Antichamber: A reason to say 'non-euclidean'

What's the trick to
moving the yellow blocks around corners under the glass?
This mechanic is so frustrating to use, agh agh agh.

I'm stuck on "Not Enough Pieces" as well. I really need help or I fear I'll not be completing the game anytime soon.

Light hint:
If the title of the level is true, what would a true boy scout do?

Medium hint:
BYOB this part is just filler text so the spoiler looks more filled out and people dont complain about the length of the hint being a spoiler in itself

Plain answer:
Take the block from Butterfly Effect with you into Not Enough Pieces and use it to get to the last room with the block already in one of the gate slots. Remove it and take it back with you, using it as a door stop in certain places, in order to get back to the block you had to leave to get through. Now take them all to the final gate again, you should be able to keep them all with you as you now have enough to use as door stops that you can grab after you are through the doors!

What's the trick to
moving the yellow blocks around corners under the glass?

The cursor always moves the last one it touches normally. If you start on a cube that is unobstructed by glass and then move to one that is, it acts as if it is a normal cube unobstructed.

Why exactly do people call this a "non-Euclidian" game? From what I can tell, it uses perspective tricks and subtle portals in really cool, inventive ways. Is there some essential mechanic involving spheres that I missed?

Yeah I noticed that too from the quick look. Was expecting non-planar geometries etc. Maybe they're using the term a bit more freely.

Alternatively, another way to think about it is to ask 'what kind of space does the game world have to be for these moves to be consistent?'

In that case the answer (for some of the moves I saw on the quick look, such as portals etc) would indeed be a kind of looped or curved space. So maybe that's why they use the term non-Euclidean.

Beat the game, took seven hours. There's still about a dozen "signs" to find.

There's a whole lot of awesome in this game. It starts beautifully, it ends beautifully, and exploring the non-Euclidean landscape is really trippy stuff. I'm amazed that even through the environment bent and warped to my movement, I knew my way around pretty easily. Hard to describe the feeling, but it's pretty amazing stuff.

The block-gun stuff is so-so. The game finds some really good uses for the blocks, but not for all the puzzles. Growing stuff with the green gun was tedious, and the sliding puzzles for the yellow gun made me want to hang myself several times. Fortunately once you got the red gun most of those puzzles become a cakewalk and you can start farting around the environment at a leisurely pace. And exploring the world is really fun in that "Metroid" sort of way.

The good far outweighs the bad. It's a very unique experience (for the most part). 8/10

On another note, this is a potential secret or required thing for the end? I am not quite sure but I'll spoiler it anyway.
I hope y'all have been finding purple cubes that move when you look at them. I've found 3 (EDIT: Actually 4 now) so far and I'm sure there are at least a few more. I remember when I asked Alex about them at PAX he vaguely hinted that they involve the end of the game somehow.

I have found two, and I have the
yellow gun
.

This game is incredibly addictive. 4 hours in, I have almost beaten it I think. I have nearly all the signs.

The way the game teaches you mechanics is difficult, but often rewarding. (Minor spoiler:
Learning how chain block destruction and block creation worked put a huge smile on my face.
) Also, although I am unsure if it's intended or not, many of the puzzles can be broken, as in you can solve them before you are supposed to be able to. So far, this hasn't broken anything in the game as far as I'm aware (
I did find the sign that implies you've learned everything before I even obtained the yellow gun, although I couldn't go much further beyond that
) , and on the contrary it actually gives a great feeling of exploration. The game doesn't direct you from one puzzle to the next Portal style, you need to figure out where you have to go yourself. The one downside to this is that it is easy to lose track of where you still have puzzles to complete, and occasionally a puzzle doesn't have a waypoint immediately next to it so it may take some reexploration on your part to find it again.

This is so far a fantastic puzzle and exploration game.

