in wrinkles about the head and neck, and in substance of bone in the limbs".

The wrinkles don't cause much of a problem other than needing constant cleaning. The dirt and sweat that gathers in the wrinkles can cause infections.

The real problem is their breathing issues. Because they have short noses they have difficulty breathing and can't be left outside on hot days or they will die within an hour or 2. Constant snoring and wheezing is common and it can cause them stress on their heart.

They also don't form callouses on the pads of their feet so you can't walk them on hot pavement or they will blister and burn.

Cherry eye and hip problems are also issues. Sadly their life expectancy is typically shorter than the average dog. They generally live to about 10.
