Rayman Legends coming to Xbox 360/PS3, all versions releasing in September

Thanks for the replies guys. I knew about having all 3 versions to report in their fiscal quarter reports but this still doesn't make a whole lot of business sense to me. I would think having 7 months of sales on one platform with a smaller userbase would generate more than delaying it even with advertising costs.

well here are some possibilities:

1) ubisoft actually has no idea how much their own game sold or what the platform make-up is. they are willing to pay cash for message board posters to give them this information.

2) ubisoft does know, and whatever private information they have contradicts the information you have.

3) ubisoft does know, and your information is entirely correct, but they have private projections that suggest something different about the economics of rayman legends to justify this decision, whether or not it ends up being correct in the end.

4) ubisoft is deliberately sabotaging their own company in an effort to take down nintendo on behalf of all the third parties of the world who hate nintendo for example nomura is a KNOWN sony fan boy and besides third parties said they wouldn't make games for gamecube because of the low install base but then the wii won and SURPRISE SURPRISE they changed their tune and by the way did you know that all those companies wouldn't have gone bankrupt if they made wii games i hate dudebro shooters for example but call of duty black ops 2 on wii u is a good game and

This is a great post.

It sucks for Wii U owners... I still think they should've released it in March for the Wii U.

Oh well, I'm still happy it's coming for the PS3! Loved Origins :)

Was considering picking up Rayman when it was supposed to come out later this month, but they pretty much lost a sale here with this move.

What a middle finger to people with Wii U. I was thinking of getting the game with the current software drought, but I won't bother with it now.

It'd be more down to the brand name than anything else. Zelda is bigger, more popular and sells more than Rayman,

You're making the case for third parties to not bother with Nintendo. When old games getting re-made are valued more, it's the wrong console to create a third party exclusive for.

Legendary. My reaction while reading this post:

Wii U version canned, the only explanation that makes sense.

That wouldn't surprise me tbh.

Does Nintendo even know about this?
I get the feeling that Ubisoft has yet to tell Nintendo that they're delaying the Wii U version in addition to releasing it on multiple platforms.

I'm going to have to go with this one. ;-)

I knew it would be this or ZombiU that'd end up on the PS3 & Xbox360, but why the fuck is it now a September release??

Fuck this shit!

Fuck you Ubisoft, there is not a single good reason (for us) to delay the Wii U version that has been ready since last year. You're only doing that so that the 360 and PS3 versions can sell a little better. But in the process, you're losing Wii U sales. GG.

Now... I don't even know when i will play my Wii U the next time. Shit is depressing. No i'm not interested in Monster Hunter that much.

I know nobody cares, but this is -1 sale. I don't feel the excitement to support the product anymore because they're not supporting the system I want to see succeed. I also just have this bad feeling about the quality of the product with the delay and trying to milk more sales. I dunno.

I'll echo, and say I honestly have no problem with it going multi-format. Most games cost too much and don't sell well enough to stay on one platform now, I accept that. However, waiting all that way til September? What the fuck man. I'll be looknig at a new console hopefully around then, I would much prefered this out right now. May, if need be to launch all formats together. September is so bleh.

yea why would anyone think this game was going to be a Wii U exclusive in the first place? clearly early teaser images showed otherwise.

Yeah, because we have never ever seen similar kind of ad being used to advertised other 'exclusive' titles (ie. Mass Effect, Final Fantasy XIII, etc).

Ubisoft said:
As many of you know the release of Rayman Legends on Wii U has been delayed until September. It's not all bad news though as you will now be able to collect those legendary Lums on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.

We never want to delay a game and for that we're sorry. We made the tough decision to push back the release so we could offer it on multiple platforms. Stay tuned for more

So by the same logic, if WiiU sales explode with the release of Wii Sports U, Mario Kart and 3D Mario they will make a tweet 2 weeks before the watch_dogs release that the game will be delayed 7 months because they want to make a WiiU version. Totally not gonna happen.. They would only announce a port for spring 2015
all that is theoretical

I don't get the reasoning. There's absolutely no reason not to release a finished game now on Wii U.

What would this hurt?

I love appealing to authority as much as the next guy, but do you think the savings in marketing costs is going to make up for the intensely higher competition for gamers' wallets come fall? Big titles from everybody else as well as a console launch or two in that timeframe isn't doing a title like Rayman any favors.

That said, assuming the Wii U version released this month would've easily sold 200k+ is laughably optimistic at this point.

5) They made a mistake in their projections and decisions (like Sega did with its 3DS games), it is not unheard of in this industry, otherwise games would never bomb.

So in other words, #3, which you didn't read? The point of contention here isn't "Is Ubisoft correct?" it's "Is the very shallow analysis presented by the argument 'The PS360 versions sold 50k first month and then bargain basement ergo this is a bad decision' enough to undermine whatever private information Ubisoft has?"

You know that companies not always make the right decisions...

That is actually baked into my post. Companies don't always make the right decisions, but in general they don't just throw darts at dart boards. They have information that suggests a certain course of action is the correct one, and so they take it. Chances are if a naive, two-line data summary makes something seem like a bad decision, something's missing.

You know when there isn't a high profile Nintendo title releasing though? February.

This knocks down Wii-U retail Q1 releases from extremely lacking to EXTREME!ly lacking.

You're forgetting the nearly inevitable "Ambassador program" I smell in the air.

Seriously, though, you're right. What is there left--Lego City Undercover and Monster Hunter?

Heck, if they just started porting some Gamecube classics to the eShop I'd be fine, but that'll never happen.

They're probably trying to save money on marketing. Plus by the time the 360/PS3 release rolls out the Wii U version might be cheaper. I'm guessing they want to sell it at $60 across all platforms, but the timing is so bad.

Launching it now would make it "old news" by the time september comes around. Also, having a cheaper Wii U version (due to price drop) next to a 60 dollar version might hurt the sales.

Delaying the release by 7 months to go multiplatform may seem like a good idea on paper but, will anyone even care about Rayman Legends by then? The whole situation is just a train wreck

Is this thread the WiiU version of the Bayonetta 2 carnival of stupid?

Getting there.

Which is pretty funny. Nintendo fans talked about how immature people were acting over Bayonetta 2. Now though, some of those same people are currently acting the exact same way over Rayman.

I don't know what's a worse sign for the Wii U... Rayman going multiplatform or Nintendo fans going crazy over this news as if it's Mario (showing that there isn't much to be excited for on the Wii U right now).

I take it they didn't learn from the release of Origins?

This isn't something that bothers me massively as it gives me more time to complete the first one, but I think that given it must have been pretty much done in order to make a late Feb/early March release for NA/EU respectively, I don't see why a six-month exclusivity period for Wii U would have done any harm.

As it stands, I can and will probably wait for a (very swift) price drop on this game before I invest.

the bigger question here is:

what the hell just happened with ubisoft and nintendo relationship?

You could replace "Ubisoft" with "3rd parties."

As I've said all along, these relationships seem irreparably broken and I foresee Nintendo having to join up with someone next go-round.

i wouldn't act like someone was crazy or "i told you so" for thinking those games were going to be exclusive in the first place. all signs pointed to some form of exclusivity, whether it be timed or not.

I don't see this being an issue at all. If it's a good game and people don't own the Wii U (which most probably won't at that point) they'll still buy it, won't they? I mean, who says, "Well, this game was released 5 months ago on a console I don't own, so I clearly won't buy it now for the console I DO own."

PS3/360 Owners in September: Why the hell would I pay 60 dollars for a game that's now 19.99 on Wii U? One of the same reasons games are selling so awfully on Wii U.