Been playing for 4 hours so far and I feel like I've still got a good chunk of the game left but I *think* I have
all the guns: Blue, Green, Yellow, Red -- I collected them in that order
. I am going around doing things that were locked out before. This game is definitely getting the metroidvania feel the more I play it.

On another note, this is a potential secret or required thing for the end? I am not quite sure but I'll spoiler it anyway.

I can't even find where the Red gun is supposed to be. And as for the purple cubes, I've found 4 or 5 now. A few of them are rather sneaky.

I can't even find where the Red gun is supposed to be.

I have found it during my first 1h30 play session, and I could not unlock it (spoiler link). Now that I could, I don't know where to go to find it.

I still have a screenshot of my situation before finding it. It is a bit dark and not really a spoiler.

I'm now in
the chamber before the yellow gun
. For some reason I have trouble
with fully understanding how the green gun works. The game doesn't really explain it well. I had many troubles with the chamber after the green one and just stumbled through it.

I'll try to figure it out myself, though.

OK, so what do you do after (around 80% of the way through the game spoilers)
breaking the arc by looking up
? I have
the yellow gun
right now. All I can do in the room that follows is
fall down into what seems like a trap with the word UP written on the ground
.

edit:
I can see the red gun through a window pane.

edit 2: OK, I've figured out what to do. Holy fuck.

My mind is full of fuck, really been looking forward to this and the goosebumps when doing the first levels, awesome.
Love this kind of games.

I've mainly been running around like a chicken in the beginning and entered a lot of rooms without even knowing it myself.
Gonna be sad when I found all rooms.

Also, I have Antichamber for $10 if anyone want to dip in early but not pay the $15 at store.

Finished it. Man, what a great puzzle game. Seriously might be my favourite first person puzzle game of all time. The progression of anguish, reward and knowledge, and the loop of not knowing shit, then the click of OH SHIT I CAN DO [revelation], to feeling like a god, to not knowing what the fuck is going on. That loop is absolutely perfected.

Spoilers relating to end game:
Does anything happen if you beat the game within the time limit? Or if you get all the little drawings? Or if anything ever happens with the purple cube that you moved around in various areas?

Finished the game in about six hours, says Steam, but I went AFK with it open at some stage so it might be closer to a five hour game. I ended with about 90% of the thingos, though still had some of the map uncovered.

Played about an hour and a half of this so far. Quite tricky, but really good at making you want to kick yourself.

And without revealing anything, I love what happens when
the counter reaches zero.

I'm a bit curious whether I have stumbled across an easter egg, or whether this is just a regular part of the game. Spoilers of a section after getting the green gun:
I found a room with developer notes on the wall, specifically about the design of the gun. It mentions fixing clipping on geometry of the gun and designing it in a way so the player doesn't take notice of it being there. I hit escape to see if it was on the map and it's not, so it will take effort to get back there. Oops! Here's a picture of one of the slides: http://www.abload.de/img/2013-02-01_000055jkrm.jpg

The steps you need to take to recreate, for the curious.

Note this spoils a separate puzzle later on.

Suck up as many of those green blocks in the Deja Vu room as you can be bothered. You'll need a few. There's an infinite respawning lot of four lined green blocks at one of the four exits of the area. Once you've got that, turn around and look for a room sectioned into long thirds - to the left is a red fizzling field. In the centre is a long hallway with a green fally gratey thing closest to you, behind some glass*. On the right is a short hallway with a big X block that you can push against. There will be a line of green blocks holding it in place.

What you need to do is create a long line of blocks, starting at the blue block, and bring it all the way to near the red fizzler. Once you reach the red fizzler, build the blocks back the other way but make sure they don't touch any of the other blocks you've placed.

An interesting mechanic you may already have picked up on is that when you shoot the middle of a line of blocks, the shortest end will slowly fizzle itself away, from the point you removed it all the way to the end of the chain.

