This says Bungie gave Halo to Microsoft on August second, 2011.

You're right, I don't know what's with the mixed dates everywhere in articles? Regardless though, Bungie didn't properly support Reach when they said they will pre-lauch, because that's exactly what fans were worried about knowing it was Bungie's last Halo game. Bungie said there was nothing to worry about and that won't happen, when it was exactly that.

I'm not going to justify how Reach was supported because I never want to see it again in the series. I love how Bunige supported Halo 2 & 3, but Reach was lacking horribly and Bungie told us the opposite would happen.

Bungie didn't really support it and no amount of support could have made that game good.

The numbers speak loudly, I agree, but like I've noted you can't just say "low population in Halo 4 means everyone hates Halo 4!" Those lower numbers could be attributed to a myriad of factors that could contain everything from people disliking Halo 4 to people not wanting to play Halo anymore altogether, to people thinking Halo 4 is too much like the other games (crazy as that sounds).

What if Halo 2 (which is the gold standard here for MP) was put out today and had low numbers? Could we just assume people hate Halo 2? Maybe some, but maybe the industry has changed.

We can't really know for sure. 343 will have to do something to get the numbers back up if they can though.

Halo 2 wouldn't do great numbers today. The industry has changed, I agree. The difference is that Halo 2 was relevant for its day and had the numbers to prove it. Halo 4 isn't, it tries to appease both sides of the Halo and COD fan bases and pleases no one. It has no interesting ideas on the genre, only stale ones.

new bungie.net in beta

go go go go

Spartan Ops is by far the weakest link of Halo 4. And yet there was no mention of any changes being made or anything. This is what keeps me from coming back.
Don't expect any gameplay changes apart from locations. I think the hiatus was to finish what was started with the first part of the season, not to gain a little extra time to add/adjust mechanics to make it any different than it has been.

Except it wasn't an addition. Just like Extraction won't be an addition if it gets its own playlist. Same with Grifball...

Hell, the commendations for it have been there since launch.
I see it as an addition because (as far as I remember), there isn't a default Team Regicide gametype, just the FFA version. It may not mean much to you, but the addition of that playlist is a big reason why I continue to play matchmaking. If it gets cut, I'm not sure what I'll do. Oddball, I guess, but new smaller maps can't come fast enough. I don't like the Infinity playlists at all, Dominion is too much like Infinity to enjoy, will probably never touch Flood, but I'm warming up to the Waypoint CTF settings finally. Extraction really needs to become it's own playlist so I can figure out if the mode is worth a shit or not (the one game on Shatter was very 'meh'), but anything that keeps the extremely shitty Personal Ordnance out of the equation is worth looking into.

New B.net is is a nice, elegant design. Keeps getting better and better.

Not sure about the new forum idea....adding the tag filtering to the existing forum structure would work better.

I know, but it all seems to be one giant forum now rather than being sectioned off.....I don't like that at all.

Yeah - One giant forum and everything is sorted by hashtags like Twitter. Remains to be seen how efficient that is for finding relevant conversations (I don't use Twitter or B.net forums enough to care anyway).

Yeah, it's a bit different. You can use tags to filter and sort, just like you would a forum.

Some are already created (community, gaming, etc.). If there isn't one that fits, you can make your own.

If you love it like a waifu, or hate it with the fury of a thousand suns, leave some feedback please. Is beta.

So the BNet forums are now one forum controlled by hashtags? Huh.

EDIT:
Urk, can we merge accounts on the new Bnet? I have my old Strike08 account from 2004 and my current Deadly Cyclone account from 2008 when I linked my gamertag. I'd like them both under Deadly Cyclone. I know before this wasn't possible.

I will give it a try later tonight to see if I can adjust to it or not. A combination of sections and tags would be the best of both worlds though.

Cool. Initially, you can use the official tags, or create your own list of followed tags which sort of serve like sections, but I hear you. It's a radical departure. Tubular, even.

