Forum Rumor: Battlefield 4 details leak from EA China [Up: Seemingly Real]

Could be.

Now that I think of it, Game Informer now does their cover unveils on the first Tuesday of the month. So they'll have something next Tuesday that could be nextgen if its Battlefield. Or maybe Dragon Age 3, since there are the hints that they're prepping marketing materials. And then CD Projekt is likely unveiling The Witcher 3 next Tuesday as well.

Makes me wonder if some of the floodgates on nextgen projects are going to finally open up a little.

Companies have to report earnings, so they likely want to have something announced by late April-early May otherwise they have to act like morons to investors going "We have mystery products releasing this year. Um... that's all we can say!" which, well, isn't going to fly.

Some also give foresight into the next fiscal year as of the reports that are happening in the next few days, so they have to get cracking on unveils soon.

So if true... releasing so close to next-gen launch... will online be a desert at first on new consoles? Curious which system to buy for.

Does EA still do that? I recall back in early 2010 during one of their conference calls they effectively revealed Dragon Age 2 (or maybe it was a cancelled Origins expansion) as an "Unannounced Dragon Age product." Yet, I seem to recall in one of EA's more recent calls that they have stopped giving foresight into future products.

64 player maps is what excites me the most. I can't imagine how fun Back to Karkand and Armored Kill maps are on PC.

they are boring...the more open the maps the more boring the gameplay (ever since BF1942). That one armored kill map called bandar desert runs like crap especially the city area by the ocean

All I've ever wanted was a battlefield game on console that runs at 1080p60. Just make it look like bf3 ultra on PC with some good AA.

Definitely in the camp of performance over player count on consoles.

Great news for the next gen consoles if it turns out to be true, which is looking very likely. BF3 on the PC has been so much fun, 64 players is such an awesome experience. Might have to go with the next gen consoles this time, love the PC and don't feel like upgrading my video card, 60 FPS is too good to pass up.

More players were sorely needed in the console versions of BF3. Even though the maps were scaled down, they still felt pretty barren sometimes.

CoD 2 was a launch title for 360 and there was plenty of people playing on day one. I expect the same for any big shooter.

Air Superiority in BF3 on the PC sounds great. I expect it to be faster paced than Tank Superiority which was too slow and plodding for my tastes. Jets, helis, and maybe warring gunships sounds very exciting.

Sounds like BF3 with Commander system.
With Kinect support. That'll be exciting.
support body and voice control for this commander system
But yeah, it sort of sounds like a spruced up BF3 with more adapted BF2 stuff in it. China, commander, Battlerecorder.

I still think this sounds potentially terrible.
have gem store for dlc and other stuff like that
The implication that it won't be just DLC.
dundundunDUNDUNDUNDUN!

So this is pretty much BF 3.5 if you have BF3 on PC?

Not surprised they've gone the COD route of a two year dev cycle for this game.

Lasgana: easier to pickup the game, to take care of players from CoD

Feel like I'm done with this franchise at this point.

Let's not seal it up and call it a day based on a leak. Sure this paints a broad picture, but there is a lot we don't know.

Also, to address your '2 year dev' cycle...

They've been doing it since the beginning. DICE is a huge company with a lot of teams/resources. The 2 year cycle is extremely common in the industry.

If the list is true (Commander mode, Battlecorder, 64 players) I'll be pretty happy. I just hope the destruction is back to Bad Company 2 levels; it was pretty awesome to see a whole town flattened at the end of an epic match. Bonus points if they can get it anywhere near the detail of Geomod 2.0.

Oh, and please let us adjust the color filter/contrast. The overdone post-processing didn't just make BF3 ugly, when it could've easily looked great , it also actually interfered with the gameplay.

I love BF3, but I did kind of prefer Bad Company 2 over it. I never thought about it, but yeah I agree with you that destruction did feel better in BC2.

Question: Did DICE ever mention why they destruction was scaled back?

they never were...hated them ever since el alamine 1942. takes way too much travelling around, get killed and restart all over again. wake island is the perfect map for bf

well, may be it's not the game for you then. At least half of it.

But why aren't we getting Bad Company 3 or Mirror's Edge 2 first?

I thought Bad Company 2 was vastly superior to Battlefield 3, though I'm probably in the minority here.

Probably console memory requirements. The destruction was very good in the alpha.

On what are you basing that observation? If I remember correctly, the only difference between the Alpha and the and the Master version was that terrain deformation was removed and that was only from the first stage of the Metro map.

Yea, I'll stick with Killzone 4 for my launch game

Battlefield 3 shipped over 17 million copies.

So why can't they take this fan base and introduce them to their other franchises? "From the creators of Battlefield 3" could draw in that crowd, while giving DICE time to pool resources for a full-fledged content-filled mainline game.

It lead to some hilarious glitching. Falling underneath the ground to defend a MCOM was legit tactics.

Holy shit I can't wait to see the media shitstorm when the news networks find out this game has female soldiers getting shot.

The article linked doesn't have a link to any source at all, it just says that a suspected Chinese EA employee leaked info to the domestic internet. If that was the case, wouldn't there be a place he "officially" leaked it? It's like having an article saying that someone leaked something to Reddit but not having a link to the actual leak on Reddit. Maybe I'm just super skeptical after that whole "new xbox" thing the other week.

Honestly I played the beta for BC2 on that one map more than I played all of BF3. Forget the name of the map but it remains one of my favorite and would love to see it remade for BF4.

trizzy, how can you forget Arica Harbor? (PS3 beta for those wondering)

That being said, I rather not have them ruing my fond memories of that map.
BC1->BC2 maps worked, but I don't think it'll work as well for the mainlne series.

*waits patiently for BC3*

By the way, doesn't Microsoft has something like a 22 player cap restriction for online games right now?

I believe it's a networking restriction that MS set (I believe it actually has to do with an audio codec or something of that nature). The restriction is essentially set so that people with shitty internet can play online and have a decent experience.

You're most likely in the minority since BF3 sold more than BC2 and Mirrors Edge combined.

And is a better game too imo.