So what you want to do is remove a block in the middle of the 'rope' of blocks you've created. This'll start the fizzle, and what you need to do is RUN LIKE SHIT through the red fizzler all the way to the other end, on top of the elevator. This'll throw you up, and you just need to go down the green gate from there.

* you can see the room you'll end up in from there

--

I'm now really close to 100%ing the little icons. Don't know if I'll get them all, though.

Can anyone explain to me the room "Connecting the Pieces". I'm having trouble understanding what to do. I do have the correct tool for it (I think).

Where do you find the name of the room? On the map? I never look at the map, so I don't know what you are talking about.

This has probably been mentioned already but this game screams Oculus Rift.

Yea, names are on the map. Some can be inferred from the associated cartoons, but... use the damn map, it's easier! :p

On that subject, I'd love to have a little mini-map or something I could bring up when in the chambers. It's very easy to forget where one room can lead. For... obvious reasons.

I'm supposedly a little more than halfway through
working on getting the yellow gun right now
. Once you start to realize that
color of blocks = color of required gun for room
it's a little easier to not feel like you're lost. And the game's internal logic does take a little while to process, but it is nicely consistent.

Spoilers I guess:
Getting to the red gun is going to drive me mad. The yellow blocks on the lock of the door always drag the wrong blocks away. I've created a couple blocks by making them spawn in the middle but I can't do that anymore as they always pull apart on the wrong sides, if any of that makes sense. I understand how to drag them under glass, but there seems to be something else I'm missing here.

So basically help me.

Ah fuck maybe I figured it out.

I dont know how to get to 6!
Ive got the yellow gun, and I know how to move stuff and kind of split it, since I had to do it for the 4 ends of the cross puzzle, but I cant do it on this really big one in 'Just a little bit shy'

edit: Skipped that part and went to 'Hmmm' instead. and now im stuck again!
in dark room that looks out at 7 and the red gun.

A hint for "Just A Little Bit Shy" (I'm trying to keep it as vague as possible to not ruin it straight up):
Try to think back on all the properties of the cubes and that should help

If you're still stuck I'll be happy to try and push you in the right direction.

edit: Skipped that part and went to 'Hmmm' instead. and now im stuck again!
in dark room that looks out at 7 and the red gun.

Again another hint to try and help:
Explore the room

I'm being intentionally vague as possible because I know the way I think through a "hint" and I try to abstract it one more level since I personally don't like having puzzles "spoiled" for me-- even if I have been stuck on one for hours.

On another note, I've beaten the game and I'm missing only one sign. The entire wall except for one little square is filled in and I feel the map is fully filled in as well (as much as I can tell).

I enjoyed the game quite a lot. I can understand where some will have issues with some of the mechanics namely,
the gun and block puzzles
. I know to an extent it did detract from the core "concept" of the game but I still enjoyed that specific mechanic enough to not be bothered. Regarding that actual mechanic:
A lot of the actual puzzles with the blocks I enjoyed quite a lot and I liked doing the pathfinding through a 3D space with the yellow gun's ability (like making mini-elevators), however I wasn't a huge fan of the "fill in laser grid maze" type of stuff. Mostly because it seemed to rely on that type of puzzle *a lot* towards the end and I sort of liked when it had a good mesh between simple gate/lock and mind-bendy stuff. The pacing, or rather the frequency at which you arrive at these puzzles, is really up to chance and how the player chooses to explore, but the game clearly gets more "dense" with these grid puzzles as it further moves along and I wish there was at least one more complex type of puzzle to break up the frequency of the block mazes-- or perhaps one further involving the "non-euclidean" aspects of the game.

Regarding a few secrets:
As far as I can tell I have found all the secret "rooms" on the map (which are most of the dead end circles on the map) and I have also found 7 purple cubes. As far as the how many I have left or the location of the final sign? I have no idea but I will keep looking.

Overall, a fantastic game and one I will enjoy perusing through for secrets and goodies.

Thanks for the hints!