So is there anyway to unlink all your accounts from the B.Next profile? I screwed this up and I don't like managing two accounts.

There's probably no way you can answer this, but can we expect Destiny to have something along the lines of a file sharing system?

Or rather, will Bnet have a significant functionality in Destiny other than stats?

When I get off vacation, I'm going to write a quick scrapper to count how many times "RIP Halo" has been said in this thread. I'm curious...

Homepage needs some font swaps and scale.

Article titles and spacing lack contrast.

I like the idea of a hashtag driven forum though.

RIP Halo
Some say if you say "RIP Halo" 7 times in a row Frankie appears.
But then he makes you play Team Duals on snowbound

B.next looks fucking awesome. I'll need to take some time later to check it out in depth, but the forums seem weird, in a could-be-better-could-be-worse kind of way. But I can finally change my username, for which I am eternally grateful.

The direction the site has taken is also giving me some ideas about where Destiny may be heading, as well. Fascinating.

I don't like change. All these hip, young hashtagging nonsense has no place on forums.

Bungie pls. Where's my blue bar that says I'm better than everyone?

Yeah I mean I feel like every weekly bulletin is the same.

Very proud of the team, we did a lot with a little... no. Every business is hard as shit to build, every product is hard as shit to launch, the difference is most businesses aren't a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft. There are no cafes in most businesses. There are no lounges with plasma TVs. There are no trips to NYC to hang out with celebrities. I've never seen a group of people congratulate themselves more on doing their job than 343. I completely understand being proud of the team and what people have accomplished, but don't try to frame it as though the struggle excuses some of the faults.

There are approximately zero people reading this:

that were disappointed with Halo 4, but will now return to the game because of that statement. It means nothing to anyone but the people who already know you made mistakes.

There are approximately zero people reading this:

who then feel better about playing a Halo game with the worst frame-rate drops in the series.

Then I read this

is it the community's fault that we're missing features from Halo 3? Frankie talks about how by all objective measures Halo 4 was a success. Missing core components of your predeccessors is a pretty damn objective failure.

and I read this

What was influenced by the community? Any examples? Was FUD or TTL asking for Complex? If the community is such a direct and democratic extension of the team, which part of the community asked for the first map pack to be big brown maps? Was that ReadyUpLive or r/Halo's fault? Could you guys have democratically put up a vote with the major communities asking if recreating Seattle during crunch time was a good idea? I just find it hilarious that after a year of Trust Us, Feels Like Halo, now suddenly the community is apparently a direct extension of the team and there are just too many gosh darn voices to be heard to make people happy. To extend this makeshift olive branch while simultaneously refusing to outline the next title update is hysterical to me. To this day, we still have no idea who, why, or how 343 makes any of their matchmaking decisions. We open up the weekly bulletin every week and hope there's something interesting. That is literally the only involvement we get with matchmaking updates.

No end user gives a rat's ass about the development process of anything. You don't think about the thousands of man-hours that go into the labeling of every single product in a grocery store, you just buy it. Give us some actual hard definable timelines for when we'll be getting fileshare, when we're getting a ranking system, when we're getting video uploading. Where are these features? Everything is always one or two weeks away. We'll have more details to share in a bit! As someone who hasn't played Halo in over a month, all I took from that update is that video game development is hard and that we'll be getting minor playlist updates in 3 or 4 weeks. Well, no shit. Sometime in the future we'll get missing features added and a title update. Oh and we have more outsourced table-scrap maps to look forward to that we'll have to pay for. Halo 4 is hitting all time low daily peak populations right now, there are 200 people in the playlist of their new DLC pack, and a 4 year old download-only PC game is ahead of it in activity, but who cares, the team is working hard! Puhleaze. I'm sure Frankie will respond to this by calling me a troll and that I hate Halo and hate everything and am moving the goalposts and should leave GAF as I have been told by him before, which is fine, but it doesn't change the fact that all the 9.8's and long hours in the world can't stop this game from falling further on its face if they keep heading down this same path.
