Destructoid: PS4 controller prototype & devkit photo, [Up: New Photo/Info In OP]

Looks ugly. Where are the start and select buttons?

I was wondering about that too and I think they're the buttons in the centre slightly to the right of the D-Pad and slightly to the left of the "X,[],O,Triangle" buttons. Here:

I'm more interested on whether that's a button on the front surface of the controller bellow the PS Button though. Perhaps it's the rumoured share button?
Just saw the mention of it above and the possibility that it's a headphone jack. That would be excellent.

That was from more than a year before launch, this is around 6 months out, it's likely incredibly close to the final product except for any cosmetic changes such as the finish.
more like 9-10 months. Also, there's no date to this picture. It could have easily been taken sometime last year.

This looks much closer to a 360 pad and since that is by far my favorite controller I am pretty stoked with this. It looks much more comfortable ergonomically

Yep. Something that might actually fit my hands. Improved dpad (please be the Vita's) is a huge plus. Wish they'd finally realize that the analog stick positioning is superior on the 360 controller and just copy it. From the pic though it kinda looks like it rivals Xbox's Duke controller in size. Probably just the pic.

So hyped. If that's the final design, there will probably be some design flourishes. Touchpad could have the Vita rear touchpad design, speaker grill will probably be smaller and maybe circular, etc. If I see a refined version of what we are seeing now, I'll be VERY happy.

I agree. Don't understand the people who think it's too big? I bet it will be really comfortable.

Well do we have an indicator about the width? I might be willing to deal with/like the controller if the controller is wider so my thumbs don't collide with each other.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
That looks a lot like the Vita's clicky dpad......which is a great thing. I hope it becomes a standard.

Wait till enough peopleople bitch and the redesign it? I have no clue.

I can't be ofhe only one who thinks that looks uncomfortable as hell.
These truly are the worst type of posts. Were you one of those shitting on the Boomerang without holding it? If you start bitching now, we are going to get another DS. Calm down and wait for the final.

An industry source familiar with the new system tells us the photo is the real deal. But bear in mind, it may not represent the final form of the controller. Curiously, it seems to not include a "Share" button, despite that button being described in official Orbis documentation that was shared with us a few weeks ago. I've contacted Sony to see if this is real, and will update if I hear back.

If we assume that the face buttons are the same size as on a DS3. You could use that as an indicator... But you never know.

probably mic, not speakerphone?

those prototype's are always rough, and there are probably many different around. But I like it.

Wow, that is bulky and ugly. It has so much stuff crammed onto it, it looks a very unfocused. The touchpad looks especially useless, and that speaker seems pointless as well. In terms of aesthetics it is a big step back across the board. Those analog sticks are hideous.

Hopefully the final product we see on the 20th is more refined than this.

Some people need to realize that prototypes are not meant to look all spiffy and clean. It is basically a concept of what the controller will be, but the final version will look nice and slick with some refinements.

I actually like that idea of the move stuff being build into one controller.

I have no idea how it would work for games like the Fight though.