I think I need a little more of a hint to figure out
'Climbing the Tower', all ive figured out so far is that if I look up I can pass over the hole that says up :p

Edit: I ended up getting somewhere up and down, but still none of this stuff is leading me to the
Red gun!

Beat it. There are still a bunch of rooms I have to complete though. I have 5 signs left to discover, and no idea how many purple cubes. Is there any indication to how many you've already found?

Trying to 100% this is going to take a while, I'd imagine... I spend so much time just trying to find the damn puzzles. And some hidden rooms are very cleverly hidden as well.

Beat the game. Enjoyed it quite a bit, but really really really disappointed in how many areas boiled down to unimaginative block puzzles. I spent way more time staring at walls coaxing cubes around than I did experiencing the level design, which sticks out as a problem in my mind. All of the damn "block the laser" puzzles really started to grate on me.

QUBE is very similar game to both Portal and Antichamber aesthetically. It's nowhere near as good as either, but it's still a pretty decent logic puzzle game involving manipulating coloured cubes in a white environment from a first person perspective.

I think Antichamber may be one of the first 'open world' / explorey first person puzzle games. Anyone care to correct me? I'm surely forgetting a whole bunch of games that must fit that description.

It might be closer to a Metroid type game. Open-ish world with powerups that allow accessing new areas and lots of backtracking (if you wish).

Went back and got all of the icons. Screenshot of them all on the wall - probably considered a spoiler. http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/903239049202028002/6E09DB3A707E69C3F51B31CEA5ED10C70EB7E806/

And here's a shortcut I found that would be useful for early game. Spoiler involves early mechanics that you might not know about, as well as hidden rooms.

Description of spoiler:
How to go from blue gun to green gun incredibly quickly.

Actual ass spoiler instructions:
Once you have the blue gun, go to the room that says WALK. I think this room is called 'leap of faith' although I don't quite remember. Walk across the gap, and turn right. You'll be looking at a short hallway that ends with an abrupt wall. Walk through the wall, and collect about 30 green blocks from the FLY?! sign.
Go back the way you came, back to the start of the WALK gap. There will be an eye icon. Look at it until it disappears. This eye takes about 20-30 seconds to disappear. Make sure you're looking at its pupil. You'll know it's working if it starts to blink.
Inside will be an icon refering to patience, and a puzzle with thee groups of two lasers intersecting, with a pair of blue blocks opposite eachother on the left and right laser.
With the green blocks you collected, stack them so that you cut through the middle of the laser. This will open the door on the other end of the room.
Go through the door, and place two blocks in the wall lasers. Keep walking. You'll see an icon that says shortcuts are valid. Heh.
Turn right and you'll be at the green gun.

I also found this amazing easter egg room. I now believe I've gone to every room in the game (sans purple). http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/903239049202136668/C68512B6356CA7C72744FE9BC721F63017F2ED3C/

There is still one thing on the map that implies there might be a hidden room, though...

Just played 12 minutes of this game and had to stop because it made me so nauseous and gave me a headache. Last game that made me feel like this was Mirror's Edge and I never got past 20 min of that game. Kinda a bummer to waste 15 bucks especially on a game I really wanted to play.

Finished this. Steam says it took me 3 hours.

Fun game.

Same time here. I think playing a lot of Minecraft helps with some of the ideas in the game.

It didn't really feel all that crazy, most of the game is just straight block puzzles or whatever, not much of the non-euclidian stuff (or maybe the paths I took didn't involve that much, there seem to be multiple paths to each key objective).

Also the yellow puzzles got really repetitive. Always the same solution...

How long does it take to beat the game 100%?

Edit: I have checked your Steam profile and the answer is 10 to 11 hours.

Yeah pretty much.

The last hour or so I've been working on a not-quite-a-speed-run, since I can now beat the game from start to finish in about fifteen minutes. I'll record it and put it up if anyone's interested.

edit - I'll do it even if nobody's interested too >_>
