See, now this is understandable, since a unified account system is something that's needed. But people 'quitting' handheld gaming if Sony leave are pretty much fanboys, it's supposed to be about the games, not the hardware/Sony or Nintendo.

Its about Nintendo approach to hardware and customer service. They are the anti-apple company.

Nintendo hardware looks and feels cheap and ugly, and they do the absolute minimum to get by in terms of customer service. Some people hate that approach and it is obvious Nintendo doesn't make products for them.

I think it is fair to say kids under 12 in the west and Japanese people in general don't care that much about ugly cheap-ass hardware and antiquated customer service, and so those are Nintendo's core markets. Other people don't find that approach appealing enough to buy into the platform. You know, like people who don't like touch controls and so refuse to play iOS games.

That doesn't make them fanboys, just people who have other tastes in products and entertainment.

Actually, I am still wondering how someone who loves PSP and its line-up could be attracted by Vita, that does not have a fraction of the previous platform's offering.

It's about the full package, not just 'games'. Every single platform has plenty of good games. Can I assume you're a 'fanboy' if you don't own every console, every handheld, a gaming PC, iOS and Android smartphones and iOS and Android tablets?

You're always going to buy some systems and not others. How you arrive at the decision of which platforms to purchase is entirely up to you and is no concern of anyone else.

That´s just an excuse. We don´t know what Nintendos next 3DS revision and especially their next gen handheld and their online sevice will be. That´s why.

------------------------------------

If Sonys handhelds continue to underperform Nintendos handhelds will just get their share of support, after Monster Hunter, it wouldn´t be a big surprise to also see God Eater, Phantasy Star P etc. on Nintendos handhelds.

In your opinion. Do you have the year 1 PSP lineup available?

You're also overlooking the fact that PSP games are best played on a Vita

Straight up, I don't see how your post relates to mine.

Vita: Just remember Sony hasnt cut the price yet. I wouldn't be worried about Vita unless they cut price and it continued to do badly. I think there are many gamers who want Vita and are just waiting for the cut. Besides, nobody should buy a new platform this close to E3, land of the new hardware announcements and price cuts. 3Ds is OK now that it has had its price cut and revision.

Sigh...and what about the complete and total lack of SYSTEM SELLING SOFTWARE?

That's a fact. In the first year, PSP had already announced Crisis Core, GTA and Monster Hunter. Also: PSP was a bet, hence it did not have a very good support until some years in the market. Vita should have started better, coming from the very successful (in Japan) PSP. But no MGS, no KH, no Square games at all outside the two launch games, no MH, not many RPG, no Ace Combat, etc.

Yeah, people tend to forget 3DS exploded in Japan with the arrival of MH and Mario. The price cut SURE helped since 3DS was priced wrongly and completely out of character for a Nintendo handheld, but it's the games what make the difference. Sadly, price cuts alone didn't help GameCube back in the day.

Ah, I thought you were talking about actual, not potential. As someone that owned both from launch, I just wasn't seeing the disparity you portrayed.

Oh, come on. It effectively had a price cut in the West for the holidays, and still sold even worse than PSP did a year earlier. Even in Japan, I believe stores have already been discounting it left and right.

Last year we were waiting for Gaming Heaven #2, E3, TGS and first Christmas.

Now we are back to waiting for E3 again? The cycle continues.

Pretty sure we will hear about MH4 VITA any minute now (or at E3) since that's what many gamers are waiting to buy VITA for.

I think it will drop further. There's just -nothing- coming out, and NSMBU and Nintendo Land can only hold it afloat for so long.

this, Nintendo really fucked up the lauch windows of the console, I know I'll be buying a wii U but not rigth now

This is me as well. I know there'll be games I want, but right now I simply don't want one at all given its current library.

PSP announcements were real; they were for games that did come out. Did you see Monster Hunter, Crisis Core and GTA, Ace Combat right? Well, they were announced in the first year. And many games eventually came out (MGS, KH, etc.). Vita does not have them, it does not have anything comparable, but it should have, since it comes from the PSP, that was successful in Japan.

Well, there actually is a quite obvious relation.

That´s the problem. While people acknowledged PSPs "potential" also due to early and important announcements like Crisis Core, PSVs "no annoucements policy" actually is harmful and due to its horrible sales maybe even more.

Looking at those DQ numbers (and impact on HW sales) Sony should money-hat a DQ8 remake for the Vita.

Just gives you an idea of how in this industry, you can never be sure, it isn't over until the fat lady sings. That goes for vita as well.

you're seeing the future of wii u, old chap.

Yup, simply becuase it won't sell as much as the fuckin' DS.

It's Pokemon. Animal Crossing has been popular here, but it's not nearly what it is in Japan.
In the near future we can look forward to Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, Castlevania, Brain Training or Monster Hunter.
It shall be interesting to see how these games will sell and impact the hardware sales :)

I'm not sure if people in general sees added value in the same line as a pricedrop (i'm not couting the great Amazon.com bundle because that was available for like 1 day, and only at Amazon.com). Dropping a price with $50 could look better than adding $50 of value and keeping the old price.

Not that long ago, i think that Vinnk said that the price for used Vitas was still relatively high, making him believe that they hadnt given up on the Vita yet. I've also seen some other mentions about some Vita price promotions in some stores, but not that stores are discounting it left and right. That is just what i've picked up though, unfortunately i cant say anything about the general situation.

Reggie is, and other nintendo spokes people, they've talked about how this time WiiU can achieve more than Wii sales wise.

Reggie thinks Animal Crossing is enough to satisfy core games as the lone game in the Fall selling season. Reggie don't know jack.

P.S. Remember Sony saying PS3 would surpass PS2? :p

and they do the absolute minimum to get by in terms of customer service.

We're down to outright lies now. Great. :\

PSP and PS3 fell more than I thought they would.

Vita and Wii U fell less than I thought they would.

It was only 1k or so, the PSP is going to slowly head towards the grave this year besides for that God Eater bump it will get. The PS3 lineup also looks relatively bleak this year with Metal Gear and Musou 2 being the only relatively big releases.

We're down to outright lies now. Great. :\

Thought I was the only one that noticed that, but some people will invent stories to fit the narrative they want to tell. Ninendo and Amazon probably have the nicest customer service people I've dealt with.

DQ7's sales are impressive! My prediction of 1 million to the end of this month is going to be surpassed pretty easily.

That Sword Art Online game is coming out soon for it, that will also bump it slightly.

Wii U and Vita are doing absolutely dreadful, while the 3DS is just dominating everything.

I think it will be like this for a short while.

In the US, Nintendo couldn't even be bothered to ship Fire Emblem properly. If they're hoping for digital sales to cover their mistake, the US isn't Japan. We know the difference between proper digital distribution mechanisms and awful ones.. As for a 30 dollar Brain Age game, I wouldn't pin my hopes on that if I were Nintendo. There are far too many knockoffs that are far cheaper. Luigi might do alright. Castlevania is a big question mark given how bad it apparently was before they delayed it. I bet Nintendo have some surprises left for E3. I personally hope one is another non-traditional Zelda title, as well as some sequels to games that actually fit the portable mold (like Picross, Panel De Pon, Meteos etc).

Nintendo hardware looks and feels cheap and ugly, and they do the absolute minimum to get by in terms of customer service.

Some of Nintendo's policies are incredibly anti-consumer but their actual customer service has been pretty good. It's not CS' fault that the company's policies dictate that they can't give you your digital purchases back if you mistakenly replace a broken/lost/stolen device on your own. When they can help, they're good. I'm sure Chopper would agree.

3DS gets the most important IPs that were on DS
WiiU gets the most important IPs that were on Wii

The $250 COD/AC bundles were $200 on Black Friday, for one. Not just talking added value here.

Maybe I was inadvertently exaggerating the "discounting left and right" bit regarding Japan, but the reality is that Vita has no games available or announced that would sell particularly well on a handheld with a far larger userbase. No price cut can solve that.

Anyway, the JP Nintendo Direct tomorrow is confirmed to be 3DS-only. That tiny scrap of benefit of the doubt regarding Wii U third-party support remains a bit longer.
